    (I couldn't quite figure out which topic to enter this in, so I started
    a new one.  If the moderator thinks it belongs elsewhere feel free to
    move it. ;-)

    The 1990 Series Disney Dollars were issued on 20-November-1989.  This
    year for the first time they include a $10 bill.  For those unfamiliar
    with Disney Dollars, they are currency that can be purchased and used
    at Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Stores, and by mail order.  They
    can also be exchanged for real money at any time.

    Here is an excerpt from a flier I got at WDW that day:

         New Money! Introducing the 1990 Series Disney Dollars.

         Today, November 20, 1989 you can be among the first to
         purchase the 1990 Series Disney Dollars, including our
         new Minnie masterpiece, the $10 bill!  With our most
         famous female on the front, the $10 bill features a
         Disneyland Park montage and our special 35th Anniversary
         logo.  Of course, this colorful cash comes in Mickey
         Mouse $1 and Goofy $5 denominations too.

    Of course we had to pick up a couple of Minnies to see what they were
    like.

    We have used Disney Dollars as rewards for our kids in the months
    preceding our trip to WDW, and as gifts for various nieces and nephews
    on their way down.

    I was showing a Mickey $1 bill to a friend the other night, and she
    couldn't quite understand why I would willingly exchange "US American
    Greenback Money" for Disney Dollars.  She doesn't understand that
    Mickey Mouse is much more fun than George Washington.

	I know this is probably a silly question, but how do you get hold of Disney dollars? From the bank, bureau do change? They sound a cute idea! Karen (four days and counting)

	You can get Disney dollars as change when you buy your tickets. I bought some at the Disney store and had them framed floating between two panes of glass. They are hanging in my office. They are adorable. LInda

	If you arrive by air you can buy your Disney dollars at the airport Disney shop. You can also buy your passports there. The staff will also help book any character breakfasts etc. Robin Kay@OLO

	Getting your annual passport involves two processes. First you purchase a paper version of the passport then you take that to a special spot in the TTC and get your picture taken for your actual passport. When we were getting our annual passports in October 1989 it was implied that we could buy annual passports anywhere tickets were sold within WDW. You may be able to get them at a Disney Store or even at the airport. However, even if you buy them ahead of time you will have to go to the TTC to have your picture taken. This took us about 15 minutes. If you are upgrading a multi-day passport to an annual passport you have to purchase your new passport at the special window in the TTC. We spent about 15 minutes in line before purchasing our passports. When upgrading they date your passport from the first day you used your multi-day passport.

	Yes. Disney Dollars are as good as cash anywhere in the World. Why then, you may ask, should you use Disney Dollars instead of good old American greenbacks? Simple. American money just has pictures of some old dead guys, not real live cartoon characters like Mickey, Goofy and Minnie. Where's the magic in that? Gawsh!

	Accepted "Worldwide" but you may notice that some vendors are happier with cash. I asked one vendor cast member about this and he said that when they ring up their sales at the end of the day they don't count up the Disney dollars as "take in". If they have sold $100 worth of merchandise and $90 is cash and $10 is DD then they are credited with the $90 and "The World" is credited with $10. I never truly understood this. Mike

	It makes sense. If they counted it as cash in this case, they would be double counting the income. They already counted the cash when they sold you the Disney Dollars, with the added advantage that they get to hold it, while all you get is a cute piece of colored paper.

	Yeah, it makes sense why they don't count it as take-in (it works like a gift certificate), but not why some vendors don't like it. Are Disney vendors on some kind of commission? Are they evaluated on the basis of take-in? Neither makes sense. - Sean

	This past week I stopped by the Customer Relations window and asked about the disney dollars and if they were doing anything special for the 20th anniversary. The person at the desk said she did not have any information about the 1992 bills yet but she had heard that they might be coming out with a $20 bill. I thought she said that Goofy was to be on the note, but Goofy is on the $5 note. Has anyone heard anything about the 1992 series and the possibility of a $20 bill? Al 8^)
