Claude,
Sorry to hear of your transition state. When I got back from my
vacation to the World I found myself in the same boat!
Wanted to say a big *THANKS* to you Claude! Both you and Len have
done an excellent job of moderating this conference.
Of all the conferences I read, *this* is the best moderated one.
Best wishes, hope we both find new postions.

I agree with the previous replies, this is the BEST

| Here's hoping that Len and Claude secure jobs real fast. Last year both
Len and Claude asked me to help them moderate this conference and since
they run a tight conference I just filled in when necessary.
Over the last 6 months my job has evolved to the point that it is
becoming more and more difficult to find time to moderate this
conference.
Depending upon the fortunes of these two guys we may be looking for a
new home for this conference and for an additional moderator or two to
help keep the conference in the shape that Len and CLaude have made it.
For now I'm hoping that Len and Claude find something and business can
continue as usual.
This conference has been good to all us us and Len and Claude are
directly responsible. Let's hope that some of that Disney magic comes

conference must leave SENIOR when I do. If I can take it with me to my

think Notes would run on the VT180 I have at home)
Any offers for a new home are appreciated. I'll deal with it when I
return from WDW on 12/3.
In the mean time, the conference is open. Mike will be on his own

return.
We'll try to give everyone fair notice before any moves are made.

Beaty and the Beast scheduled for Dec '91, followed by Alladin in Dec

mentioned Hansel and Gretel and a original story among some others.

Hi All,
Well as you can see, Dec 28th has come and gone, What Does that mean?
Well for starters I still haven't found a job, and have decided to
declined TFSO, Why? because 1) I'm in the middle of one interview
loop, and 2) on Thursday 27th, notified one hiring manager I was
interested in working in Mass (if that is what it'll take) and will be
in another interview loop in the coming days, and 3) also expect to
hear from the DEC-FLEX folks on my application in the coming weeks.
(for those who don't know DEC-FLEX, is Transition's effort to replace
outside Contract workers with real DEC employees, to do temporary work)
So it was a hard decision, some of my fellow co-workers found jobs just
prior to last Friday, others are now gone (TFSO'd), and others like
myself who are in the middle of interviews decided to hang in and hope
for the best. My group was hit especially hard, The TRG group merged
with the NPO group in Maynard and out of some 750-800 people some 220
got their Transition papers (a good percentage took TFSO).
Well hopefully in the next 2 weeks, I'll hear something definite, and
will have a new node due to either 1, 2, or 3 happening above.
Otherwise the WEDOIT cluster is moving to Maynard end of February?.
Bye for now,
Claude
PS this bald head needs his MM ears, it's cold outside ;^).

Hi all,
Well as you can see I now have a new node, unfortunately it wasn't due
to either #1 or 2 above, those jobs ended up being placed on hold, so
it option #3 for me. I'll be DEC-Flexing for a while. For the
time being starting next week I'll be noting late at night from home,
if I note at all, so I won't be moderating this conference for a while
(be nice to Len, Mike and Ruth ok).

234.20 | Still here and breathing a little easier | SALEM::BERUBE_C | Claude, G. | Tue Feb 26 1991 19:22 | 27 |
| Hi all,
Today I attended a group meeting with DEC-Flex management, and DEC-Flex
is now a separate business entity from Transition. This means for
those in DEC-Flex, that they can now consider that they have a
permanent job doing temporary work for DEC, and are no longer to be
considered in Transition.
What does that mean for me is I can start to breath a little better.
We are still allowed to look for permanent full time job's but will
have to abides by the rules for non-transition folks. So for the time
being I think I'll stay in DEC-Flex until I see a real good job match
on the tube.
For now I'll be noting either early in the morning when I first get in,
during lunch, or late at night from home, since the contract I'm
currently doing up in Contoocook NH (DOO) working on the Idle Asset
program, has me rather busy that I can't access my account that often,
other than to get check mail etc.

