185.0. "Tour Guide Service?" by USCTR2::TOMYL (Joel R. Tomyl DTN 297-3188) Fri Apr 20 1990 09:49

    I would like to know your feelings on this. While I was on vacation
    last October, I played tour guide for several friends. While we toured
    the parks, I provided information about the operation of the parks,
    best times for different activities, what happens backstage, Disney
    stories and trivia, and other insider information.

    My question is this: Would you be willing to pay for a tour guide who
    knew the traffic patterns, best way to approach the parks, general
    information, and would accompany only you or your family? Why or why
    not? If yes, how much would you be willing to pay for what kind of
    time frame? (ie $10/hour, $100 for a day)

    Interested in what you have to say.

185.1I'd pay for half a dayGEMINI::GIBSONFri Apr 20 1990 11:089
    I would be willing to pay for half a day just to get the lay of
    the land. It would save having to read a book and a map at the same
    time, plus blocking other people's way while doing this. When we
    travel we usually take a guided tour the first day, why should
    Disney be any different? I inquired about guided tours of the MK,
    but was told they are not held every day. Are they worth the price
    Diseny charges?

185.2Best bet: FirsttimersCOEM::SCOPAMAJORFri Apr 20 1990 12:0014
    Joel,

    I remember my very first time in WDW in 1975 and about midway through
    my stay I was curious about all that stuff. Now I'm not. I think those
    people on their first visit would find a need for that information.

    As far as price goes that's a toughie. I think an hourly rate of $10 an
    hour may be high for some and resonable for others, depending upon how
    anxious they would be to learn all this stuff.

    Again, I don't know how many people would go for it....first-timers
    would be your best bet.

185.3Good Idea!RVAX::SKERRYFri Apr 20 1990 13:0214
    Joel,

    I think it is a terrific idea. First timers would benefit the
    most from this service, but if a tour guide also meant you could
    get in a side door ahead of the lines, people with a limited
    amount of time at WDW would also benefit.

    I would be willing to pay $10.00 an hour for this service. Have
    you also considered a slightly lower fee if someone hires the
    guide for a full day or a half day or even for several days?

    Go for it!

185.4Maybe more of an Escort than Tour GuideUSCTR2::TOMYLJoel R. Tomyl DTN 297-3188Fri Apr 20 1990 17:275
    Maybe instead of calling it a tour guide service, it would be an ESCORT
    service. Much of the information would be about the different concepts
    behind the area, pavillion, etc.

185.5Escort, Tour Guide, WDW Junkie...same thing...COOKIE::SEAGLEDisneyland junkie!Fri Apr 20 1990 18:039
    C'mon, Joel, you're not fooling anyone you know! You just want to
    position yourself in such a way that others will pay for your
    Disney addiction!

                        8-)
