135.3 | Discount for Annual Passholders | ASABET::KUMPEL | Bill Kumpel DTN 223-3751 | Wed Nov 08 1989 12:40 | 13 |
| I am not sure that this is the best place to put this. I could not find
a note that dealt with annual passes only.
I have just received a mailing from WD (my wife just called to say were
going again for the 3rd time this year after this came). If you have an
annual passport you can stay at the Poly,Contempory,Disney Inn, Villas
and FW trailers between now and Febuary 11,1990 (with the exception of
Xmas week) for $99.00 a night. In most cases this is better than the
MKC 20% but not necessarily better than the 40% stockholders. If anyone
needs more info let me know and I'll post it.
P.S. Mr Moderators. If you think there is a better place for this
please feel free to move it.

| This $99 special is a good deal.
I just cancelled my 40% shareholders special and got in on this progam.
This one is not saving me a whole lot of money ($3.00/night) since my old
reservation was for a garden room at the Polynesian at $102. However, under
this plan I was able to get a Lagoon room with Royal Polynesian (Concierge)
Service which should be much nicer. This room is normally $235.00 during
the regular season.
I will be going for 8 nights starting Nov 29th.

When I arrived at the Polynesian, the porter took our luggage, we walked
over to the TTC to buy our annual passes, and then we walked back to
the Poly to check in. When I made my reservations, the clerk told me I
would need my passes when I checked in to get the special.
Well, I checked in to the Poly and they never asked to see my pass.
After checking in I reminded them that I needed to show my annual
passports but they did not care to see them.
Maybe anothe desk clerk would make you show the pass to get a discount,
but I definately did not need to do so.

Hi Jim,
Just a few questions... it seems like you can make the annual
passport reservation without having the passport. We have 9 nights
next October, 5 of them at the Poly. Since, we're probably going
to have to buy the annual passport anyway, like you, we'd like to
change our reservations (normal MKC) to a special, if it it exists.
1) Is there a general time-frame that these annual passport
specials are offered (October might be too early)?
2) Are there only Polynesian passport specials?
Thanks,

| Last year (89), The annual passport holders special was $99 for any room in the
Poly, Disney Inn, or Contemporary. I chose the Poly Lagoon/concierge. The
special was good from late August 89 till early February 90. I understand that
they had a similar deal the year before. I do not think they advertise them
very far in advance.
This is just one of the many marketing schemes that Disney tries. I know of no
consistant way to stay on top of their deals except to read this notes file.
Other recent specials include the 40% discount for stockholders, or the
$59/person (or something like that) bed and breakfast special they advertised
recently in Disney News. This B&B was for the Disney Inn or Club villa's if I
remember right.

| When I was down in WDW, I was talking with the people in the annual
passport office. They informed me of a new special starting July 1st
wihich lasted into August sometime. This special offers a room at the
Disney Inn, a trailer at Fort Wilderness, or a Club Suite at the
village for $125. The special is for annual passport holders.
I found out about this during my stay at the CBR. I called the CRO and
was able to get a reservation at any of the three for my last 4 days (I
was leaving on July 5th and the special didn't start till the 1st). We
chose the Fort Wilderness trailers. At the last minute, we decided
that we did not want to leave the CBR so we cancelled the FW
reservation. We really wanted to try one of the other areas, but we
didn't feel like packing up and moving.

I just received my Delta frequent flyer brochure today. There
are some good discounts in there. If you are planning a trip
to WDW, it probably makes sense to get a Delta Frequent Flyer
Card. It seems to be better than the MKC card during several
periods (except for passports).
If you do not belong to Delta FF now, I would call Delta and
request an application. There is no charge. I would do this
even if I was not planning to fly Delta, as they are offering
discounts that I have not seen before (rooms, meals, dinner
shows, water sprites, recreation, seminars). I would call for
reservations even if I did not have a card yet, but the CRO
might want the FF number. Call (407)W-Disney ext 72 for room
reservations.
You need to show your Delta Frequent Flyer card at check-in
for rooms, or at the other locations for the discount. It
seems that you could get the restaurant, dinner show, and
other discounts even if you do not use the room specials, but
I am not positive.
Offers do not include concierge service, suite accommodations,
or preferred campsites.
Participating restaurants include: Garden Gallery, Pompano
Grille, Flagers, Old Port Royale, Steerman's Quarters,
Fisherman's deck, Empress Room, Portobello's, Fireworks
Factory.

135.20 | Restriction on Delta FF ? | TARKIN::BOUTOTTE | | Fri Aug 24 1990 14:04 | 15 |
| With regards to the Delta Frequent Flyer's Program, are there any
restrictions which apply to new card holders. I have recently become a
Delta Frequent Flyer so I missed the WDW discount information which was
sent out. Is there a minimum of FF miles required before any of the
mentioned discounts apply or is just possessing a Delta FF card enough
? We already have room reservations through MKC so I'm sure the Delta
discounts wouldn't apply there but the dining discounts would be great
!
Let me know if anyone out there has any info on this.
Thanks !

