270.0. "Main Street Electrical Parade" by TOPTEN::PLEVA (Ron, from Princeton NJ) Tue Jul 02 1991 14:29

I am planning a visit to the Magic Kingdom in August or September
of '92. I want to schedule the visit to coinside with catching
the "Electric Light Parade" that goes through the park in the evening.

I understand that the parade ceases when the evening hours get reduced
and the park closes at 6PM. When does this happen?

Birnbaum claims that the EL parade runs when the MK is open
until midnight. If you look at note 131.61, you will see that
they will start cutting back on the park hours on August 24th
        this year.

They usually follow the same rough schedule from year to year.
I would expect for them to stop next year's "new version of
the ELP" at about the same time as they stop the ELP this
        year.

If you want to know this year's dates for sure, then I would
recommend calling WDW information at (407)834-4321. This
would allow you to make better plans for next year. Let us
        know what they tell you.

    Hi,

The park closes at 7:00 in the fall. You will miss the Electrical
Parade, but just think of how fast you will get on all the attractions
without waiting in super long lines!

I called WDW information today and got the following info:

The Electric Light Parade will run at 9:00 and 11:00 through
8/24/91 when the MK is open to midnight. Beginning on
8/25/91, the MK closes at 10:00 and the parade will only run
at 9:00. She wasn't too sure when the parade would be
eliminated, but thought it would probably stop after Labor Day
weekend (she only had a schedule through August).

Last week (Thurs?) the Disney Channel did another broadcast of "Disney
Backstage" with the subject matter being the ELP. The host of the show,
Michael YOung, traced the beginnings of the parade and interviewed
people who work with the parade.

I noticed that there is a difference between the ELP in DL and the one
    in WDW.

The Anaheim edition contains Snow White floats and Pinnocchio floats
which I don't recall seeing in Orlando.

The show gives all kinds of info on the technical aspects of the parade
including the battery set ups for the floats and the music "zone"
    techniques used during the parade.

Don't know for certain, but if past performance is any indication, not
only won't the parade be available in Disneyland, but unless that is
Easter week, the park will be closing at 6pm on weekdays.

I just got back from there last week and heard that this is the last
year for the electrical light parade in Florida. I heard they're
supposed to ship it to one of their other parks, and I think someone
mentioned that there's one in Spain now, and that's where it's headed.

You might want to check with WDW to make sure.

On the local Orlando news yesterday morning:

September 14th will be the last day of the Electrical Light
Parade before it moves to Euro-DisneyWorld. A grand
finale will be held on September 13th and 14th accompanied
by the largest, grandest, most spectacular fireworks
           display ever.

Which translates to their special occasion fireworks display
which gets .001% bigger every time they have it (wonders of
marketing). Nevertheless, it is spectacular and worthwhile to
attend and I would recommend attending if you are down there.

Well, it meant re-scheduling our Victoria and Albert's dinner to the
6pm seating on the 13th, but I can't imagine anything better than
V&A's followed by the ELP and fireworks to celebrate our anniversary!
So nice of them to schedule it that way for us :-)!

Our plans keep getting better and better!

My family and I were at WDW for the last performance of the ELP on
Septeber 14. Watched it from across the square from the Main Street
train station, the same place I video taped it about ten years ago. It
was great and I'm sad to see it go. The fireworks were as spectacular
as those they do for the Christmas party (fireworks going off all over
the Magic Kingdom, not just over the Castle).

I'll start another note on "RUMORS" of the replacement for the ELP.

replacement be? Any rumors or behind the scenes knowledge?

It's discusses by Jim Hill in 7.85.

Also if you get Disney News, the current issue has a spread on Spectro
Magic Parade (I think that what it was being called now, I'll check
tonight), it will be composed of fiber optics, high tech light panels,
etc.. No date of it's premiere was mention though.

re. last two

I called CRO last night to confirm my reservations for Saturday.
I asked the cast member if there were any scheduled fireworks for
Oct. 1 at the Magic Kingdom. There aren't any but there is an 8 p.m.
    time for Spectro Magic Parade.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she is correct. If she is, the
parade is also running on Oct. 4 & 5. I'll let you know for sure
when I get back. (Returning to work Oct. 7 - I'll post a note as
    soon as my schedule permits.)

270.19Friday was outstanding!!CGVAX2::HAREWed Sep 18 1991 17:537
I was fortunate enough to attend the parade on Friday the 13th (my
first time seeing it) and it was great, the crowds were unreal though.
I have never seen the place as crazy as it was. We were across from
the store on main street about 30 feet from the circle. People were
lined up about 8 deep but it went very well and the crowd was under
control. Trip update should be out shortly.

Unfortunately they no longer have the Electric Light Parade at WDW but
you can see the new parade and it also is with lights it is called

The Spectromagic Parade - With all the Charecters.

It is a beautiful magical time watching it but I wish they still had
    the ELP.
