    I looked for it on cassette.  Unfortunately I couldn't find it.  I
    didn't have time to try to find a salesperson to ask, so does anyone

    2.  Disney Presents A Family Christmas
    
    Both are great to listen to if you crave to be a WDW.

    I have the "soundtracks" for the Magic Kingdom/Disneyland and
    Epcot Center.  I bought these albums while Disneying in 1986.
    
    Well, they have been updated.  I just bought the CD which
    contains both soundtracks.  It's GREAT!  It now includes some
    music from Star Tours and Splash Mountain (I haven't seen
    either) and I think there's some new music from Epcot (not
    Captain EO).  I believe the old albums had the entrance theme
    from Epcot but the new ones don't.

    I read in the Disney Channel Magazine last night that there will be a
    release soon of children's songs with a carribean flavor sung by
    Sabastian (I can't remember the fellow's real name).  I so much like
    his singing in The Little Mermaid!  I can't wait to hear it.

I just read that an album (well, cassette - I don't know about other
formats) called "Sebastian" has just been released on Disney records.
It has Samuel E. Wright and Jodi Benson, the original voices of
Sebastian the crab and Ariel the mermaid from THE LITTLE MERMAID, and
features (naturally) mostly reggae music, some covers.

There are 11 songs, and only "Under the Sea" is from the movie.
Benson does 2 songs as Ariel, but Wright steals the show again.

_Entertainment Weekly_ gave it an A rating.

     I have some rather sad news for the Disney community. Howard Ashman,
who wrote the lyrics for the songs for "The Little Mermaid", died today
in New York. He was 40 years old. In addition to the Academy Award/Grammy
winning "Under the Sea" and other wonderful songs, he wrote the city song
from "Oliver and Company" and the book and lyrics for many Broadway and
Off-Broadway musicals, including "Little Shop of Horrors", "Smile", and
"God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater". He and Alan Menken (the composer) were
commissioned to write the songs and score for the next Disney animated
feature, "Beauty and the Beast", but I don't know how much of it he had
completed before he became ill last year.
     Howard was a friend of mine since Junior High School and a terrific 
person. He is going to be missed by everyone.

    Hello Disneyholics,
    			I need a bit of help in finding out the composer
    and the name of a piece of music used in Impressions de France. This is
    not going to be easy to describe but here goes, from memory I think it
    is near the beginning of the film where they show early morning mist on
    a river. The music is predominantly piano and quite fast, it gives a
    sense of dreaming or floating (well it does to me, but I might be a bit
    weird).
    
    The reason for wanting to know is quite simple, I like it, and after 
    hearing it being used on a television advert in the U.K. it reminded me 
    of the French pavilion at EPCOT where I first heard it played.

    I'd like to know the title too!  Here's some info to go by.  If you
    figure out which one it is, let us know.  I'm guessing it's the
    Saint-Sa�ns piece from the swamp scene.
    
    From Birnbaum's 1991 guide p. 142 (describing Impressions de France):
    
        All this is even more appealing thanks to a superbly melodic sound
    	track almost entirely made up of the music of French classical
    	composers such as Jacques Offenbach (1819-1880), known for his
    	operettas; Charles Camille Saint-Sa�ns (1835-1921), a conductor,
    	pianist, organist, and composer celebrated for his lush melodies;
    	Claude Debussy (1862-1918), who did with sound what the

Recently I saw the 50th anniversary re-release of Walt Disney's Fantasia.  This
inspired me to pull out of storage the 3 record album soundtrack, which, since
I've had now for close to 25 years is pretty scratched.

What the heck!  the soundtrack has been re-released on CD so I bought it.  But
to my disappointment, the posters (pages the size of the jacket with one scene
from each selection) that can with the vinal record set are not included with 
the CDs nor is there any mention of how to obtain them if they still are 
available.

Is this jacket of any value?  Are the vinal disks of any value?  Where can I 
find out?  I'd love to have each of the posters framed.

    I'm entering this for a friend of mine who is getting married in
    November and then honeymooning in Walt Disney World. She wants to have
    "When You Wish Upon A Star" as her last dance at the wedding. 
    
    She wants to listen to various versions of the song to decide which
    one to use. So far, she's heard Ringo Starr from Disney's Stay Awake
    album and Linda Ronstadt's version from one of her "oldies" albums.
    
    Does anyone out there know of any other versions of this song? I'd
    appreciate any leads.

I can make you a audio recording from the Pinocchio soundtrack off of the video

The quality isn't very good due to the age of the flick.  In my opinion, the
soundtracks were not enhanced when the classics were transferred to 
commercial video.

    If I'm not mistaken, the soundtrack to "Pinocchio" is also currently 
    available on CD.  I believe I've seen it at Lechmere's though I don't
    remember the manufacturer (I don't think it was Disney records).  Tower
    Records would also be a good place to look.
    
    That is, of course, if you want the original.  I know there are several
    instrumental recordings available (like on "Disney Spectacular" by the
    Cincinnati Pops) but I don't know if this is what you're looking for...