135.21 | No mileage required | ICS::THEALL | | Mon Aug 27 1990 12:24 | 15 |
| You do not need accumulated miles to use your card for the Disney
discount. The restrictions mentioned include the % discount applied is
different depending on the dates travelled. It would be to your
benefit to contact Delta and ask them to send you this brochure if you
haven't already rec'd it.
The only thing Disney requires, from my understanding, is that you
present your Delta F.F. card at the time of use.
As far as your room reservations, you may want to call the CRO and see
if they have any rooms available under the Delta F.F. Program and if so
you may find they are cheaper (depending on time of travel).
Good luck,

Last time I was at WDW using my stock holders discount to stay in a
$250 a night room for $140 I found out that some other people were staying in
the same type rooms for $99. It turned out that Disney has unadvertised
specials during low attendance periods. We were able to extend our stay at t
that rate but could not change the rate for the nights already spent or
reserved. I believe we could have gotten the lower rate if we had changed
our reservation before checking in. The moral is reserve early and keep
checking for better deals. The stock holders special rates are not always
the best deal. As an example....
I have just found out that Disney is offering rooms in the Yacht and Beach
club, the Poly, the contempory, Disney village and the Disney Inn for $125
during the month of April to MKC Gold card and Annual Passport holders.
The rates will be $99 for Annual Passport holders only during May. Other
discounts will be offered throughout the rest of the summer. The stock holders
discount is only 10%-20% (someone correct me on this) during this time.

135.25 | Why not? | COEM::SCOPA | I'd rather be in Orlando | Tue Mar 12 1991 15:35 | 12 |

You secure an Annual Passport.
Can you now change your rate?

|
135.26 | | TECRUS::JIM | Jim Pappas | Tue Mar 12 1991 20:53 | 22 |
| Mike,
The annual passport rates (or other specials) are only for a
limited number of rooms. Your best bet is to make your
reservations for the special rates ahead of time, that way you
are guaranteed to get that rate.
You do not need to be an annual passport holder to reserve the
rooms, but in theory you need to buy your passports prior to
checking into the hotel. In 1989, we did exactly that. When
we got to the Poly, we checked our luggage with the porter and
then walked next door to the TTC to buy our annual passports.
Then we walked back and checked into our $235/night lagoon
view concierge room at the $99 rate.
We had originally made regular MKC reservations, then we
switched them to the stockholder's discount when that was
announced. Later we changed them to the annual passport
special since that was the best deal. Each time we switched
our deposit was transferred to the new reservation as was our
reservations for dinner shows and character breakfasts.
|
135.27 | The Theory | COEM::SCOPA | I'd rather be in Orlando | Wed Mar 13 1991 12:25 | 12 |
| Jim,
So someone could make reservations. Go down to Orlando. Buy the annual
passports. Then check into the hotel/resort and show the passport and
possibly get a better rate?
I think that this theory holds for most of the Disney hotels except for
the CBR and most likely PO/DL. These two resorts are priced resonably
enough so that the Disney people usually don't have special (other than
MKC) rates for them.

Mike,
Providing what you are talking about is a regular or MKC
reservation, then what you say is not very likely, although it
might be possible. Usually when you check in, the clerk will
only give you the same rate as on your reservation. They may
have reduced rates on a space available basis for people
extending their stay or for walk-ins. The annual passport or
stockholder specials must usually be made through the special
programs office in advance and the available rooms usually
fill up prior to the day of arrival.
A better way to say this is that someone could make a
reservation under the annual passport (or stockholder's) plan
even though they do not have an annual passport (or stock).
Then, providing they buy an annual passport (or stock) prior
to checking into the hotel, then they should be OK.

| More info on my Annual Passport discount for next January:
My reservation form quotes a price of $190/night, which is higher than
this year's regular rate for the Contemporary at that time of year. It
does note that this is a Passholder Special, and that the special
includes just the room price, but never mentions the special price
(quoted over the phone as $99/night).
The unfortunate part is that I've received two different explanations. The
first explanation, from a supervisor, was that the original agent neglected
to add yet another computer code to my entry. The second explanation was that
the real rates for next January haven't been set yet, so they don't want
to quote a price in writing. Either way, I'm disappointed at their confusion
over this.
I sent in a cover letter with my deposit (the full one night's deposit of
$190+tax), but so far all I've received is a confirmation saying that they
got my deposit. I'm not panicking yet. I figure I should still be able
to get rooms at the CBR if I call around July, and I know I can get my deposit
back. Still, I'm surprised that they don't have their act together on
this one. Perhaps I expect too much?

Gary,
I made reservations for the Passholder's special at the Beach Club
resort. My rate is also $99, but it stated that right on the
reservation form. I suggest that you try again to make a brand new
reservation for the Contemporary, and if it comes through the way you
want it, have them transfer your deposit from the old reservation to
the new one.
Just a thought. I thought the "specials" time period only ran from
September through Christmas (also unavailable during the Thanksgiving
weekend). Maybe they don't have the ability in their system to specify
the special rate outside of the special time period.

