249.0. "LATE RESERV. AVAIL. AT WDW RESORTS" by VIRGO::PETRICCA () Mon Feb 25 1991 10:30

I just want to let all know that there seems to be plenty of room at
the WDW resorts this season. About 5 weeks I called to make a
reservation at Caribbean Beach (first time at this resort). The
reservation is for next week, March 6th. I was surprised I was able to
make the reservation immediately. About a week later we wanted to add
an extra night - I was waitlisted for one more night. Then we decided
we wanted an extra room as there are 4 adults and 1 baby. Well, they
could only confirm 1 night out of the four. I took the 1 night and was
waitlisted for the other 3. Then last week, I received notice that the
waitlist was satisfied, so we have two rooms for 4 nights each.

Saturday evening I received a call from WDW reservations asking if we
would be interested in changing our reservation to the Contemporary for
an extra $25/night (we have the $99/room rate at CBR). I said no,
there was too much concrete and we wanted more grass, etc. for taking
the baby out. Well, then they said we could have the Polynesian for
those nights also for an extra $25. I asked them to call me back in 24
hours and we would decide. Well, we decided to keep the CBR because it
is newer, we have never stayed there before, and also to save the
    $25/night.

The interesting thing is the rooms at the Contemporary and Polynesian
usually go for about $200. So there seems to be plenty of room if
anyone wants to make late reservations at these two resorts. I am not
sure what the quoted rate would be if we didn't already have
    reservations at the CBR.

249.1how come they didn't have them two weeks ago!ASABET::C_AQUILIATue Feb 26 1991 11:5014
that is strange as i called them and they were booked till the end of
may for the CBR for five nights in a row. i got a delta package as
delta had alot of the rooms already however i'm a bit dissapointed that
i only have a garden view and in checking out the package deals, i
think i could of done better.

i also have heard that this year was going to be extremely difficult in
getting reservations as with the war people do not want to travel
    outside the USA.

249.2Ask to be waitlisted.VIRGO::PETRICCATue Feb 26 1991 13:3110
You could call your reservation person back and ask to be waitlisted
for the deluxe room at CBR. Chances are you will get it. People
cancel reservations daily as you can get your money back if you cancel
    48 hours before.

Plus they must be trying to move confirmed reservations from the CBR to
the Polynesian and Contemporary (older hotels) at a cost savings to
open up more rooms at the CBR.

249.3We were waitlisted and just got on for our March Trip!PHONE::POIRIERWhen will we ever learn....Tue Feb 26 1991 14:076
We were booked for 6 nights at the Carribean Beach. Mid January we
decided to extend our trip 2 more nights. When I called they send they
couldn't add to CBR but we could stay at one of their many other hotels
for those two nights. We booked the Disney Inn for two nights and got
on the wait list for the same two nights at the CBR. Last week we got
thw two nights at the CBR. So wait list yourself!! It's worth it!

Last Friday, I needed 6 nights at the CBR for the week of March 3.
They had only three of the six nights available. I checked back with
them this morning, and I now have all six nights reserved.

....and this is during spring break for many colleges!
249.5Our Additions were made for Easter Week!PHONE::POIRIERWhen will we ever learn....Tue Feb 26 1991 15:007
Perhaps Disney has over-built to the point where year-in-advance
reservations are no longer necessary. that's ok with me. Or maybe
it's just a sign of these shakey times - nobody is willing to travel,
    even to Disney World?!?

Our additions to our reservations are for the week before Easter -
Prime Season - I'm sure glad we could extend our vacation.

    Rep to <<< Note 249.0 by VIRGO::PETRICCA >>>

Back in late January I called CRO and tried to get 7 nights at the CBR
for my Father who didn't take my advice and reserve back in Sep/Oct.
For Febuary and March all the had was 4 night max in either month and
be waitlisted or go to Disney Inn for $175 or COntemporary at $170
compared to $75-$99 at the CBR. Needly to say my Father will stay off
site if he decides to visit.

As to why it might seem like there is alot available is that I was told
by the person on the phone that they seemed to be getting a lot of
cancelation than normal due to panic/$$'s of flying at the time.
However now that the Gulf thing appears to be going better who know.
My neighbor is going to CBR during April vacation and is paying $329 to
fly from Manchester, sure hope it's less next year ;^(.

249.7GOOD DEALS FOR EXTENDED STAYSGLDOA::JAKUBOWSKIFri Mar 08 1991 10:5724
I stayed at the Polynesian in December, 1990, and there was a letter in
the room saying that if you wished to extend your stay another night,
you could for $75.00. What a deal -- I would have extended if the
flight and the rest of the party was agreeable. Since I went on one on
those Big Red Boat and Disney packages, the Poly was included. I'm not
sure how much it would have been at the time without the package deal.

I've to WDW 7 times (yep I'm hooked) and sometimes there is a sign
saying accommodations available. Once it was even after I had called
at least 6 months ahead trying to get reservations and couldn't. I've
found that both WDW and Disneyland tend to run on Aloha Time-which is
to say even if they claim they will open the gates at 9, if its sunny
they may open at 8. Likewise, if everyone is having a good time,
sometimes they stay open up to 2 hours later than they said they would
when you call a day ahead. It makes planning somewhat difficult, but
it is great if your there. The fool I am, I slways call and ask their
hours anyway! So, perhaps they run their reservations the same way.
Some companies (like airlines) save some spots till the last minute to
book just in case Bob Hope is coming or something. The waiting list
    sounds like a great idea.

    Bye,