| Guess it's time I update this note since I'm the one that started it.
One of the best things to happen to me upon returning back to work from
that wonderful 9 days at WDW was being told that I would be starting a
new contract on May 11th for New Product process Engineering (CSS) in
Salem doing basicly my old job of sorts that I was doing prior to
writing .0, after nearly a year and a half. Turns out the group is
losing a couple to SERP and another to a job change, so it look
promising that I could be there for a while.
So for any of you Salemites or visitors, if you wish to stop by my new
location is in Core A directly across the Salem Life Center at pole
D13.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fellow Disney Noters,
'''''''
This Friday November the 13th, will be my last day at work, my group
HEP (Human Enterprise Program, yet another name change for the old
DEC-FLEX group) had performed a 25% reduction in force this past Monday
and I it doesn't look like I'll be able to find something permanent
within Digital and after 19 1/2 years at DEC, it's now time to move on
to hopefully better and brighter horizons, but as of now I haven't a
clue.
It's hard to express the feelings I have right now, since for the past
4 year's since the Argonaut program was canceled, it seems like my life
here at Digital has been in a constant state of transition. Whereby I
was constantly having to justify my existence in these trying and
political times at Digital (believe me the political process here at
DEC is alive and well).
Things I won't miss I've eluded to in the above paragraph.
The things I'll miss the most though are the faces I'll never be able
to meet and connect with Nodename::Accounts of all those I've conversed
with over the years either over the phone, in VAXMail or in VAXnotes.
Especially those here in Disney.Note. Believe me when I say it's been
a pleasure moderating this conference, I've made new friends as well as
met some of them at the get together's. You all have been great to
deal with and no one has ever given me a hard time concerning my
moderation, conference policies, etc..
Even though I've contributed quite a lot of my own secret tips/hints
etc. (though maybe too much ;^)), It's also has been a learning
experience for me as well (reading trip reports etc.), that I'm sure
I'll make good use of them should I be fortunate enough to visit our
favorite place on earth. Boy am I gald I overspent my vacation budget
last April, and truely enjoyed myself (family as well), my only regret
was never having been Splashinated.
Thank you all for those Great Disney memories.

234.30 | Good Luck Claude | AUDIBL::SCOPA | I'd rather be in Orlando | Thu Nov 12 1992 12:16 | 40 |
| Well, let me be the first.
About 3 years ago Claude and Len asked me to consider becoming one of
the moderators of this file. Over the last three years I've had a lot
of enjoyment in doing so and have established a strong relationship
with many of you.
Bashing with two mods down in Orlando this past Summer was a blast and
would have only been topped if Ruth, Len, and Claude were there.
Claude and I talk almost every day and our communications over the last
few years has established a special bond between the two of us. This
bond enabled us to bash one another in this file and over the network.
I'm gonna miss this guy not just because he's a moderator and an active
contributor to this conference but because he is also a friend of
mine...a friend who is leaving the company. His departure is our loss
too.
I want to be the first to thank Claude for all his moderator and noter
contributions to this file and to wish him the best of luck. After
almost 20 years in DEC I'm sure it will seem quite odd and somehow not
right for him to pass in his badge tomorrow. His "special place" for
his badge will no longer be neccessary....be it a pocket, a bureau, or
dashboard.
Claude and his "place" in this conference will always be remembered by
this moderator and I realized this morning that when Claude leaves DEC
for the final time a part of me will be leaving DEC along with him.
I hope our paths cross again. I'm a much richer person for having known
Claude.
Claude my friend.....here's hoping you have a very Mickey life and you
be sure to let me know when you head down to Orlando so I can have my
Brazillian buddies welcome you.
Take care.

believe that my title is true. It was only when I became a
moderator that I started to see the amount of work that Claude

order - the rapid refiling of entries to make them easier to find,
the soul-searching that goes on over 'questionable' notes, the
system maintenance which gives us faster response - the list is
endless, and I know that we remaining mods will be hard pressed to
fill the gap.

| I've been having a hard time writing this note. I want to make sure I
get it in in time for Claude to see it, but I don't want it to sound
like a eulogy.
I started this conference back in February 1989. I was planning a trip
to WDW in November of that year, and was hoping to get a few tips.
There was a note in the HOLIDAY_TRAVEL conference about Disney World.
Some one there, (I guess it must have been Tom Butler), suggested that
Disney needed its own conference. I had the system resources, and
thought it would be fun so I did it.
I didn't think it would be too big a deal, since in three years after
the base note in HOLIDAY_TRAVEL was written there were only 125
replies. Boy was I wrong. In the first weekend the file was in
existence there were over 300 entries. I think about half of them were
from Claude.
I had recruited a guy I worked with who was an annual WDW visitor to be
co-moderator. To this day I don't think he has even looked in the
file. It wasn't long before I decided that Claude would be a better
choice.
My original vision for the conference was to be very unstructured. My
theory was, and to a large degree still is, "moderation in moderation".
It was Claude who built the structure by entering place holders for all
the major topics. Over the years I haven gotten many, many compliments
on how "tight" the conference is, and how easy it is to find
information. This is because of the structure Claude built that makes
it easy for all the moderators to redirect the odd stray note to the
correct topic. It is a testament to him that after almost four years
there are only about 325 topics. I just hope we can keep it up.
Claude, you've been a helper and a friend. I'll miss you. And yes,
I'm still working on those last three trip reports.