I called last weekend to make reservations for a couple of weeks in

August (I think the 17th) and runs through September 30th. The next
special starts on December 1st. The woman I spoke with said they will

I don't get it. I booked the $99 special at DYC for September, and
they told me that they don't guarantee any room type for the special.
You get what you get at check-in. When the written confirmation came,
it indicated "Parking View", (which I guess is better than "Dolphin
View :-).
How did you manage to confirm a lagoon view?

| At first I just called and made a reservation for any old room on the
special. Then I was curious, so I called back and asked what kind
of room I had. The code said a garden view. I figured that was the
standard room for the special, so asked if I could upgrade, expecting
to pay more. She told me she had a lagoon view, so I said OK and asked
the price. She told me it was still only $99! This person didn't seem
to think there was any problem at all. I can't remember clearly, but
I think she was the person who answered at the regular number, not the
one to whom you are forwarded to discuss the special program. When I
had asked for ext. 72 she said she could help me.
The confirmation hasn't come in the mail yet -- maybe that will be a
different story. I did ask for a king size bed, and she put me down
as a honeymooner. After 21 years it's more like a veteran of the
wars!
Might be worth another call to see if you can get something definite.

I think these types of things are typical for Disney. I may have
mentioned it in here before, but it seems like bookings, lodgings,
specials, etc. are available *if* you get a CRO representative who
knows about it.
It seems like some people have easy times getting certain reservations,
some don't. One rep will say a special exists, another says it
doesn't, and many of them have different dates and prices.
MAybe I'm exaggerating a tad, but it makes me think that not more than
a little luck is involved in getting that stockholder/annual passport
special/etc. at for the dates and times and conditions that *really*
exist.
They need better dissemination of this sort of info (actually I tell
everybody that good Disney specials exist, but WDW wants you to *work*
for them!) Anyhow, we manage to go back often enough, anyway...

When I called for the special, the person told me it was $99 for a
lagoon view room. I certainly didn't argue since they had earlier
quoted me $225 for a lagoon view room (this was before they knew that I
knew about the $99 special ;^> ). My confirmation notice stated lagoon
view. My reservations are for the first week of December.
re: .38
The reservationists are definitely trying to get you to go for the most
expensive room available, and only go down when you say no. And if you
don't know about a specific special, it doesn't seem that they will
tell you about it.

| Last July I arrived a day early in Orlando and I called the CRO. After
about 15 minutes going over all the available spots I was able to
secure a Garden Wing "Lake View" room at the Contemporary for $125.
This was on July 10th which is not during "Value Season".
If you look at Claude's price note you see the same room going for
$215. It pays to spend time on the phone exploring all possibilities

holders special running from Jun 10th to Aug 15th - $125 for
Contemporary, Poly, DI, DY&BC, FW and Disney Village 1 Bed. $150
for GF and Disney Village 2 Bed. Yeeeeeha!!
Discussed it with wife and kids, and decided on Contemporary. Rang
back to change CBR to Contemporary, and FW to lower rate. Put
through to 'Specials' desk to book. "I'm sorry, we have no
specials running for that period!" Aaaaagh!!
Spoke to apologetic supervisor, to confirm, and express disgust.
Rang off very depressed! Until then I was happy to have a holiday

That's correct. The same applies to MKC discounts. The regular rates
at these properties are less than or equal any $99 special they could
come up with.
They also usually don't include the Grand Floridian in the special rate
promotions. I guess it's a matter of what the traffic will bear. I was

special in the fall. The regular operator told me that it was included
8/16 - 9/30 at $150 and 11/30 - 12/22 at $150
Today I called to check availability at the time I already have
reservations for the YC, and I was told by the special desk that
these dates are invalid for the GF. The only dates that the special
desk had for the GF were the ones Mike tried to make reservations
for,
6/10 - 8/15 at $150!!!
The clerk, Tisha, had checked with her supervisor in charge of all
specials, Cheryl. This is what Cheryl told her.
I get the impression that Disney is trying to fill up the more
expensive hotels any way they can, and that there are so many specials
running that the cast members can't keep track of them all.

nights from July 14th! (I will wait until I have the confirmation
slip before I cancel the full price reservation and swing over the

I then enquired about specials on other hotels for the period 30th
June to July 13th. "Yes, we have an AP special running from ?? May
thru 9th June and 10th June thru 16th August. (Why stated as two
separate but contiguous periods I didn't ask) For the two weeks
you are interested in, I am only showing availability at the

Looks like the previous note was right, Disney are just trying to
fill vacancies by any means, and if the person you speak to

person and you will get a different answer.
Maybe, by July, if there are still vacancies they might have a $99

Never stayed on a Special price so don't know, but when you reserve on
the normal package plan it you don't get what you asked for
(downgraded) you would be compensated.

Sounds like you or the Operator thought you were booking a plan and not
just lodging. The 21 day requirement is for the booking of plans well
in advance.

My confirmation slip also has an interesting notation on it. It

My confirmations always say this, whether I'm doing a "plan" (Grand
Plan, Adventure Package) or just booking nights on a per-day basis
off some special (stock). I think they just like to bookkeep this
way - my total $$ always add up to what I thought I was paying per
night.
The other thing I noticed is the balance of the money is due 21

This also has been true for me whenever I go to WDW, whether I'm on

| Sean, when I saw the non-plan nights I immediately checked the total
which was correct. I was just wondering if (hoping?) there might be
some additional benefits to the special that I didn't know about.
The only idea I have on the plan/non-plan nights is that you have to
book at least 4 nights to get the $99 discount. Does this sound
feasible?
Claude, since this is a $99 special there wouldn't be any refund due.
I don't really care what view I have at that price but I would like
to know if I'll really get a pool view (before I get my hopes up!).
Actually, I've never had my room downgraded but I have been upgraded
at no extra charge - got a bay lake view in the north garden wing at
the Contemporary Resort back in 1988. It was the best room I've ever
stayed in.
As for paying off the balance 21 days in advance... The only time
I've had to do this has been when I booked World Vacation plans
through the MKC. If I've booked rooms only through the MKC I've
only had to pay the one night's deposit in advance. The balance
was due after our stay. The $99 special is booked through the
CRO which seems to have different policies from the MKC. For example,
my MKC reservation allows a full refund if I cancel it at least
48 hours in advance. The CRO reservation allows a full refund if I
cancel it at least 5 days in advance.

