236.0. "WDW/Orlando Exercise Facilities" by TIGEMS::ELKINS () Wed Jan 02 1991 14:56

    I would like to know if there are any Gyms in the Disneyworld area?
    Maybe a Gold's Gym? Do any of the local hotels have health spa/weight
    rooms?  What are they like?

    I'm looking for free weight equipment, some Nautilus would be great,
    lap pool, raquetball and aerobics.

    Thanks!! I'm going to Orlando in March and don't want to stop my
    workout program while on vacation.

236.1A nice room at the InnEXIT26::SNODGRASSWed Jan 02 1991 15:4411

    Tracy,

    When we stayed at the Disney Inn this summer of the rear pool next to
    the snack bar they had free weights, two cycles, six Nautilus, and a
    treadmill. Ican't remember if they had a climber or not. The Inn seemed
    a little more athleticly inclined than the Poly, but that might be my
    impression.

236.2exercise at disneyKSTREL::EFRANKWed Aug 21 1991 13:1812
Hi there,

Friends of ours are going with us to disney and want to know where they can
do exercise (other than walking) (i.e. lifecycle, aerobics...etc) We are all
staying at the Port Orleans but are not sure of the exercise facilities there.
Personally, I think the walking is enough but these folks are religious about
their fitness...

thanks,
eric
236.3SALEM::PAGLIARULO_GReality is a cosmic hunchWed Aug 21 1991 13:363
    I believe that there's a full gym in the Contemporary.

    George
236.4Yup, the Contemporary has a gymALLVAX::STAATS1-800Wed Aug 21 1991 14:588
One of the reasons I'm staying in the contemporary (ok it's a real
small reason :-) is that it contains a full gym with Nautalis, Lifecycles
and other equipment.

I've heard there Carribean Beach has some exercise equiptment as well,
but I'm not positive.

236.5CBR FitnessVISUAL::SCOPAI'd rather be in OrlandoWed Aug 21 1991 15:4110
    Not much at the CBR that I know of. Yeah you can rent a bike but that's
    it. As a runner who needs his miles every day I found myself running
    around Barefoot Lagoon while down there last year. It's not a bad run
    if you are an early bird....less crowds and less heat.

    I think it's a 1/2 mile for one loop but don't quote me. Nothing more
    invigorating that doing 5K in the morning and then jumping into the
    pool.

    More Exercise Info...

    I was looking throuh the "official" guide to Walt Disney World
    and found the following (besides the 'Olympia Health Club' in the
    Contemporary)...

    Grand Floridaian - St. John's is the hotel's health club, offering
    an exercise room wth state-of-the-art equipment, steamrooms, locker
    facilities, and a massage room.

    Yacht and Beach Club - The SHip Shape Health Club is located in the
    central area between the two resorts, and features exercise machines,
    aerobics classes, sauna, spa, steamroom and massage rooms.

    Swan - A small health club, offering exercise equipment and aerobics
    classes, is located near the pool.

    Dolphin - A branch of Body by Jake (run by telivision fitness guru Jake
    Steinefeld) is located near the pool. State-of-the-art equipment
    is available, as are personal trainers. There are aerobics classes
    (including water aerobics), a sauna, steamroom, and whirlpool.

    Carribean Beach - the 1.4 mile promenade around the lake is perfect
    for a morning jog.

    Fort Wilderness - The Fort Wilderness Exercise Trail 2.3 mile jogging
    course.

    Also, the Disney Inn has an exercise room. Out by the back pool near
    the snack stand.

236.8St. John's Healthclub at the GFUSMFG::RMATTIOLIFri Aug 23 1991 15:518
    I used the St. John's Healthclub at the Grand Floridian during our
    stay in April. The club has some free weights as well as Nautilus
    and Lifecycles. I believe they also had Treadmills. It is not a
    big club but has enough equipment to keep one in shape.
    Also the Lifecycles were set up by the windows facing the gigantic
    pool. Oh, the cost was $10 for the week.

236.9Anyone know FOR SURE?VISUAL::SCOPAI'd rather be in OrlandoMon Aug 26 1991 13:028
    Are exercise facilities available to on-site guests?

    Do you have to be a guest at a resort to be allowed to use their
    facilities?

    For instance, can a CBR guest use the GF facilities?

236.10Yacht & Beach ClubFDCV07::CAMPBELLFri Sep 06 1991 11:515
    When we came out of the Yachtsman Steakhouse in the Yacht Club after
    dinner last weekend, we noticed the Exercise Room with LOADS!!! of
    new equipment. Big window to look out of while exercising, view is
    of Stormalong Bay pool. Looked nice.

236.11MASSAGES, anyone ?RAVEN1::JBLAIRThu Mar 12 1992 17:158
  Has anyone availed themselves of the massages advertised by some of
the Health Clubs within the resorts? My husband and I will be at the
YACHT CLUB and I was curious about the cost of one and if it was
worth it. We're going for the 'vacation of decadence', you know,
eating too much, drinking too much, etc. and want to make sure we
don't miss out on anything! :-).
