Well the extra come in really when you don't purchase a vacation plan,
since when you stay on property, but done visit the parks, you resort
ID allows you to have free use of the buses and trams (Vacation Plans
which include admission already have this feature). Also by staying on
property you are allowed to make reservation in advance of those
staying off property, and in relation to the restaurants in Epcot, this
means you can make a reservation at one upto 2 days in advance, where
the offsite visitor can only make same day reservation. It was nice to
leave the making of the reservation to the quest services clerk located
in the lobby, and have a note when you return confirming your dinner
reservation.
Other extras include the Marshmallow excursion in Fort Wilderness
during the summer, as well as a moonlight cruise on Bay Lake, these are
no available to the off site guest.
Other Extra is that staying on property, you newer leave the magic and
go back to the real world, the resort are nice and isolated from each
other and there is no traffic noise ala International Drive at night.

| An additional extra of staying on the property is the ability to
charge most everything to your room and paying in one shot at the
end of your stay. Of course for some people this could be very
dangerous.
You can charge almost anywhere in the World, with the exception
of counter service restaurants, and inside the Magic Kingdom.

you can make your reservation for the Hoop-dee-doo or Polynesian Lua

Keep your reservation confirmation receipt. When my family went in April, 1985,
we had made Hoop-dee-doo reservations in May, 1984 but when we went to get the
actual tickets, there was no record of the reservation. Once we showed the
person the confirmation receipt, they were very courteous and apologetic and
we received our tickets. I haven't made a reservation for the meal shows
recently, I assume they still send confirmation receipts?

Actually they don't give you a receipt for the dinner shows just the
lodging, you are responsible to write down the confirmation number for
the dinner show. Also whenever I booked the actually vacation plan
I wanted (seperate from reserving the room for the date you want) I
would reconfirm my dinner reservations. Note that the earlier you book
a dinner show the better seating you will get (first come first serve)
since they assign you your table when you book. However if you need to
alter the number of people going you could end up with a table in the
rear.

Well they must of changed their system, back in '84 and '87 all I got
was the receipt for the Lodging, none for the Hoop-Dee-Doo, Top Of the
World, Polynesean Review or the melvin the Moose Show.

This was the case for the Character breakfeats at teh Polynesean and
Contemporay for quite a while now since it was just a buffet and no
specific seating time, it it also for the Melvin the Moose show at
Pioneer Hall and the Character Breakfeast at the Empress Lilly? (these
two had 2 seating each morning.

Also another benefit in staying on site, is that if you have your own
car or rental, by showing your Resort ID, your allowed to use roads
that the general public doesn't have access to, thereby saving some
time/hassles.
For example, the shuttle bus route from the Villa's to either FW or
MK., take Buena Vista Drive to the back (Cast member) entrance about a
half mile past Community Drive (road where most of the Villa's are off
of) on your left, show your resort ID at the gate and turn left on
Vista Boulevard and after a mile or so, Fort Wilderness will be on your
right and continuing on, you'll exit onto World Drive just after the
toll booths you get the idea. What neat is by taking this route you go
by the WED offices (the design arm of Disney), the telephone
communication building, Laundry and assorted other buildings that
support the functions of WDW, of course you can't just go in these but
it neat to see the areas behinh the magic.

Well, I just made my reservations for Hoop-d-doo and the Luau just
a few weeks ago and received my "hardcopy" confirmations last Saturday.
Not sure when you made your's, maybe they changed just recently.
Give the central reservations a call-back and mention that a friend
just got "their" hardcopy confirmations.
Granted, this is not the same as it was in '86. At that time, when
I made reservations, I also was told the "reservation numbers" over
the phone and did not receive hard confirmations.
But then in 86, you could also make Character Breakfast reservations
and get reservation numbers, and No-waits on the day of the
reservation. This time, (2 weeks ago), its first come, first

They serve a form of French Toast whose center is hollowed out and filled with
bananas, with a crispy cinnamon outer layer. It is out of this world, but not
for those on a diet. We always get it at Tangeroa Terrace (at the Polynesian

By the way, they sell a "Mickey" cookbook at most of the shops with recipes of

Comments: The place was beautiful, with all the amenities of
any other WDW hotel; each lodge grouping has its own
pool, plus a main pool for the whole complex, large
playground for the children, biking trails, etc.
And the price was great! $65.00 per night. The only
differnence they noticed between this hotel and the
others, was that the rooms were smaller...I can live
with that...I mean, how much time does anyone spend
in their room while their in Disney World anyway????