That must be it, when booking a Special rate (Annual Passport, Stock
etc.), there must be some restriction on the minimum number of nights
to be eligible, hence the 4 nights plan, with x nights off plan on your
confirmation slip. Or it's just Disney computer software way of
handling the specials ;^).

Well I just tried again. Talked to a rep in "special programs".
I asked why, even though I was told that they don't guarantee any
particular room type on the passholders special, other people I know
were able to confirm lagoon view rooms.
She confirmed that what I was told originally was correct. I doesn't
matter what your confirmation says, you'll get what ever is available
at check-in. I'm just as likely to get a lagoon view as a parking
view, and someone who's confirmation says lagoon view might get a
parking view if that's all that's available. All they are confirming
is a room for the quoted price. She claimed that this was explained to
everyone who booked the special.
She said that they have to put in some room type that shows as
available to make the reservation valid on their system. I love when
people blame it on the computer.
Since my confirmation says "parking view", I figure that's all they
really owe me for my $99. If it said lagoon view, and they told me the
only room available was one with a dumpster, (or worse dolphin), view,
I'd be pissed.
I did manage to get her to add a special request for an upgrade to
lagoon view to the reservation record. Who knows, it may help.
Linda and Jay you may want to call and see if you get the same party

| Re: .53 Disney Channel Special
After reading this note I immediatly called CRO because I already have
reservations at Fort Wilderness during the time frame for this special.
The rep. I spoke to checked my reservation and confirmed that I
qualified for the special. My original reservation was for 6 nights in
a trailer total of $1221. The rep. told me I could have the same 6
nights ,total of $1311, and this includes (1) 6 day adult super pass
and (1) 6 day child super pass, I asked for the MKC prices of the
passes and I don't remember right now the exact prices but the total
was around $300. So for an extra $90 I could get 2 passes worth $300.
Being the mathmatical genius that I am I figure $210 savings is a good
deal.
This is where the fun starts. This past friday I receive the new
confirmation and it jives with everything I was told on the phone.
6 days Disney chanel plan total due $1311.
Yesterday I receive a second confirmation with the same confirmation #
but the total due is only $905. So I call CRO to verify my confirmation
and check again what is included and was told that I have 6 days in a
trailer with (1) 6 day adult superpass and (1) 6 day child superpass.
Grand total of $905.
So I went from a 6 day trailer only for $1221.
To 6 day trailer and (2) 6 day superpasses for $905.
I can't explain the reduction in price between the two confirmations
but I certainly am not going to question it!!

Stay at a Walt Disney World Resort (we chose Ft. Wilderness) for
minimum 5 days and each adult (up to two) gets a free Six-day super
pass for each child (up to two) pass... this is a saving of up to $300.
When I called (1-800-W-Disney x72) I was quoted $104/night including
tax at the Ft. Wilderness Resort and since there are three people in
our family, we will receive one adult superpass and one child
superpass. We will have to purchase one ticket ourselves. (If we had
another kid, we'd get the passes for free). The 6-day Superpass
includes unlimited access to Magic Kingdom, Epcot, MGM, Typhoon Lagoon,
River Country, Pleasure Island, Discovery Island.
We will plan to use our MKC Card to get a discount on the extra ticket
we have to buy. All in all it doesn't sound like a bad deal? By the

| The confusion about various plan and non-plan nights is partially
created by the computer system conversion that is going on at DW. The
20 year old Univax system is being replaced with an up-to-date Unisys
reservation system. Some of the reservations are being confused
because the new system has alot more options and features than the old
system and operators are not all trained on how to get the specials in
from of them on the screen. If you insist on speaking to a supervisor
they are doing all sorts of things to make people happy to get by right
now. My reservations go totally mucked up and I had someone from the
Computer Systems Dept call me and fix it up with overrides that you
would not believe. My confirmations came in with the date of 99/99/99
and was confirmed without deposit! (I'm sure I can't get that again) I
also got all sorts of apologies and then we talked about what was going
on there after I expained what I did and who I worked for. As in all
conversions, this one has been painful but they are now up and running
on the new system with the mucked up reservations being taken care of
in the "most cordial way" and it's true.
There are lot's of specials, even if you have reservations call at

The last time I used this special (Nov 89 @ Poly) they did not
check to see if I had an annual PP. Things may be different

Only one person per room needs an annual passport. In fact,

My husband asked the reservation clerk about this the other day, as we
will not be getting our passports until after we arrive in WDW. He was
told that we should get them as soon as we arrive, as we will need to
show them in order to get the special rate at check-in time.
He didn't ask if everyone in the room needs a passport to get the rate,
as there will just be the two of us and we will both be getting one.

