Don't miss STAR TOURS!!! A flight simulation ride using the STAR
WARS theme and characters. Pirates of the Carribean is slightly
different and better. The location of the haunted house is different
and Disneyland has a New Orleans type area nearby that I don't remember
at WDW. Otherwise, they are similar and both worth the trip.

46.3 | Stick with the "E-coupon" attractions | RECAP::SEAGLE | Disneyland junkie! | Thu Mar 09 1989 18:55 | 29 |
| Yes, Star Tours should be your first stop. Get to the park an hour
before the stated opening time and be the first on this ride or
you'll be sorry.
I disagree with the Unofficial Guide and I think the Haunted Mansion
is better at Disneyland (slight edge to WDW *indeed* ;-( ).
Pirates of the Caribbean is *so* different at Disneyland that when
I ride it at WDW I keep asking myself "how can they call this the
same ride?". It is an order of magnitude better at Disneyland than
WDW. A "must see" in my book.
The Monorail, in Tomorrowland, is a *ride* as well as a transportation
system at Disneyland and you might consider it as well although
it is not as critical.
America Sings is "cute", but it just doesn't do much for me. I
wish they had kept the GE Carousel of Progress at Disneyland instead
of porting it off to WDW in favor of America Sings. Anyway, it
is unique to the park, so if you want all the "new" stuff be sure
to put it on your list too.
If you are in to roller-coaster type attractions, be sure to catch
Splash Mountain and The Matterhorn Bobsleds as these are unique
to Disneyland.
Not much new information here, but FWIW that is my opinion,
David.

Dave,
I've never been to Disneyland, but didn't they get rid of the coupon
system and went to the passport system around the same time as WDW did
in '82? I could of sworn I been seeing one price admission to
Disneyland for a while now in the various guides etc.

| RE: .4
Yes, Disneyland went to "Passports" in 1980 like everything else.
I intended my comment as a tongue-in-cheek remark and regret any
confusion this may have caused.
BTW, when I was last at Disneyland the one day Passports were about
$26.00 and I am certain they have gone up $0.50-$1.00 since then.

Are they any good in Disneyland or should I save them for my next
trip south?

| FWIW, I *loved* Disneyland! I wen't there when on a business trip
(Anaheim SigGraph '87) and had one day in the park from sunup to
sundown and found it great! There are subtle little differences
everywhere that made it a whole new adventure.
Previous to this I had been to WDW several times, as a resort guest and
could qualify for tour-guide status with respect to locations and
general knowledge of the park. Disneyland was just different enough to
throw me a little out of my element and I found that most exciting!
To actually include functional knowlegde :-)...
o Hearty agreement w/ previous replies insofaras the Pirates of the
Cariabean is far superior at Disneyland.
o Caribbean Plaza is replaced by ?New Orleans Square? and look for
a little exhibit hall above the Pirates Entrance which contains
an art gallery thats worth a few moments perusal. [In particular
a model of Sleeping Beauty's Castle].
o First stop should be Star Tours. I arrived via monorail from
Disneyland Hotel (where I stayed) at opening +5 minutes and still
had a 1 hr wait..but worth it!
o I also liked the Haunted Mansion but don't put it as "far
superior", but you should see it.
Hope that helps, I couldn't resist commenting (even though I added
nothing new) :-(.

| Re: .7
It should say on the ticket but I believe they are good at either park.
I know that the tickets have no expiration (last time down we used some
days from 3yrs previous, it was frightening to see the difference in
prices from then (on the old tickets) to now (on the new tickets)).

46.10 | Splash Mountain, and other Disneyland Only's | CLUSTA::LUND | | Fri Jan 19 1990 07:57 | 22 |

Disneyland now also has Splash Mountain...., a group of us went on it
a couple of times during Decus Night (Fall '89). If you want to get
soaked, have two people in the front section of the canoe... The first
time we only had one person, and you didn't wet, but the second time,
I was one of the two in the front of the canoe, and was quite soaked
whent he ride ended! Heard last week that it will be added to MK at
some point in the future. Star Tours was great also, I think we did
that two or three times, and also the Matterhorn is a good ride.
Disneyland also has more childrens rides. I was looking forward to
Pirates of the Caribbean, but that was one of the closed for repairs
ride in Fall '89....
This won't help the person who wrote the message last year, but
hopefully others going out to Disneyland.
Also The area around Tom Sawyers Island has more activities, including
canoes, and there is an outdoor theatre that has activities also, some
of these were not open at night for DECUS.