| We will be making our 14th trip to Disneyworld in November.
We have stayed at every hotel excluding Polynesian and Fort
Wilderness. Of course we haven't made it to the Floridian
(big bucks) either.
We have reservations for the Carribean Resort in November. Any
hotel INSIDE Disney is super. Once you stay INSIDE, you never
want a hotel outside. Carribean Resort prices are $65 for parking
lot view, $75 for garden view and $85 for pool view. Once you make
your reservation, they will send you a brochure.
We have never had problems making hotel reservations. Although
the sooner the better. If they don't have what you want, take
another reservation elsewhere and call back in a week and see if
you can change. If not, in another week. Reservations change
daily.
If you love to camp, Fort Wilderness is for you. But it is "off
the beaten path". DOES ANYONE ELSE AGREE?

Sorry, but it only pays to reserve early to guarantee you get the
date's you want. When it comes time to book the plan, and Disney only
let's you book the plan when the vacation plans for the year you are
reserving for comes out, you end up paying the current vacation plan
rates for the year you go. So in reality you can only get the best
rates for the year by booking your vacation plan as soon as they come
out (ie. if you go in November book in January) in case they decide to
raise vacation plan rates later in the year (which I never seen them do
yet, however I have seen them rate lodging rates

Yes but if you had booked the vacation plan in January as well (plan
prices come out mid December, and vacation plan rate increases take
effect the following Jan. 1st) and made a partial payment I think you
get locked in, I have yet to see vacation plan rate increase over the
course of a given year (just in December for the new year). If however
you book a room but don't plan to purchase a vacation plan and pay for
room, admission's, meals etc seperately as you go, then you will get
hit with any increases. You just can't book the vacation plan when the
time of booking and arrival are not in the same calendar year. (not
sure how they handle booking a plan late in the year with arrival early
January?)

In December, I received the news of the 1989 rates. I also

But if I make a change to the reservation, such as change the

to use a private car to get to Epcot or MK, than bus?
- About the breakfast menu: Much variety available? OR is the

- Lunch/Dinner: I've heard that the CBR has a large open restaurant,

Last year we stayed in FT. Wilderness for a week. After the

Our first impression was that it was going to be complicated.

| We spent 5 days at the Carribean Beach Resort at New Year's. The
rooms are very nice. There are a number of complexes, each with
its own theme. The themes are Carribean Islands. Each Complex has
a pool and laundry area. The main building has a shop, game room,
and food service. The food is all self service. You can get Pizza
delivered to your room. However, if you are close enough, you can
order it ans pick it up.
Behind the main building is the main pool, which includes a water
slide. There is also an outdoor bar.
In addition, there is a lake where you can rent boats.
The bus system is wonderful, there are a number of different buses
depending upon where you are going. They tend to run every 15 to
20 minutes.
The only problem that we had was with the maid service, given that
the resort is new and the time that we were there, I guess that
one can live with a few problems.
By the way the Carribean Beach is right behind the Countries in
Epcot. In fact you can see the Fireworks at night from the Main
pool.

and loved it!!! We are trying to take advantage of the reasonable
rates at CBR b we are concerned about it being super crowded since
the rates are so cheap. Yet from our brochure on all the Disney
World Resorts, it says at the CBR the lake alone is 43 acres while
at the Polynesian, the whole resort is only 23 acres. CBR must
be BIG! I'm sure the atmosphere isn't as elegant as the Polynesian,
but for 1/2 the price, I'll VISIT the Polynesian when I need
atmosphere!
We are looking forward to our stay at the CBR!!! Any and all
information on the resort is welcome!
FYI - Our travel agent called the CBR last week and they said their
rates are now $85/night for Garden View and $95/night for
Deluxe Garden view. They told her those were the only 2 rates
they offer. The difference between the two is in the Deluxe
room, you would be looking over the lake and in the Garden View
you are looking towards other parts of the hotel resort.