| OK who held the wake without inviting the Guest of Honor ;^)
re: .30-40
Well I just couldn't leave the file without one last reply to some of
these responses now couldn't I ;^)

Gee thanks Mike for reminding Len and Me of our BIGGEST MISTAKE YET!!!

God Mike You didn't keep any of those now did you? We could get in
trouble for some of those.
> I'm gonna miss this guy .....
Uh Mike ain't I coming over you house next week to watch some videos?

In a way it's also a relief.

We will, your house next week, and even though I'll probably be taking
some of my DCU business elsewhere, the closest office to Goffstown is
MKO1.
> Claude my friend.....here's hoping you have a very Mickey life and you

Hmm, If things work out right I could be down there in February, that's
Snowbird season not Latin American season.

Your too kind, I really haven't done that much lately (seems like Mike
or Len has done more).
A little history lesson, back when the file was started by Len in '89
my group was still in shock of the Argonaut cancellation and I had a
lot of free time (not to many projects coming my groups way) having a
VAX II/GPX running Decwindows helped a lot that once I got those early
topic started, and once I became busy toward the summer of '89, windows
allowed me to monitor things while I was busy doing other stuff in
other windows.
As to the directory listings, that's a DCL batch job which probably
took about a weeks worth of coding and debugging. Vacation.com on the
other hand took a lot longer, I put my sole in to that one.
> I deeply regret that we've never met in person, but from the

So do I Mike, wish now I had gone to the bash, but I had a anniversary
promise to keep, and you know what happens if you don't keep one of
those now don't you? ;^)

Hmm with my warped sense of humor let's see now how about
'Edward Scissorhands meets the Alien'
or
'MM as the pilot of a star cruiser on the loose at Universal
Studios?
or....
> Claude, as I said a week ago "Say it ain't so...." ;^)
'fraid so John.
> You will be missed by me in this and the Scouting Conference. I can
> only hope that you will be back eventually. As Harry Chapin put it

Hmmm, I'm a readonly noter of Scouting, even though Greg and I are
heavy into Scouting (Greg a Star soon to be a Life Scout, and hopefully
if things go right we'll be at National this summer) I don't think I've
ever entered a note there. The conferences that I remember
contributing over the years besides Disney of course was, SEDT,
RAINBOW, DCU, RV, NH, HOLIDAY_TRAVEL, PAN, TCL, DIGITAL (when I felt
compelled), and some product related ones like NAUTILUS etc.
BTW fellow Disney Noter Steve Young and I are associated with the same
troop NH Troop 99 in Goffstown so there another one that by filling
Disney noters on the going on's of Claude The Mod.

Oh sure take all the credit now why don't you? ;^)

Take a look at HOLIDAY_TRAVEL_V1 note 6, I wanted to make sure there
was some sense of structure to things versus the ramblings of thoughts
found in the old Holiday travel.

Yeah well if I had my way it'll only be about 150 notes today ;^). I
have to agree I think we came to a happy medium though.
> Claude, you've been a helper and a friend.
and so have you...
> I'll miss you.
likewise
> And yes, I'm still working on those last three trip reports.
Promises Promises Len, I'll believe when Scopa show me the extracts.
OK enough of this foolishness, In All Seriousness,
Len, Mike S, Ruth, Jim, and last but not least Mike B., you've all been
the greatest bunch of folk's I've ever had the pleasure of working
with, you've helped me greatly without your never knowing how
much
...will the last moderator left please turn off the lights....(sorry
couldn't help myself ;^()
To all those who have sent me mail, replied here (last time and now)
thanks your for thought's and words of encouragement, they are deeply
appreciated and I'll cherish them forever.
To those of you who I left out in this reply, don't fret I've heard you
and will remember. As I said in .30 the thing I'll miss most is not
being able to place a face to those of you I've conversed with over the
years like Sean Rilley, Skip Williams, Linda Gibson, Steve Owen, Joel
Tomyl etc. (If I mispelled your name or didn't mention it, don't fret
that are just to many people name, and I have many memories of the side
mailings, phonecalls for help etc to forget, hey I'm pressed for time
if you know what I mean?) Hey at least I got to met the infamous
Robespierre (Jim Hill)
Well that's it for now, I'm sure I've forgotten someone/something, but
as I said I'm pressed for time so Bye for Now....
Claude
Your Faithfull Ex Disney Co-Mod
Ps #1 I've extracted this whole 234.* string, and Mike has promised to
give me any that are entered after this one, so don't worry I'll get to
see them.
PS #2 You haven't heard the last of Claude The Mod.........