46.11 | Which castle is which?? | CADSE::AWILLIAMS | The fluke is the duke of soul...YEAH... | Tue Mar 06 1990 14:55 | 14 |
| Not exactly sure if this belongs in this note, but it's the closest
thing I could find...
Anyways, this past weekend, I was in a discussion with someone about
WDW and Disneyland and their differences. One of the things I noted
was that one park houses Cinderella's castle and the other has Sleeping
Beauty's. At the time, I couldn't remember which had which (though
now, I think Disneyland is the one with Cinderella's castle). But the
person I was talking to didn't believe me...
Can anyone out there confirm that I'm not off my rocker (and tell me
for sure which park has which castle)??

| re: .73
Actually, now I'm confused... I just remembered that last time I was
at WDW, we ate at King Stefan's Banquet Hall in the castle and
Cinderella was wandering from table to table so WDW must have
Cinderella's castle...
Help me... help me... somebody please help me...

| Skip,
Cinderella Castle is at WDW and is 180 feet in height, which is 100
feet taller than Sleeping Beauty's castle at Disneyland.
Claude
BTW Len moved the notes from another topic, that's why .12 has a
reference to a now non-existent .73.

| Cinderella's Castle is in Florida, Sleeping Beauty's is in California.
You can tell the difference in pictures because the towers on Sleeping
Beauty's are shorter and rounder (larger in diameter), while
Cinderella's are taller and "pointier".
Now who knows who's castle is in Tokyo Disneyland? And how about
Euro-Disneyland?

Off onto a slight tangent. Was the castle in Disneyland always
Sleeping Beauty's Castle?? Or was it Cinderella's Castle when the park
first opened and then Cindy moved to a better neighborhood when WDW
opened??

Skip,
It was always Sleeping Beauty's castle at Disneyland. I know you were
hoping for some story along the lines of dismantling and reassembling
or maybe, you should of seen that barge etc.

46.17 | Le Chateau de la Belle au Bois Dormant | WOTVAX::BATTY | The Seaweed is Always Greener... | Thu Mar 08 1990 09:08 | 14 |
| According to the Euro Disney Annual Report, the castle forming the
entrance to Fantasyland will be "Le Chateau de la Belle au Bois
Dormant", inspired by "Sleeping Beauty". It is being used as the
symbol of Euro Disneyland, and is depicted on the covers of all
the official bumf, either an artist's impression or relief
embossed. It is always shown as being pastel pink with blue-grey
turrets, and very ornate.
I've got withdrawal symptoms already, and we're not planning to go
again until 1991. Although Legoland has a "land" in the name, I
don't think it's going to satisfy the need, and we'll probably
have to give in and return later this year.

46.19 | DL vs MK ? | BAHTAT::BELL | SWAS Leeds 845 2214 | Thu Feb 14 1991 12:42 | 11 |
| I am visiting California next month, arrive LA March 14th. I took my
family to Florida 2 years ago, we were at WDW when MGM opened, and I
would like to know how Disneyland compares to MK at WDW. Are there
different rides or are the two parks basically the same, would it be
worth our while going to Disneyland, apart from doing some of the
things we liked in WDW again. Also what are the costs of admitance and
when is the best day to go, I guess that weekdays are better than
weekends.
Thanks

| Richard,
Right off the bat I can think of The Matterhorn and Splash Mountain as
two attractions in DL which are not in WDW. YOu may also want to take
in "Pirates.." to see if it differs from TMK in WDW.
Some thoughts.

some heavy re-fitting and closed down. So was the skyway and
a few other rides.