If you mean from the Carribean Beach Resort, WDW transportation will be

Go! When I called to make the reservation they told me I could
not use my MKC Card because it was during their high season and
you cannot use it then. They have 3 types of rooms: The pool view
at $95.00 a night, the landscape view at $85.00 a night, or the
parking lot view at $69.00 a night. We opt for the landscape view
which came to $92.50 a night with tax. They require you to pay
for one night's deposit to ensure everything.
They also told me that these rates were the 89 rates and that the
90 rates might be higher and I would have to pay the additional
fee.
FYI the lady on the phone said that all 3 types of rooms were still
available but they were filling up at a moderate speed. She said
they expected to fill most rooms before August because April

The only problem that I had was that the beds were REAL FIRM! Also,
since our 2 little girls were sharing a bed, I was afraid that
they would fall off the bed (the bed is somewhat high off the
floor) but that never happened, thank goodness. The hotel also
had some nice touches, like thick towels, little bottle of shampoo
and soap with the mickey mouse logo, etc.
Also, while we were there they were still doing construction (Aruba
and Jamaica are suppose to open up this fall.) One thing I would
advise is not to eat at the food emporium since it is really just
a fast food place and the food is not all that great. For the
price that you pay at the food emporium, you would do better to
go to the Red Lobster restaurant at the Crossroad (?) Mall
(it's not too far from the hotel), especially if you have kids
with you since the value is pretty good.

| Just a quick question.
I hear all these rates ($69-95) for the CBR and I'm confused.
In the MKC brochure I'm looking at right now it shows the 1989 4-night
plan to be $285/per adult for 2 adults. That's $570 for 4 nights or
$142.50 per night.
This deal includes 4-day passes, a dinner, and some other things.
If you purchase a 4-day pass in the Disney store at the Peasant Lane
Mall you would probably spend about $90 for each one. Combine that with
a mid-priced room at about $80 a night and instead of spending $570 for
4 nights you spend maybe about $500.
Does this sound correct?
The big question...when you book a room are admissions to the park
included? Can you book a room at a different rate if you already have
tickets?
Thanks,

as its laid out (4 nights, 4 days admissions, 4 b/l's, 2 d's, 1
attraction, etc..) or not. If you already had admissions to the park
it would probably be best to purchase everything else seperately and
pay just the room cost.

12.41 | Comparisons | COEM::SCOPA | The Major | Thu Sep 14 1989 11:13 | 52 |
| Here is a cost comparison for a week at WDW for 4 people using a MKC
plan and not using the plan.
7 nights @ $65 - 85 per room = $455 - $595
4 (5-day) tickets @$112 = $448 $448
---- ----
Total cost (not including tax) $903 $1043
According to my Magic Kingdom Guide the same trip under the 4-night
plan would run:
Room $285 - $329 per adult
Jr. $139 - $139 per junior child
$ 65 - $ 85 per room per extra night
Room 2 adults @$285-$329 = $570 - $658
2 jrs. @$139-$139 = $178 - $178
3 extra nights @$ 65-$ 85 = $195 - $255
---- ----
Totals $943 $1091
Now subtract the ticket value - $448 $ 448
----- -----
Price of room/extras - tickets $495 $ 643
cost per day ($ 70) ($ 92)
Non-Plan $903 $1043
Plan $943 $1091
So for an extra $40 you get over $100 worth of "activities".
You can't lose whichever way you go.
Assuming my math is correct this illustrates that the two ways of
going are super close and there are advantages to both.
Those who can purchase their tickets before going down to Fla. can
opt for the non-plan and not worry about that extra $400+ that comes
along with the cost of the room. Or you can take advantage of the
package plan and get those "extras".
This info only holds for the CBR and reflects 1989 prices only.

Sure. As soon as I enter the note in the conference I find a mistake.
The cost for 2 juniors is $278 not $178.
Now there is more of a difference: non-Plan $ 903 - $1043
Plan $1043 - $1191
---- -----
Diff $ 140 $ 148
That may sway some people's decision.

