213.1 | WONDERFUL!!!!! | ROMCSA::CARBONI | | Mon Jul 23 1990 12:42 | 27 |
| Hello Hans,
I've been to America last year in September with my boyfriend
and I saw many many wonderful places, but Disneyland and the Universal
Studios are two wonderful places, you're right: you must visit them.
I slept in the Disneyland Hotel, it's a wonderful hotel.
We went there from LA by car, but I don't remember what the
way to get to Anaheim was.
So, I'm writing to tell you that you must absolutely watch the
M. Jackson film and you must absolutely go to the space games: they are
two things you could never forget all your life.
Besides, you must go to the Universal Studios to see the sqare of the
"Back to the future III" and the other wonderful things, such the
flood, etc.
I do hope you'll have a WONDERUFL WONDERFUL WONDERFUL holiday.
Please, when you come back, let me know!!!!!!!
Have a good time.
Carla.

| Hi Carla, thank you for your reply.
Nice to see that you are so enthusiastic about your trip to Disneyland
and Universal Studios.
We are staying at the Hyatt Wilshire Hotel, Wilshire Blvd LA.
After we've made a roundtrip to Las Vegas, San Fransisco and back to
LA, we plan to visit DL.
I'll make sure that when we've returned to Holland I will submit a
tripreport to this note. I'm quit sure that, when you read it, so you will remember your own trip.
Bye!
Hans

| Hello again Hans,
I've asked for the street to my boyfriend and he told me that from LA,
you must run the "101" till Anaheim.
Have a nice trip again and...
I'm waiting for a tripreport when you come back.

| RE: .3
Well, that is almost correct.
To get to Disneyland from greater downtown LA/Westwood you take the
Hollywood Freeway (US 101) southeast to the Golden State Freeway (I-5)
south to the Harbor Blvd exit in Anaheim (approximately 45 miles), exit
off to your right and there you are.
US 101 terminates at I-5 when you are heading southeast on 101, so it
would *seem* as though you took it all the way to Disneyland. The only
problem is LA has multiple freeway interchanges (called "mousetraps")
in which 2, 3, or sometimes 4 freeways will meet. If you do not know
which freeway you want to switch to you could easily wind up going the
wrong direction!

| Still not quite correct. If you are going from the Wilshire Hyatt
(they probably have a tourbus available), you take Western Blvd, south
to the Santa Monica Fwy (10). Take 10 to the 5, and into Anaheim.
Hans, I have no idea how far Holland is from the Hague, but I will be
at the WorldCon (Science Fiction convention) the end of August, working
for the Phoenix bid. If you (or anyone else reading this) is
attending, let me know via:
SWAM1::STERN_TO
Tom Stern @lao
or SWACUS::STERN
and I'll try to remember to bring along a map of the area (Until about
a year ago, our office was about 1.5 miles away from the hotel you'll
be at).

| RE: .5
OK, OK...so I got turned around and was on the other side of Wilshire.
Scheezzees! I qualified it enough, I *thought*! My point was that 101
is a "spur/connector" freeway and that you use it to get to I-5, that's
all. Let's not confuse the out of towners with a million variants of
"here's how to get there fastest *my way*" (I can think of a dozen off
the top of my head and I'm certain everyone else can as well)...all they
need know is to take I-5 south to Harbor Blvd.
Besides...all bets are off if they venture out during rush hour anyway!
I sit corrected, :-(
David.