Tho we've never met -- reading your goodbye brought sincere sadness.
Amazing how familiar people feel with each other thru these Disney notes
files. This is a tribute, of course, to you and all your hard work
and quite obvious caring.
Everyone else has already said it all to you -- we double their
sentiments and add our own
THANKS CLAUDE
Good luck to you!!! We hope we haven't heard the last from you!!

| It came as quite a surprise to me to return from the World and find that you
were already gone and I hadn't had a chance to say good-bye and good luck. (or
to stump you with a new piece of trivia that I picked up on my trip)
It's true that I'll probably be running into you at Scout meetings and such, but
it won't be the same as seeing your name as I get my daily Disney fix in the
Notes file.
Thanks for all of the work you have put in to make this the best source of
information on Disney available.
Good Luck in your future projects,
Steve

| I realize that Claude is not here to read this but I was not able to
read any Disney Notes last week.
I was able to talk with Claude offline on Friday and of course wished
him well. This is the second time Claude and I have crossed paths. I
worked with him in Salem for 5 years back a while ago and then about 1 1/2
years ago, discovered him here in this notesfile.
I appreciate all the work he's done here in this notesfile and will
miss him greatly.
But, I'll make sure to invite him to the next get-together!

234.48 | Claude: Alive and Well | AUDIBL::SCOPA | I'd rather be in Orlando | Thu Nov 19 1992 10:49 | 12 |
| Well gang I thought I'd let you know that Claude is in pretty good
spirits. He spent about 6 hours at my house yesterday watching tapes
and helping me install a new kitchen counter. He works cheap (2 diet
Cokes).
He was very interested in seeing the infamous HDD bash and footage of
Splash Mountain.
He sends his best and intends to secure a job ASAP.

| Well, now we know. Disney Notes is not a core activity of the company,
so I'm joining Claude as an ex-moderator. I go Friday, so if any
Disneyholic is in the Warrington area, they're welcome to join me in a
departing drink.
I'll keep in touch through the remaining mods, who have become close
friends, letting you know of my visits to the World, and hopefully I'll
get to meet more of the names that have become so familiar over the
years.
Mike (T-5)
p.s. Not a Trivia question, but what does TFSO stand for? Here in the
UK, we are still being "Rightsized"!

| I too will be leaving the company on Friday.
To echo something Mike Batty said in some private mail, it's a sad
commentary on the state of the company when I think that the thing I'll
miss most after 11+ years is the Disney notes conference.
Len.
P.S. If any one is planning on visiting WDW and plans to tour the
Vacation Club, contact me for a referral card. At this point I could
use the fifty Dis-bucks I'd get if you take the tour.
The other mods will know how to reach me.

234.51 | Now it's time to say good bye to all our company... | LJOHUB::GOLDBERG | Len, I Own a Piece of the Magic | Fri Dec 11 1992 11:54 | 7 |
| I guess this is it. I just spoke to Mike Batty and we're both feeling a little
numb. It's been 18 years for him and over 11 for me. The Disney conference
has been the best thing about the past four years.
I hope I'll run into you on Main Street someday.
Len.

234.52 | Mods from the Past | CUPMK::SCOPA | | Wed Feb 17 1993 15:10 | 24 |
| Within the last 24 hours some of the mods have heard from old friends
Mike Batty and Claude Berube.
Mike is now a production manager at a small electronics firm. Not bad,
got a pretty handsome severance check from DEC and finds a job in no
time.
Mike doesn't expect to be visiting Orlando this Summer...it's not the
money it's the time...but intends on making a Christmas visit.
Last I heard about Len Goldberg he was looking into a job as a sales
manager for some large computer store chain (COMP USA?) in Framingham,
Mass.
Claude hasn't found anything yet and he tells me that his wife is
suggesting that they take a mini-trip to WDW to let him unwind. Claude
is a staunch 5 yr. man so he is balking at going before '97.
They all say. "Hi!" and miss this notesfile. Well, we miss them too as
it just hasn't been the same without them.
By the way, has anyone heard or seen Jim Hill?
Mike