12.45 | detailed report on CBR | TLE::KARAM | | Fri Dec 01 1989 09:50 | 155 |
|
My family and I spent 11 enjoyable nights, Nov 8th thru the 18th, at the
Caribbean Beach Resort in the Barbados village. We highly recommend staying at
the CBR, especially if the nightly cost is a concern. Our prior stays have been
at 2 different on-site villas, so we can't compare the CBR with the
Contemporary, Poly, or Disney Inn.
****************************************************
About the room:
The room itself is not extremely roomy, but we were comfortable with it. There
are 2 double beds which are, as someone mentioned earlier, fairly high off of
the floor. There is a round table in the room with 2 chairs around it. The
dresser has 3 full width drawers on the bottom and the top has 2 cabinet doors.
Behind the doors there are 2 1/2 width drawers, a storage shelf, and a TV.
Between the 2 beds there is a small night table with a telephone on it and a
remote control for the TV. Overhead in the middle of the room there is a
nice, efficient ceiling fan.
At the far end of the room are 2 sinks and adequate counter space around them.
If you need a roomy bath room, this is not the place for you. The bathroom is
very small and basic, containing the toilet and tub/shower. There is just
enough room to open the door into it.
Each day 4 bath towels, 2 hand towels and 3 face cloths are left in the room.
For use with swimming we were told to call housekeeping and request extra
towels. We did this the first 2 times we needed towels for swimming. After
that we left one note for the housecleaning lady, her name is on a card on
the sink counter, asking her to leave 4 extra bath towels that we could use
when we went swimming. From that day on, she always left us 4 extra bath
towels.
We were very pleased with the housekeeping services every day. When we returned
from our daily excursions, the beds were always made up, the rugs had been
vacuumed each day and the bathroom/sinks cleaned.
We had a lagoon view room for 1 night and a garden view the other 10 nights.
Both rooms were non-smoking, second floor rooms in Barbados. Our only gripe
about the room was that the toilet was very noisy after it was flushed. We
quickly got into the habit of closing the bathroom door after flushing.
****************************************************
About the villages:
There are 5 villages that make up the CBR. They are located around the lake,
I think it is called Barefoot Bay. Each village has a different color for
the siding and a different roof color. Each has its own bus stop. The order,
in a clock-wise direction, in which the villages are arranged and the order
in which the buses stop are Martinique, Old Port Royale (food & shops, more
details later), Trinidad 1, Trinidad 2, Jamaica, Aruba, and Barbados. There
is a promenade, I think it is 1.4 miles, which circles the lake proper and
passes by all of the villages except Trinidad 2. Trinidad 2 is on one side
of the lake while the other side is currently empty. There is a bridge over
the lake with a road passing between the 2 Trinidad villages.
A walk around the promenade is a must, especially at night. There are benches
along the promenade that you can use if you get tired or just want to gaze off
into space. There was 1 dark region between Aruba and Barbados where you are
walking on a wooden portion of the promenade through some trees. It appeared
that the lights on the bridge had not been installed yet.
Each village has laundry facilities, with a charge of $.75 per wash load and
$.50 per dryer load. We bought a bottle of wisk at the grocery store, but they
do have a vending machine with soaps. The laundry, at least in Barbados and
I'd expect the other villages, is adjacent to the pool. There was also a soda
vending machine in the laundry area, $.75 a can.
The landscaping was gorgeous, as it seems to be at all of the Disney facilities.
There were flowers everywhere and people watering/grooming them early each
morning.
****************************************************
About Old Port Royale:
Inside Old Port Royale you will find the food court, a game room, and a
trading post (gift shop), bike shop, boat yard, and main swimming pool. If
you must keep up with what is happending in the world, there are papers
available at OPR.
Old Port Royale is nestled between Martinique and Trinidad 1, so walking from
either of those villages is fairly short. Jamaica and Aruba are across the
lake from OPR, but don't fear, between Jamaica and Aruba there is a bridge
across to OPR. The bridge is also the access to Parrot Cay Island which
has some play sets for smaller children and 3 or 4 large cages with parrots.
It is a leisurely stroll from Barbados to OPR and a longer walk from Trinidad
2.
The food court was open from 7am to 10pm, with the Bakery open from 6:30 on.
I'd assume the hours change based on when the parks open.
The food shops include:
Cinnamon Bay Bakery - you want to fill that sweet tooth, try here
we enjoyed the cinnamon rolls and fruit filled cinnamon rolls
Royale Pizza and Pasta Shop -
we tried the pizza and thought it compared to Domino's or
Pizza Hut. Not many choices of toppings, I think plain cheese,
pepporoni, and a combination
Port Royale Hamburger Shop -
our son tried their Caribbean burger with Jamaican seasonings
and pineapple. He couldn't taste the seasoning. Our kids
enjoyed the chicken strips.
Oriental Cargo -
we decided on our next to last day that this was the place
to get breakfast from. They had a buffet that my wife and I
would each get and split with the kids. We each got a coffee,
a container of milk, a snack size cereal, a cup of fresh fruit,
container of fresh orange juice, bacon, sausage, scrambled
eggs, french toast, and a bisquit. I think it was $6.5 each.
I tried their beef with broccoli, it tasted fine, what there
was of it.
Montego's Market - hot and cold sandwiches
Bridgetown Broiler - marinated broiled chicken, beef and chicken
fajitas and taco salad
Outside of Old Port Royale there is a bus stop. If you are going to Typhoon
Lagoon or the shopping village, you have to catch the bus at this stop.
The bike and boat shop opened at 10, I don't know when they closed. We didn't
rent bikes so I don't know what the rates were. We did rent paddle boats, $5
per half hour, and toobies, $9 per half hour. To rent, you must show a resort
ID card. They also had a couple of power boat and a few larger floteboats.
****************************************************
About the pools:
There are 6 pools in the villages with a larger pool, the only one with a
lifeguard, at Old Port Royale. The main pool was scheduled to be open to,
I think, 12 midnight.
They allow the use of floatation devices, but they must be from the CBR. There
is no charge for their use, just a card showing you are a resort guest. They
can be picked up at the boat yard across from Old Port Royale.
****************************************************
MISC:
In the evening, you can see the fireworks from Illuminations. EPCOT is
literally across the street from the resort.
We were happy with the buses. There were no waits at the CBR for longer than
10 minutes. We did get on the buses at either Martinique or OPR and not at
the stop at Barbados. The CBR is very close to EPCOT, DISNEY/MGM, TYPHOON
LAGOON, PLEASURE ISLAND, and WALT DISNEY WORLD SHOPPING VILLAGE. The long
ride is to the TTC. To me, the long rides now are from the Poly, Contemporary,
Disney Inn, and Fort Wilderness.
To summarize, I highly recommend staying at the Caribbean Beach Resort.