    I saw on ET last night that a new album is coming out that features
    some of today's pop stars re-doing some of the Disney classic tunes. 
    It's called "Simply Mad About the Mouse".  Highlights include Billy
    Joel singing "When You Wish Upon a Star" (from "Pinocchio"); Michael
    Bolton singing "A Dream Is Just a Wish Your Heart Makes" (from
    "Cinderella"); Harry Connick, Jr. singing "The Bare Necessities" (from
    "The Jungle Book"); and LL Cool J rapping (!!) "Who's Afraid of the Big
    Bad Wolf" (from "The Three Little Pigs").  There were some other
    "names" on it as well but I don't remember who they are.  ET played
    some snippets from each of these four and they all sounded pretty good.
    
    The album is due out today and the video will be out later this week.
    
    Sounds like a "must buy" for us Disney-holics...

    I saw Harry Connick Jr in concert earlier this year and he mentioned
    this album before singing "The Bare Necessities".  Aren't all these
    people on the same record label?
    
    This is the first I've heard of it since then.  I guess it should be
    out in the UK in the not too distant future...can't wait 'cos as
    well as being a disney-holic I'm also into Harry Connick Jr and Billy Joel!

    I'm surprised I haven't seen more about this album - but I'm behind in
    this notesfile, so maybe it just wasn't placed in the music note!
    
    I love this tape!  I can't stand Harry Connick, Jr., but even I love
    his rendition of "The Bare Necessities."  If I need a lift (like I will
    on the way home tonight!), I listen to this tape.  I didn't get the
    video, but have been tempted.  I even like LL Cool J's rap of "Who's
    Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf" and I have never liked rap (must be getting
    old!).  The last three songs on the album are my least favorite ("A
    Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" by Bolton, "Some Day My Prince Will
    Come/One Love" by En Vogue, and "Mad About the Wolf" by somebody).  The
    rest is great!
    
    As mentioned, Billy Joel sings "When You Wish Upon a Star" and Connick
    sings "The Bare Necessities."  The Gipsy Kings sing "There are No
    Strings on Me," Ric Ocaskek (sp?) sings "Zippidy Doo Dah," Bobby
    McFerrin sings "The Siamese Cat Song," Soul II Soul sings "Kiss the
    Girl."  Did I get them all?  I think so.  There's also an instrumental
    intro that's a medley of sorts.
    
    Anyone have the video? (I'm resisting buying it because of Harry
    Connick, Jr.  I don't know why I dislike him so much.  I have the same
    reaction to Martha Stewart!)

    Can anyone help, Ive just returned from EuroDisney, had a wonderful
    time and bought a Mickey Mouse watch which plays "Its a small world"
    its driving me crazy as I cant remember the lyrics.  Can anyone help?

    Those of you who suscribe to The Disney Channel should read this
    month's Channel Guide. There's an article on the Sherman Brothers
    (who did the music for "The Jungle Book").
    
    The article talks about Walt's concern with music and how important
    music was in setting the mood the animators were striving for in
    different scenes.
    
    I also found some trivia type information like can you name the Disney
    song that has The Beach Boys doing background vocals?

Does anyone know what Disney flick the song "Ten Feet Off the Ground" is from?

I think it's performed by Louis Prima (or maybe Louis Armstrong).

It's sort of a a Dixie Swing number.

    
    If I'm not mistaken, that's from " The One and Only Genuine Original
    Family Band, " a Disney film done in the 1960s with Walter Brennan.
    Interestingly enough, featured in supporting roles were then-ingenunes
    -now-major-stars-and-significant-others Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn.
    Not a great move, but I * DO * like that song !

    Disney (actually EPCOT) music that will probably never get on CD is
    music from Voices of Liberty. I got a cassette in 1990 with them
    singing on it but obviously would prefer a CD.
    
    If I could snap my fingers and work anywhere in WDW it would be as one
    of The Voices of Liberty.

    I asked about this and was told that a CD was made, but there is a
    dispute over Disney's right to market it.  They are hoping to settle
    the details within the next few months.
    
    However, I talked to one of the VOL singers and he told me that you
    could by a CD  of the Voice's of Liberty.  However, they cannot call
    themselves Voices of Liberty on the CD because Disney owns the rights
    to that name.
    
    There is a CD called "Liberty Voices" and it is distributed by
    a company called Clydsdale out of Nashvile.  He told me that it is the
    real VOL singers.  He recommended that I try getting it from Christian
    Bookstores, or as a special order from a record shop.

    Dis anyone catch the Disney Special on Wednesday evening? It was hosted
    by A. Lansbury and B. Marsalis.
    
    The last 15 minutes were on Aladdin.
    
    They showed some footage of songs that "never made the final cut" for
    Snow White.
    
    All in all a pretty good show.....saw a bit of ToonTown....I'm hoping
    The Disney Channel will do a little of that....I expect The WDW Easter
    Show will focus on DL's ToonTown.