234.53 | Moving on | CUPMK::JETTE | | Thu Nov 11 1993 13:16 | 17 |
| Hello to all,
I have finally had a moment to write this note!
I will be passing on my mouse ears as a moderator of this notesfile.
As of Monday I start a new job here at Digital which will demand much
more of my time.
I will continue to participate in the conference although not as often
as I'd like to.
Talk with you all soon,

234.54 | Now it's time to say goodbye to all our company | WILLEE::GIBSON | | Wed Mar 01 1995 10:16 | 32 |
| As has happened frequently in recent months and years, this mod is being
TFSO'd. My last day at Digital is Friday, March 3, meaning that I will have
been with the company just under 11 years. This was not a surprise and I am not
upset at leaving. In recent months it seemed that it was just time to go. As
others have said before me, you know the job situation is bad if the thing that
will be missed most is the Disney notefile.
I have enjoyed meeting all of you, whether it was only electronically or
personally as well. This is an easy conference to moderate. With very rare
exceptions, participants are polite and willing to abide by the conference
guidelines. I learned a lot from you. We were able to do and see things at
WDW that would have been totally unknown to us except for the information
here.
This file is also a small place of calm in the middle of the turmoil of Digital
today. When the stress gets intolerable, the file is always here to
provide a little relief from the tension. There is always the latest quiz
question, someone needing a pointer, a trip report, something to provide a
breather. It's a bit of Walt's perfect world.
As far as future trips are concerned, there is a possibility that I will be
at Port Orleans from July 14 to 23. The American Spaniel Club summer national
competition is being held in Orlando this year. This will be the first July
in many years that will not be totally filled with year-end responsibilities,
so it would be a good time to go. If anyone else will be there at that time,
drop a line to [email protected]. Mybe we could meet and take a ride on the
TZTOT!
Goodbye and good luck to all of you. I will miss you.
Linda

234.55 | Kudos to Linda G. | WREATH::SCOPA | | Wed Mar 01 1995 10:39 | 31 |
| On behalf of the rest of the Disney mods I'd like to thank Linda for
all her help over the last few years. She certainly carried out all her
moderator duties exceptionally well and I'm gonna miss her daily
contributions to this note conference...as well as those phone
conversations and office visits.
Linda's insight to this culture we know as Disney added so much to this
conference that I cannot begin to describe how many people she has
helped (including yours truly) when it came to planning a trip,
learning about specials at the Disney Store, knowing what restaurants
to AVOID in Orlando, and making the best of everything Disney.
Linda joins our other ex-mods out there in cyberspace and here's hoping
that Linda keeps in touch with her Disney family who will continue to
frequent this file.
There are many read-only noters out there who may have benefited from
Linda's contribution to this file. If I were one of those who gained
from her knowledge I'd drop her a message and say thank you. For others
who would like to say thank you in here I will set this note so you can
do just that.
Thank you Linda and I know I'll be seeing you on AOL and look forward
to reading your trip report upon your return.
And maybe...just maybe we'll meet for a Dole Whip at Aloha Isle in '97.
Good luck,
Mike

good-bye. TFSO has also caught up with me, and Friday will also be my

the Disney channel at home!
Good luck to all of you!

Bill Abrams: You've won your first Disney trivia quiz contest. What are you
going to do now?
"I'm going to leave Digital and then go to Disneyworld!"
Yes, January 26 will be my last day. I have chosen to join a (very) small
consulting firm and try to make a name for myself beyond Digital. This
conference, and everyone who plays in this playground, will be one of the
things about Digital I will miss the most. It is the closest community
of people who are far away from each other!
I will join the other ex-moderators in cyberspace. Drop me a note at
[email protected]
to chat, or ask questions...I will still be going to WDW Feburary 3.
I may send a trip report your way, (Watch your email, Mike),
and look for me in rec.arts.disney.* if you are on the internet.
My new goal is to get rich doing consulting, buy my Vacation Club membership,
and an annual pass every year.
The real tragedy is that I'll have a lot more time on my hands. I might
have been able to win another quiz!
Copy me on your plans for the 25th anniversary. I just may be able to be
on the porch before the Hoop-de-Doo in July '97. I suspect that Spaceship
Earth really contains a giant magnet which draws those of us who are tuned
to it back to Orlando again and again and again.