| re: .47
> Can somebody give me a comparison of the Caribbean and the Polynesian,
Let me try. I haven't stayed in either hotel, so this is based on
information from Disney, Birnbaum, this conference, and friends who
have.
The Poly has the following advantages:
Somewhat larger rooms (5 people).
Adjacent to the TTC, making for easy transportation to most places in
WDW.
On the Monorail line for direct access to the Magic Kingdom and other
hotels. There is also launch service to and from the MK.
Full Marina where you can rent all kinds of boats.
Several full service restaurants.
Beach, and two pools.
Neverland club for kids.
Concierge service available.
Expensive: $111-$245/night/room with MKC discount depending on time of
year and accommodations.
Caribbean Beach Resort:
Transportation by bus to the rest of WDW.
Closer to Epcot, Typhoon Lagoon, Pleasure Island, and WDW Village
Marketplace.
Counter service restaurants in a food court (Old Port Royale).
Somewhat smaller rooms (4 people).
Several pools and children's play area.
Non-motorized boats and bicycles available for rent.
Moderately priced: $69-$99/night/room with MKC discount depending on
time of year and accommodations.
I think the bottom line is that you get what you pay for. You have to
decide what's important to you. There are opinions on both resorts all
over this conference.
I've been reading about the Hoop-Dee-Doo, what is it?
It is a western theme dinner show performed three times nightly at
Pioneer Hall in Fort Wilderness. It is, IMHO, the best of the Disney
dinner shows. Don't miss it. Note 116 has lots of information on all
the dinner shows in and around WDW.

12.49 | We thought the CBR was Great! | CLADA::BENO | | Fri Feb 02 1990 06:28 | 17 |
| We have just returned from Disney and stayed two of the days at
the CBR. We loved it. The rooms were very nice (the beds firm as
I like them). There were five different sets of buildings in different
colors (Barbados,Martinique,Trinidad,Jamaica and Aruba). Each area
had its own pool and there was a central area (Old Port Royale)
that had a larger pool with water slide. Also, in Old Port Royale
were the central Fast food places and shops as well as boat rentals.
We rented the small one man motorized boats (they were very safe
and even ten year olds with no boating experience could rent them).
We felt that it was a very private resort and a great place to relax
from all the hussle and bussle of Disney. Each area also had its
own private beach. We liked it so much that it was 5:00 pm on our
last day before we left CBR and headed for DISNEY. We will book
for a much longer time here on our next visit. But as we were on
a semi-budget we had stayed 6 nights in the Travelodge Flags
($29/night) before trying our first ever stay on Disney property
($90/night with tax for garden view).

| Does anyone want to comment further regarding transportation from the
CBR to TMK?
I recall seeing a note somewhere saying that the bus ride was close to
50 minutes and that the way to combat this was to drive to the Poly and
take the monorail.
Wouldn't it be faster to drive to the Contemprary and get on the
monorail there? Or even Epcot?
Comments? Suggestions?