135.74 | AP Specials unlikely to change. | WOTVAX::BATTY | Well, I wouldn't start from here! | Thu May 30 1991 12:08 | 22 |
| I rang the CRO yesterday, to see if the AP special rate for July
had changed (We'd be interested in the Y&BC at $99, but not at
$125). I spoke to a lady called Lee-Ann on the Special Programs
Desk. She sounded as though she'd been with Disney for a while,
and volunteered a lot of information.
She said that because of the current financial climate, the less
expensive accomodation was heavily oversubscribed, so the specials
were aimed at filling up the more expensive places, while
rewarding people for their loyalty to Disney (Annual Passes,
Stockholders etc). No surprises here!
She did add that the program was felt to have been successful,
achieving their desired occupancy ratios, so she didn't expect the
rates to be lowered, unless some major outside influence caused a
lot of cancellations.
Oh, Well, I'm happy with the CBR, and we'll take the opportunity
to have a good look round the Y&BC, to decide for ourselves
whether it's worth the extra.

We have never received unsolicitaded FF materials from Delta. The only

They even send my son a card for his birthday every January, aside from

135.76 | American Express Kids go Free Deal | CUPTAY::FARINA | | Thu May 30 1991 19:21 | 14 |
| I don't recall seeing anything in here about the American Express "kids
go free" special being run. You have to go before December 20 or 21 (I
don't have my papers here with me) and you have to go on the grand
plan! I called for my brother and asked what it would cost for two
adults and two kids at Fort Wilderness in November on the AE special (I
had to ask for extension 72) and it was just over $1800. When you
think about it, three meals a day for four, superpasses for four, and a
few other extras - not bad if you have an American Express card and the
cash to pay it off right away! Oh, it's the usual "four night" deal,
of course. People without children (or who aren't bringing them) get
$300 off.

135.80 | Disney Channel special | VAXUUM::LOWELL | Grim Grinning Ghosts... | Wed Jun 26 1991 17:06 | 50 |
| I have some questions about the Disney Channel subscriber package.
I tried to make a reservation for 12 nights, starting on Dec. 1st
at Fort Wilderness. At first I was quoted a total price of $1450
for 2 adults and 2 children. This seemed reasonable to me, since
it included 13 day super passes. The woman at the CRO couldn't
believe it either and confirmed it with her supervisor.
Unfortunately, the woman from the CRO called me back about ten
minutes later to let me know that I wouldn't be getting 13 day
passes (no problem, the ad said 6 day passes) AND, the package
rate only covered 5 nights. The other 7 nights would be at the
regular rate ($160 plus tax per night). To top things off, I
ended up with two separate reservations.
Something has to be wrong here. The ad for the special says,
"Stay at a select Walt Disney World Resort for five nights or
more, and..." It doesn't seem logical that they would require
two reservations. In all my Disney experience, I have never had
this happen. I had expected to get a special resort rate for 12
nights and four 6 day passes. Comments anyone?
At first I chose to stay with the Disney Channel package for 5
nights and used the annual passholder special for the extra 7
nights. But, they said my sister would need an annual pass at
check-in (with my luck, they'd actually check it). I was going
to investigate converting the 6 day passes into annuals, but
decided it wasn't worth it. I ended up booking all 12 nights at
the annual passholder rate and will purchase 4 annual passes.
I'm thinking of calling again to see if I can book get the special
rate for all 12 nights as $1450 is less than the cost of 12 nights
at the annual passholder rate plus the cost of annual passes for
2 adults and 2 children (plus admission to the other stuff included
in the super passes).
Oh, one thing I wanted to try was to upgrade the super passes to
annual passes (after using some of the extras of course). Do you
think this would be a problem? It shouldn't be for the children's
passes since their price is included in the price of the special.
I am more worried about the adult passes. Being able to convert
the passes would make the special more appealing.
Ruth
FYI - I was quoted a total of $1110 for five nights at Fort Wilderness
for 2 adults and 2 children. The required deposit is $103.47
which makes it look like the package costs $103.47 per night.
In reality, it is more like $200 when you add in the 6 passes.
I wonder if they are purposely trying to hide the true cost or
if it's a result of their new reservation system.

| We just returned from WDW where we stayed at the Beach Club
using the $99 annual passport holder's special. I have an
annual passport and I reserved 2 rooms, one for us, and the
other for may folks at the AP rate.
When we checked in, the clerk almost flipped when she saw the
rate (this was the first day of the AP special). She said
that she had never seen a rate that low for any room at the
Beach Club never mind a lagoon view room. In fact, she was
asking how we got such a low rate. She had made reservations
for her folks to visit and her reservation was for more money.
Anyway, as I had suspected (based on my previous trip), I was
never asked to show my annual passport at check-in. My guess
is that once you have a reservation under any of the specials
(annual passport, stock, MKC Gold Card, or whatever), then you
do not have to verify that you qualify at check-in. However,
your mileage may vary. Don't come back complaining to me that
you were charged $245/night because you did not qualify for
the special you signed up for.

the indignation of halving to ask you to verify you are a
passholder, thus not making them look like they doubt everybody !
Sounds like the way it should be done to me !
then again maybe they key in that field when you tell them you are a

The moral of the story ! I wouldn't try to claim to be a passholder if
I wasn't. You may end up very embarressed and with a LARGE hotel bill !

