We are departing the shores of the UK heading for Florida for 3
weeks (8th October - 21st October).
We will be spending the first week in ORLANDO at the DELTA COURT
OF FLAGS and the remaining two weeks in CLEARWATER at the CLEARWATER
BEACH HOTEL.
We have a car for the full 3 week period.
Is there any kind soul out there who would be prepared to suggest
an itinary (ie things that we should see etc)
Any comments on our hotels?
Is carparking at Disneyworld a problem?
Will we survive the crowds?
I know the info is in this notesfile somewhere but......
In anticipation,
Mike

There shouldn't be too bad of crowds during that time of October
mainly because school is back in session. Parking is not a problem
at all because they have trams that go the length of the parking
lot, so you never have to walk very far.
You should pick up Birnbaums Official Guide to Walt Disney World.
This book tells you *everything* you need to know about Disney World.
If it is not available at your local bookstores, I am sure that
you will be able to buy it at the airport in Orland at one of the
gift shops. The book is a treasure as a guide to Disney and Orlando.
Have a wonderful trip !!!

Mike,
Welcome to the fast growing UK wing of the Mickey Mouse
Appreciation Society. Before I offer any itinery suggestions, there
are some things you need to do urgently.
1. folow the policy in 2.31 for obtaining/requesting a Magic Kingdom
Club membership card. This gives you worthwhile discounts on various
Disney things (Admissions, souvenir purchases etc.). Included in
the package are discount cards for various other attractions like
Sea World, Boardwalk and Baseball, Cypress Gardens.
2. Request from your local library a book called The Official Guide
to WDW by Steven Birnbaum. Read it from cover to cover!
3. Read this conference from cover to cover!
3 is slightly tongue in cheek, but every question you are likely
to ask is covered somewhere in here. The problem which you and most
other Brits will have is that you have no idea of the size and scope
of the attractions until you get there, and that is far too late
to start replanning and rescheduling to fit things in. Things are
vast out there, each of the theme parks - Magic Kingdom, EPCOT,
MGM Studios equate to 2 or 3 Alton Towers. Find out as much detail
as you can before you go, don't worry about setting expectations
too high, they will be equalled or surpassed.
If you start reading the trip reports in 34.* especially mine and
Richard Bell's from Leeds, you will see some of it from a UK
perspective. You will see from them that I spent a full week doing
other attractions in Orlando, and then 2 weeks purely on WDW. We
still didn't see everything, and are having to go back again at
Christmas (Shame!!)
It would help if you could tell us the composition of your party,
number of kids and ages etc., but here are some thoughts on your
schedule. (These are opinions only, no flames please!)
Sea World - Good for a full day - 9am to 6pm. Do a Dinner Show in
the evening.
Kennedy Space Centre - Even the wife and 6yr old daughter were
impressed. One hour plus drive, but with an early start, you can
still get back in time for an evening in Orlando.
Gatorland Zoo - We enjoyed it, but we're not used to 'gators walking
across our gardens so it was all new. Half day only.
Walt Disney World - You will need at least 4 days here, or you will
miss too much. 1 day MGM-Disney Studios, 1 day Epcot, 1 day MK,
and split the fourth day between Epcot and the MK. Any more days
you can squeeze in here will help.
Parking will not be a problem, these people are used to handling
large crowds. It should be fairly quiet in October, but if the parking
lots are full, then so are the parks, so go elsewhere.
I can't help with your time in Clearwater (and this is the Disney
Notesfile after all!!), but if you post the question in
DECENT::HOLIDAY_TRAVEL (See the Related Conferences Topic) you should
get some answers.
Feel free to mail me in Warrington if you want info that is too
detailed or irrelevant to this conference.

Hi!
Can somebody explain what the Magic Kingdom Club Membership Card is and
how we Brits come to be able to get one? I'm sure it says it somewhere
in this conference...
Thanks,
Karen

Hi Karen,
Note 2.* discusses the MKC, Magic Kingdom CLub.
Note 2.25 gives a contact person for a MKC card. This is the same
person mentioned in note 136.3.

Karen,
I guess that Claude is still on vacation, so copying his style
<See Note 2.*>
I did start a long reply, then "Network Partner Exited". I got my
card without problems, and I reckon that although we went peak season,
and so didn't get any discount on accomodation, the savings on
admissions and other purchases was over 150 pounds. Included in
the package were other 'discount cards' for other Orlando attractions
like Sea World. I also found that using the MKC booking desk, we
got accomodation when some Non-Dec friends using the normal Disney
route 'lucked out'
