It seems as though there are many noters who are making trips to our favorite spot on Earth...yet only a small percentage are returning and filing a trip report. Trip reports are helpful, entertaining, can spark a memory, and can also influence our haste into returning. They also give you a chance to share your vacation with other Disneyholics. Those who compile a trip report can also gain from reviewing it to help them plan for their next trip. For these reasons all noters should try and file a report once they return. Please note that we are not looking for highly detailed minute- by-minute account of your trip. Even just a paragraph or two which would describe what you did, what you liked, didn't like, what you would do differently next time, etc. is fine. Also, what tips from this conference paid off plus any new info you can add to the conference should also be considered in your trip report. Here are some guidelines, hints, and ideas to make it easier for everyone to put together a trip report. Remember, these are just suggestions. Plan and Organize Before you even leave think about how your days will be orga- nized and when the best time will be for you to jot down some notes of the day's events. o Morning - At breakfast you could recall the previous day's events. o Evening - Just before turning in you could spend about 15 minutes jotting down notes on what you did. o If possible take a small pad or notebook with you to jot down some notes. This will help you remember details later on. When you return you can add to the notes. No need to write a book on your vacation. Use the pad at night or in the morning (at breakfast). Customized Outline If you can design an easy outline to use you'll find it very easy to jot down your notes when you have the time to do so. By putting together such an outline you may find yourself saving time later on. Maybe you could organize you thoughts so that each time you sit down to recap the day's events you would be looking at something like this: o Breakfast - Where? What? Cost? o Park-Attraction-Impressions o Snack- Where? What? Cost? o Park-Attraction-Impressions o Lunch- Where? What? Cost? o Park-Attraction-Impressions o Snack-Where? What? Cost? o Park-Attraction-Impressions o Dinner- Where? What? Cost? o Park-Attraction-Impressions It's best to devise your own outline. Using the example above you could expand it when you return. Here's an example: o TMK - Jungle Cruise - Guide was funny o Snack - Dole Whip o TMK - Mickey's Birthday Land - Kids loved it...wouldn't leave o Lunch- Gepetto's in Fantasyland Burgers/Fries $5.00 o EPCOT - Captain EO - Still can't get over the 3-D o EPCOT - Living Seas - Awesome o EPCOT - The American Adventure - Brought a tear to my eye o Dinner- Hoop-Dee-Doo - Ribs, Chicken, etc. - $120 for 4 o MGM - Great Movie Ride - Real entertaining o MGM - Indiana Jones Adventure - good but short This would be an outline from a particular day. On the way home (on the plane, car, train, etc) you could add a bit so it's not like you're faced with writing so much when you finally get a chance to enter your report in the conference. Entering the Report There's always going to be certain information everyone is interested in. This information may be best served up front in your trip report. Cost is an optional bit of information. You could preface your report with the following outline: Transportation & Cost: Transportation Review: Good? Bad? Recommended? Time of Stay: How long did you stay? Hotel & Cost: Name of hotel Hotel Review: Your impression. Recommended? Put your trip report together offline (out of the conference) and then when it's ready insert it in the trip report note. Remember these are hints to help everyone in putting together their reports. Some people can rely on their memories for such puposes. Others need things like notes. Everyone is encouraged to add their own hints to this note so more and more trip reports get entered. Be a good noter and tell us all about your trip. (The ideas and hints were compiled by your moderators Len and Claude as well as the author of this base note). 4

182.1 | some of the things I've done | ATE012::BERUBE | My Biscuits Are Burning!!! | Tue Apr 10 1990 15:08 | 27 |
One of the things I've been doing for the past couple of years is to keep a spiral notebook type of daily log for all my trip's (especially now that I have the tent trailer). Things that I've been keeping track of are - Campground/Hotel we stayed at - What I liked/disliked about the accomodations - What we did - Where we ate - What we would/wouldn't do again - What we would do differently next time - mileage driven (if by car) - etc. I found this to be helpfull when trying to put together the photo's in our albums, based on day to day etc.. I've also found it usefully in remembering things I need to do when planning my next vacation whether it be at Disney or elsewhere. Things I've done in the past while at Disney, was to mark on the Park pamphlets what attraction's I saw on a given day, thereby aid in the planning for the next day and so on. While either waiting for the others prior to breakfast or prior to going to bed at night, I've often brosed through the Birmbaum guide, or other Disney paraphernalia they give you for ideas on planning which order to visit a given park etc. Claude
182.2 | trip report info in back pocket | TLE::KARAM | Wed Apr 11 1990 13:19 | 16
I kept a small notepad in my back pocket. I made entries into it for items I was interested in tracking, i.e. food, souveniers, snacks, ... Entries were made in the morning over the morning cup of coffee, along with discussing the upcoming days events, at meal times, when we sat down for our meals, while in line waiting for attractions, and in the evening, if I had enough energy left. Decide what you are most interested in tracking and jot it down. I was most interested in the "bottom line" for our trip, so all expenses were listed in the notepad. We didn't base any of our decisions on what the cost would be, but wanted to get a handle on the amount of money we spent to gauge what would be needed for our next trip. peter
182.3 | Just a suggestion | YODA::DUVAL | Thu Apr 19 1990 14:11 | 5
Before I leave for any trip, I always try to have an Itinerary made up. I carry this itinerary with me and jot notes down on it pertaining to the day and function attended. I have been to WDW five times, my last being in 88. I will be going again in March of 91.
182.4 | Helpful Hints | VISUAL::SCOPA | I'd rather be in Orlando | Mon Jul 15 1991 11:09 | 52 |
Here's another thought for those of you who will be entering trip reports. Firsttimers may be interested in the expense of the trip so any cost information would be helpful. I realize we have a note on expense (note 28 Expense of WDW) and that should be updated with new information whenever necessary. The trip reports can add to that info. Things to keep in mind when including expense information in the trip reports: - Transportation costs o Airfare (by air) o Gas & tolls (by car) o Railfare (by train) o Other (boat) - Hotel costs o Number of nights o MKC or other special plan o Dates - Admission costs o What type pass o What others did you consider - Food costs (always tough to estimate) o Where you ate o What you ate o What it cost - Dinner shows o Which ones o Cost (Hoop Dee Doo is $32 for adults these days) - Non WDW Costs o Sea World Admission o Universal Studios Admission o Medieval Times, King Henry's Feast, etc. Again, any information would be helpful to those noters planning on going for the first time.