passports, but they said our room was ready and we could check in
immediatly. I didn't say a word about the passport and they didn't

135.90 | Does anybody really know what's going on? | USCTR1::JTRAVERS | | Tue Sep 10 1991 17:15 | 41 |
| Here's another saga..
I have found the confirmation form very confusing, and dealing with
Disney personnel over the phone almost as confusing...
I called Disney in May to make arrangements to stay at FW this
September. We decided to take advantage of a Disney Channel package
(detailed somewhere else in this conference) which stated that if we
stayed at a Disney resort for five nights or more we'd get free 6-day
superpasses for each adult accompanied by a child.
Jeff, the Disney rep, quoted me $104/night (Including tax)and said
that the superpasses would be waiting for us at check in.
I was impressed and figured it had to be off-season. We decided to
stay for 6 nights. When the confirmation arrived, the per/night rate
was $77.49 and the total bill was $807.... weird. Anyway, I didn't
question it at the time and paid the bill in two installments.
In mid-August we thought we'd extend our stay an extra night and I
called Disney to add another night. I was quoted $160/night. I said
NO WAY! I'm not paying $160 for one night's stay when the rest of my
stay is at $104. The rep said they had no such rate as $104 and the
package was for only five nights. I fought about this as the ad read
"stay five nights or more" I then got out the confirmation and noted
that the per/night rate was $77.49.
I asked for an explanation - what's the 77.49 for? and if the rate is
77.49/night, why am I billed for $807??? I got such a run around.
Something to do with the fact that the cost of the superpasses is added
into the stay and then discounted?
Anyway, I fought hard and worked my way up the representative ladder
till I got someone who would give me an extra night's stay at the same
rate as my other nights.
The Killer is that the rep tells me now my complete package will be
$893 for the seven nights. ($893 - $807 = $85.) So the extra night is
actually costing me less than the other night's stay. I'm so confused.
I KNOW I'm getting a good deal - I shouldn't complain, but really...
|
135.91 | | TECRUS::JIM | Jim Pappas | Wed Sep 11 1991 00:06 | 12 |
| It sounds to me like you are getting room for $77.49 + tax/night.
Florida hotel room tax is 10% and 77.49 + 10% is about $85.00.
I would strongly recommend bringing your confirmation with you. If I
had a confirmation showing that rate, and if it did not state "room
rate is not guaranteed", then I would make sure that I was only charged
the nightly rate of $77.49/night once I arrived.
I would agree that you are getting a fabulous deal. My guess is that
someone goofed when entering your reservation. Don't let them talk you
out of it once you arrive. Let us know how you end up.

135.92 | Discount - No Kids | CGHUB::OBRIEN | Yabba Dabba DOO | Mon Oct 07 1991 15:14 | 29 |
| I read this in the September '91 Consumer Reports (reprinted without
permission)
Mickey Mouse Offer
A magazine ad placed by American Express and Walt Disney World led two
readers, and us, into Confusion-land. The promotion, called Kids Go
Free, is for adults who take children to a Disney resort and charge a
four-night deluxe package on an American Express card. So far, no
questions. But the ad also says that adults traveling WITHOUT
children get $300 off. Hmmmm. If it costs $300 more to show up with
a kid, how do Kids Go Free?
We obtained price quotes from several Disney reservations people, and
received several explanations for the mystery. A typical Kids Go Free
package, we were told, costs $2266 for two adults and two children.
Without two kids? $1666, or $300 less per child.
One agent opined, "It's double occupancy. The kids share your room."
Another: "That (price) is what the computer tells us. It doesn't say
why." A third explained that what we were seing wasn't an extra
charge for children, but an extra discount for no children. The last
one sort of makes sense.
We think the best bet for parents who want to visit Disney World by
themselves, is to ask for the Kids Go Free program. Then tell the
clerk the kids are staying at home.
Welcome to Never-Never land.

"In honor of the 20th Anniversary, Annual Passholders receive special

save 50% while staying at Disney's Yacht and Beach Club, Contemporary,

Trailer Homes. Save 25% at Disney's Grand Floridian Beach Resort and Fort
wilderness Campsites. For reservations, information, and restrictions

the actual rate will be 50% off when we present our annual passport. Is it
normal for the ticket to list the full price, yet you get a discount at

still sounds too good to be true)!