    I caught most of this last week too.  Some of it was pretty interesting
    but I just wish the network Disney specials would feel less like a
    commercial.  I mean, the films that were promoted the most were "Beauty
    and the Beast" (now on home video!!), "Aladdin" (see it in theatres!!),
    and "Snow White" (coming this summer to a theatre near you!!).  
    
    Anyways, cynicism aside, they did show some clips that you don't
    generally see.  Walt himself talking about the music in "Snow White"
    was a nice touch.  And I wanted to see more of the jazz 'toons
    introduced by Marsalis (anyone know if the one with the bee is on home
    video??).

    Okay, Ed, let's see if I can answer your questions...
    
    I got the info from a couple of sources, an article in the Globe a week
    or so ago and from the rec.arts.disney newsgroup.
    
    Great Woods is in Mansfield, MA and it is an outdoor pavilion (picture
    a really big Theatre of the Stars with a roof).  I've been to a few
    concerts there and haven't noticed any problems with the acoustics.  I
    think it'll be fine for this kind of show.
    
    You can buy tickets from Ticketmaster.  Their phone number is
    617-931-200.  They do charge a handling fee and Great Woods normally
    tacks on a $1 parking fee on all tickets.
    
    I just called Ticketmaster and the prices they gave me were $35, $25,
    $20, and $15 for pavilion seating and $10 for lawn seats.  I imagine
    the $35 and $25 are the prices for adults and $20 and $15 are for the
    kids.  I don't know how keen I'd be on sitting on the lawn because it's
    further out in the back of the pavilion and I'm not sure how well you'd
    be able to see from back there.
    
    I would consider buying tickets as soon as I could.  Ticketmaster
    generally doles them out on a first-come, first-served basis so you
    don't pick where you're actually sitting but the sooner you call, the
    better your chances are at getting good seats.
    
    Rain.  Well, unless you're on the lawn or sitting on the edge of the
    pavilion, it shouldn't matter because the roof should protect you from
    the elements.
    
    I don't know about motels/hotels, but Great Woods is located at Routes
    140 and 495 and I imagine there are some located nearby.

There *used* to be a wonderful Sheraton in Mansfield.  I was on a business
trip, and don't remember what it costs per night.  The Patriots players 
used to stay there for home games (Foxboro).  It was very nice when I 
was there (many moons ago).

And I like Great Woods a lot.  I've seen the Pops and Bruce Hornsby (twice)
and had great seats and heard great music each time.

The Sheraton Mansfield is now the Mansfield Host Hotel, a division of Marriott.
 There is also a nice Days Inn and also a Quality Inn.  All are within 1/2 mile
of each other in the route 140 Industrial park.

If you want a bite to eat stop at the Honeydew donut shop nearby.  It's my
uncle's. :-)

    In the song "Friend Like Me"  does Robbin Williams sing
    
    "can your friends do this , can your friend do that"?  or is it
    "can your friends do this,  do your friends do that"?

    I checked the liner notes this morning.  They list the lyrics as:

    However, I am pretty certain Robin Williams sings it as:

    I carefully listened to the cd this morning before checking
    the liner notes and was certain it was "can" and not "do."
    Maybe you should write to Robin and ask him what he sang.

    Telarc just released "The Magical Music of Disney".
    
    The CD contains four musical suites (The Lion King (6 songs), Aladdin
    (5), The Little Mermaid (7), and Beauty and the Beast(5)). The music is 
    performed by Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops
    Orchestra, with the Indiana University Singing Hoosiers.
    
    Many of the chorale performers from The Lion King Soundtrack are on
    hand for some of the songs from TLK.
    
    One of the more interesting cuts from the CD is the 1:49 Introduction 
    from The Little Mermaid. This piece sounds almost EXACTLY as the 
    music and arrangement played at the beginning of The Adventures of The
    Little Mermaid at the Disney/MGM Studios.

    I just picked up an enjoyable CD called Heigh-Ho Mozart. It contains
    14 tracks from different Disney movies performed in the style of
    various composers. (Hence the title, Heigh-Ho from Snow White is 
    performed in the style of Mozart).  It's a great recording and the
    interpretation of the pieces is quite good. I enjoyed it and thought it
    might be a way to introduce kids to classical music though some
    familiar songs. It's definitely NOT the original Disney music but
    the composer's style they selected for the music is definitely suitable
    to each song. Although I would have picked Johann Strauss for _When 
    You Wish Upon a Star_ rather than Richard Strauss ;-) 
    
    I found it at Tower Records in the classical collections section.
    
    I don't have the CD with me but it contains arrangements for 
    Colors of the Wind, Heigh Ho, Second Star on the Right from Peter Pan,
    Under the Sea, Prince Ali, Beauty and the Beast, Who's Afraid of the
    Big Bad Wolf, When you Wish Upon a Star, With a Song in Your Heart,
    Winnie the Pooh, The Mainstreet Electrical Parade (in the Style of
    Vivaldi no less :-), Can You Feel the Love Tonight and a few others.
