I do not want to scare anyone with this story, but it sure opened my
eyes.
Well, I guess the illusion that one is safe at Disneyland in a fantasy
world is shattered.
On Sunday, February 11, 1990 I took the family to Disneyland. We had
a good time, not too crowded, but decided to take the train around the
park to give the kids a break of walking to the front gate while leaving.
We got to the northern part of the park, entering into Fantasyland,
when a passenger in the next car reported to the conductor that her
daughter just fell getting off the train. She was holding her
daughter (about 8 years old) who seemed to be loosing it. Her
daughter kept holding her side. I never saw so many security
people come from nowhere. That night on the 11:00 news, the
story was that a stray bullet hit a child while she was riding on
the train in Disneyland. Yes, the Santa Ana freeway does go past
that part of the park, but it is my guess that someone was out in the
woods behind the train. What are the odds of a bullet entering the
park from the outside, missing all the trees and hitting someone on
the train?
That area is pretty desolate and in the evening when it is dark, one
could hide without detection. This will not stop me from going back to
Disneyland. I will continue to go back as long as the park is open.
To think I was on that train and it could have been me or one of my
family, but then again this is Southern California.

| It's a different world out there nowadays. Southern California is
certainly not the only place that has lunatics loose on the streets.
I'm from Boston and the murder rate is growing day by day.
The bottom line is to enjoy each day. I have visted Disneyland four
times and I must say that I enjoy it as much as my kids do.

| At least there are not armed guards at the gate to search you like
they do in New Jersey (Seven Flags???). The person in front of us had
to leave thier mace in the trash bucket.

| I know that Disney does have to deal with some pretty sad situations.
It seems that the park is attractive to people who want attention.
I know for a fact that they have to deal often with people who
"end it" by jumping off space mountain or other means. Disney deserves
a lot of credit for keeping the park safe and for keeping these
thngs quiet. There must be an awful lot of employee activity when
the park closes each night to check things out and prepare for the
next day.