135.96 | Hopefully the end of the Disney Channel Special Saga... | ROWING::FEENAN | Jay Feenan, Rdb/VMS engineering | Thu Nov 07 1991 11:30 | 70 |
| In a few earlier notes there was a mention of a Disney Channel
special. I will be leaving the this month for WDW for 10
days (7 at WDW). This past weekend the horror of not going almost became a
reality. In going to my travel agent to pay for the remaining amount
of my trip we (the travel agent and my self) were shocked to find that
the cost of the trip was about $500.00 more than expected.
By piecing together all the information in the notes file I can expand
on the problems that I ran into and Jeanne ran into (note 135.90) with
this special. A synopsis is:
the special read:
"Stay at a select Walt Disney World Resort for five nights or more, and each
adult (up to two) receives a FREE six-day unlimited Super Pass to all
seven Disney theme parks and attractions when accompanied by a child
(max of two children per room)."
Back in the April/May time frame this translated into:
- Stay at a resort for 5 or more nights at any published rate.
- Get 2 adult passes for free
- Get 2 children passes for free
At later dates this translated into:
- Stay at a disney resort for 5 or more nights at the REGULAR rate.
- Pay for the 2 childrens passes.
- Get the 2 adult passes for free
The problem arose with the initiation of a the new reservation system,
the manner in which rates were portraited and quoted and
'undertrained' employees on with his new system.
For myself, I was quoted $103.47/night (inc tax), 2 free adult passes and 2
free childs passes + pay for my other child. This would have translated
into about $858 for 7 nights (what a deal!!!) To my surprise the total
came to $1447 this weekend when I saw the reservation slip...all the
other figures...were correct (the per night figure and the deposit
figure).
How they calculated it was:
[(160*5)-(cost adult tickets)]/5 gives per night rate
(160*5)+(104*additional nights)+(childrens tickets) gives package price
[Some of the charges would change a bit depending on the time of your
stay and the information you provided (MKC discounts on the ticket
prices etc). We are staying in a trailer in FW]
Because of the notes that I kept (names of people, dates, question
asked, answers), notes kept by my travel agent and the notes in this
notes file...I could document 6 non-CRO people that talked with 4 (or
more...I had 4 names) CRO people with dates that all stated exactly my
understanding of the package. I'd like to thank all the people that
record their announcements, packages, prices paid, problems and trip reports
in this notes file. The information was very valuable in 'stating my
case'.
In the end we worked out what I thought was a reasonable price, more
than I initially thought but a heck of a lot less than the total
was...now I have the spending money that I thought. If someone else
has selected this package, I suggest that you ensure that the total
package price was what you expected, if you need anymore information
feel free to give me a call.

The conference is offering a 25% discount on admission to Disneyland so the

The current price of admission (or at least what was current three weeks
ago), is $27.50 w/o MKC, $25.50 with; so the discount you are getting from
the conference is a better discount.
However, since the MKC can be obtained free from Personnel (unless you
were talking about getting a GOLD card, which costs), you probably
might want to consider getting it anyway. Especially since the stores
at the Disneyland Hotel offer much of the same souvenirs as are in the
park, but will give you a 10% discount on them at (which the park won't).

|
Yesterday I received the latest AAA magazine in the mail and found and
interesting article in the travel section. It involves AAA
discounts at WDW.
Please see the following copy of this article, printed without permission
from AAA:

There was nothing in the article that said reservations HAD to be made
through AAA. I decdied to give AAA a call and see if I could get some
$$$$ off my reservations.
AAA said they WERE doing conversions with reservations that had been
previously made directly with WDW.
While on the phone my AAA rep called up WDW and after taking my
reservation number and membership number she checked with WDW on
the possibility of a discount.
After a minute or so she returned and said that all the discounts
for that time (described by her as a "peak period") were gone. That
caught me be surprise because the magazine HAD JUST COME IN THE MAIL.
I mentioned that if that was the case then they should not have included
that time period (June 11 - August 13) in the magazine article. I was
surprised when had first read the article and saw that time period plus
the inclusion of CBR, PO, and DL. That's what prompted me to make a
call. I thanked her for all her help, what the heck, nothing ventured,
nothing gained.
I thought about calling up later in the day and try to make bogus
reservations in late August and try to get this discount. If this
were to be successful would I be catching them in a lie?
The good news is that if you are going down this year and you are not
going during a peak period you may be able to take advantage of this
deal. Such a discount will more than pay for the price of a AAA
membership.
Remember, even if your reservations have already been made (directly
with the CRO NOT THROUGH A TRAVEL AGENT) you may still get the
discount.
If anyone tries this please let us know in here how you make out.

| Mike, I had called reservations (see my note .100) as soon as I found
out about this deal. Because the hotel was full they could not convert
my reservation (Y&BC) over to the AAA rate. They did tell me that both the
Poly and Contemporary were available at the AAA rate. My sister is
confirmed the week of Apr 17th at the Y&BC with the AAA rate with the
exception of one night, again the hotel was full on the 23rd.
What is really funny about this is that when I had originally called
the AAA office did even know anything about this deal but WDW
reservations did.
I'm going with a MKC plan -- the $$$ work out better for me.

| What intrigued me the most about this offer was the fact that the CBR,
PO, and DL were included during peak time. Do they really need to
include those three resorts for such a discount when they fill up so
fast?

| I called yesterday to try to convert my reservation to AAA discount.
There are a limited number of rooms allocated to the discount at a
time, and 3/19 to 3/26 had none available.
I agree with Mike that it is strange that the three "cheapies" are
included in this offer. Port Orleans, being smaller, is frequently
fully booked when rooms are still available at Dixie Landings and
CBR.

| I called to inquire about using the AAA discount for my reservation at
Wilderness Lodge on opening day. I could get the discount but would
have to take a less desirable room. The lady I spoke with said the
discounts ranged from 10-20% depending on the dates selected.
The bottom line was, I could save $10 !!! for a two night stay if I
took a less desirable room. I did not make the reservation change.

| Maybe they are starting to include the PO, DL, and CBR in discounts
because the all-star resorts will be cheaper.

