149.0. "New Years Eve Events?" by BIGSUR::MEYER_ED () Fri Dec 01 1989 17:15

Does anyone know if WDW does anything special for New Years Eve.
Are they open later than normal? Etc.

Also, the family and I are planning on arriving in Orlando airport
at 6PM, Dec 31st. Will it be worth our while to go to WDW that night?
Is there a chance that it will be full?

Thanks in advance,

Your best bet is to call the numbers listed in note 98.0 (BTW it's
against conference policy to request hours of operation), they will be
able to tell you what events if any will be running and at what
times/cost, so you be able to judge for yourself.

If/When you call please post the info on events along with there
times/cost hers, BUT please post the operating hours in 98.*.

> Is there a chance that it will be full?

You bet.

i called disney a couple weeks ago and they have about 5 or 6 things
going on new years...most of them were $100 or over per person for
the events...seems like they had something around each aread of the
park..the polynesian revue had something, a couple hotels did..the
cheapest thing they had (which i'm doing) is at pleasure island and
its an all night street party for $55 with free drinks and eats..
give 'em a call and check out how much you want to spend..

149.3FIREWORKS AT MIDNIGHTMCIS2::TROBBINSSun Dec 10 1989 07:403
I was at Disneyworld several years ago on New Year's Eve. At that time,
the Magic Kingdom was open past midnight on New Year's Eve. It was very
crowded, but they had a great fireworks display over the castle at midnight.
149.4New Year's Eve a ZOO!FDCV07::CAMPBELLMon Dec 11 1989 14:5117
I was at Disneyworld last year for New Year's Eve. Its a zoo!!!! We
left my son at my parents and tried to get a room for the night on
site but couldn't. We ended up at the pickett suites in Lake Buena
Vista, it was gorgeous. We went over to the Magic Kingom around 7:00
and I have never seen so many people. Now I have been to WDW in
summer, September, April (school vacation),and Christmas, and belive me
New Year's Eve is the worst. We wanted to get something to eat and
everyplace had 2-3 hour lines. To even get a coke at one of the on
street carts, I'm not kidding, had to be about 30 minute line. We
finally got fed up and left, went over to Disney Village and got a
nice, cozy, quite, romantic table at Captain Jacks Oyster Bar. What a
wonderful place. We even went back again this past August just for a
drink, nice people and relaxing. Franklin Avalon was playing at the
Polyn beach party last year and it was $100 a person. Everything on
site was at least that price, the Pleasure Island thing sounds like a
great deal. Let us know how you like it.

I hate to disapoint you ;^), But the Pickett Suites is definitely a
On-Site hotel, may not be a Disney-Owned Hotel, but definitely a
On-Site Hotel, just like the other hotels at WDW Village (Hilton,
Ho-Jo's etc.).

So you stayed on site after all.

I just have a problem remembering that. I meant only that I tried
to stay in the Poly, DIsney Inn, Contemporary or Grand Floridian and
couldn't get in. I did like the Pickett suites alot, if only it was
on the monorail system, I'd stay there all the time. Huge living
room, kitchenette, bedroom, bathroom with a TV! 3 tv's in this one
suite.

149.7New Year at WDWWOTVAX::BATTYWell, I wouldn't start from here!Tue Oct 29 1991 13:119
Some friends are going to WDW just after Christmas, and are
staying over New Year. Can anyone make any recommendations of
where/how they should celebrate the New Year apart from Pleasure
Island?

The group consists of Mum and Dad (late 30's), daughter 16, son 12
and Grandma (late 50's but very energetic!)

149.8good time had by allODIXIE::SIVRETTue Oct 29 1991 14:3912
We spent last New Years Eve at Universal Studios. It was the best New
Year Eve party that I've ever been to. We went with about 8 frends and
everybody had a great time. Most of the rides were operating, and each
area had a diffrent theme. In Hollywood they had a huge Cast party.
In New York they had a street party like Times Square and in San
Francisco they had a Chinese New Year party. At 11:30 they had the
Stunt show in the lagoon followed by a great fireworks display. We had
dinner reservations in San Francisco at Lombardi's Landing for a
special New Years dinner ($30PP all enclusive), can't remember what
they were charging to get in, but I seem to remember it was a reduced
admission. Also they had R&R Bands playing all night as well. We will
most likly be there again this year.