| My faith in AAA was restored today. I had a terrible experience
getting road service one day this winter... but that's another story.
Anyway... About 2 weeks ago I reserved and confirmed a room at CBR
for 9 days in October, without the use of a travel agent or AAA.
I called AAA to see what they could do for me. I'm sure there were
a number of contributing factors, the off season probably the greatest
factor, but AAA saved me $10/night. That equates to about 20% savings
over what Joe Citizen would pay, 10% better than my MKC discount.
The reservation is for he same room, same view... they didn't even
change the reservation number.

| re .111
Have you an address or phone no. so that someone in the UK can get
this info.
I have just returned from 4 days at Eurodisney, and its given my family
at taster, and we are planning for WDW in 95 or 96, depending on the
cash situation.
Ideally I would like to stay at a WDW resort, as we did at ED, but I am
trying to compare the costs of booking a WDW resort through a holiday
package(eg Virgin holidays), or a hotel outside the MK, or hire a
villa, or book a WDW resort using the MKC card. I am trying to get as
much info as possible so we can estimate how much we will have save for
the holiday.
I also read in another note about a WDW visitors guide video, do you
know if this is available in the UK?
I will be grateful for any advice...
Dave.

We got two pictures with Mickey. We thought we only got one,
but when we went to Studio M (behind Chef Mickey's in the
Marketplace) they told us our package included 2.
So, we had the kids do one and we did one as a family.
It took no more that 15 minutes to check in, wait in line,
have photos taken and pick up photos.

135.116 | Discounts,where??? | MROA::MMERTEN | | Wed Aug 24 1994 14:48 | 13 |
| Dear Moderator,
I am not sure where this note belongs, but I am new to notes so
entered it here.
I have a question. I am plannin on going to Disneyworld in May of
'95 and am looking for discounts on tickets to the various parks. I
don't need help in looking for hotels, but we do need to rent a car. I
know that Digital no longer offers the discount to employees in the
M.K.C., but I was wondering where else I could find discounts. There
will be four adults traveling.
Thanks,
Michele

RE: 116
I just picked up my MKC membership and discount from the Hudson Ma.
Digital site last week. If your site has a logo store they should
also have the MKC membership cards. Digital still supports this.

135.119 | Fun For Sale | SWAM2::SMITH_MA | | Wed Dec 07 1994 13:47 | 13 |
| There's a company called Fun For Sale By Mail in California that sends
out direct mailers once a month offering discount tickets to theme
parks, movie theatres, etc. You can order over the phone by calling
(714) 770-8188 and using a credit card, or by sending a check to Fun
For Sale, 21791 Lake Forest Drive, suite 200, Lake Forest, CA. 92630.
The cost for Disneyland tickets are 21.50 each (a $9.50 per ticket
savings) and there is no minimum or miximum purchase requirements.
I suggest that you call and ask to be put on their mailing
list...that's free to all!

135.120 | AAA discount questions | NOVA::FEENAN | Jay Feenan - Rdb Engineering | Mon Feb 06 1995 07:48 | 14 |
| Can anyone tell me about AAA discounts. I've scanned the file and
found some info but it seems old. Someone indicated tht they are going
in May and the AAA discount was > MKC.
Specifics:
Will it be available the 23rd-29th of April?
What hotels does it apply to?
thanks in advance.

I don't know the specific answers to your question Jay, but
I suspect that the answer is that:
Yes it is offered 4/23-29.
And that the discount is offered at all the hotels (although
perhaps not at All-Star or maybe even DL, PO, or CB).
Best bet is to call and ask for it. That's all I did.
While you're at it, you should ask if the hotel is having
any discounts of its own for that time frame. I found the
following:
for Y&BC for 5/6-14:
MKC got me 10% off of full price.
AAA got me 20% off of full price.
Hotel discount got me almost 25% off of full price.
But remember, you've got to ask - they won't volunteer anything.
I think they're trained not to.

| I was also able to get the Beach Club special of $160/night for May 9-15th.
(Thanks Carol and Gary!) The cast member I talked with didn't seem to know
what discount I was talking about until I gave her the exact price that other
(unnamed) people had gotten.
I asked her what sort of special/package this was, and she said it is an
unnamed, off-season special that is sometimes available and sometimes not.
It's pretty much hit or miss as to whether it will be offered at any given
time. I definitely got the impression that if I hadn't heard about it here
and known to ask about it, it would not have been offered to me.

135.123 | How to find out the specials? | SAPPHO::DUBOIS | HONK if you've slept w/Cmdr Riker! | Tue Feb 07 1995 15:48 | 22 |
| <I definitely got the impression that if I hadn't heard about it here
<and known to ask about it, it would not have been offered to me.
Yeah, I was really surprised that I had to push for that information from
the second cast member I called. I asked her about prices for the Poly
during that time, and she really *pushed* to book me at something like $225
a night. I had said that this was too much money, and it was only after I
brought up that someone else had gotten a special deal at the other resort
that she said, "Oh, well, let me see if there's a special." "Now, excuse me,
but why didn't you look *before*?" I wondered.
At any rate, the first cast member was GREAT, so I talked to his supervisor
and told her so. After speaking with 3 other cast members since speaking with
him, I am especially glad I praised him.
I wonder, too, if there's other specials we don't hear about, and how we
can find out about them in the future *before* we pay more. I think Ashton
(my currently favorite cast member) just wanted to make my day/week since
I had told him it was my first trip *and* that it was going to be on my
birthday. :-) (he succeeded ;-) )