Going by memory here, The Hotel Monorail loop operates in the oposite
direction than the TTC/MK loop. The Hotel Loop run in a clockwise
fashion, Contemporary -> TTC -> Poly > Grand Floridian -> MK, while the
other loop goes counter clockwise. So it would even be more to your
advantage to drive to the GF. Of course this is what I remember from
'87 and could be diferent now with the changes in busses etc.

12.52 | buses aren't that bad | NITMOI::WITHERS | So shines a good deed in a weary world.. | Fri Feb 02 1990 11:11 | 17 |
| When last I was there (July '89) bus service from the CBR to the TTC was about
twenty-thirty minutes. Buses ran every ten-fifteen minutes. From the TTC
myriad options exist including express monorail to MK, and ferry to MK. So,
I don't think the buses are all that bad.
Warning! The bus from the CBR to the TTC loops through the five islands and
the Old Port Royale so this may up the time as much as ten-fifteen minutes
if your at a bad stop. IMHO, it is usually easier to take a nice walk to the
best stop in the Florida sunshine then just sit at your stop and wait.
Last disclaimer, buses can be better or worse dependant upon time. Some of
the runs were fairly bad when we were there but the cast member said it was
because a whole new batch of trainees bus-drivers just came aboard. Also,
with all the new locations Disney was still in optomization stage of working
the bus lines out.

the buildings do. When I checked in, I was asked if I wanted a ground
floor room, or a room upstairs. When I inquired which one was better,
I was told the ground floor, because there weren't any elevators. I
choose the top floor anyway, so that I would not have anyone above my
head making noises. I wasn't sure this would be a problem, (and it
probably isn't), but I did not want to take a chance, and since I had a
choice I just took the top floor. The maids carts are indeed upstairs
all the time. There is a big linen room on each floor, and the carts a
kept there. Being on the second floor was not a problem, except
carrying 6 pieces of luggage in and out when we came and left.

12.62 | King size beds at CBR!!!!! | GEMINI::GIBSON | | Mon May 07 1990 16:55 | 15 |
| Since we have invited my in-laws to join us for part of our trip,
Saturday and Sunday nights, and are trying not to rival the national
debt for this trip, we are now staying in the CBR again. It was the
only hotel where we could get a room for both parties for the necessary
nights. Sharing a room just wouldn't work; my father-in-law goes to bed
at 9:00.
I think I have spoken with every reservation clerk in the CRO
since we started planning in January. I feel like I should stop by and
introduce myself. They have all been very patient and helpful. Where
can I direct a complimentary letter?
One thing which surprised me, though, was that I was offered rooms with
king-sized beds at the CBR. Are these just in the newer (farther away
from Port Royal) area? I didn't know such a thing existed in CBR.

| I had one king size bed. The room was not large, but decent. Our room
had a small bathroom with a bathtub/shower and outside the bathroom, in
an avclove, were two sinks. This was convient as you could brush your
teeth/ shave or what not while some else showered.
There was an amore (sp?) with a cable t.v. in it (with the disney
channel, of course.) a chest of drawers, air conditioning and a ceiling
fan.
We went last year, the week of May 20. Rates were about $79 a night. We
stayed 5 nights.
CRB is very close to Epcot and MGM. Shuttle buses run from each village
in the CRB to each of the parks in the complex (about every 1/2 hour)
The main buliding of the CRB is called Port Royal. There are a few
shops and snack shops and a pool with a bar. Guest services are handled
at Port Royal.
I understand there is also a beach and boats may be rented.
Overall the CRB is very nice. It is one of the less expensive hotels on
Disney property. I will be going back to WDW next week 8*) but I will
not be staying on Disney property. Although the CRB is nice, I can get
a very good room outside of Disney for about $30 a night, lets face it,
while at Disney we plan to spend as little time in the hotel as
possible. I can not justify spending $50 more a night just to stay on
Disney property.

less noisy and more private. Can anyone give me some pointers?

12.71 | Pool is also lakeside | TYGER::GIBSON | | Mon Jul 09 1990 12:42 | 20 |
| At the CBR, the pool is lakeside, too. The only thing you can do
if you don't want pool noise and want to be lakeside is to ask for a
room further away from the pool. There are more of those than the ones
near the pool anyway. Just a note, though: The only vending machine
(yes, I mean ONE) for soft drinks for each village is in the coin
operated laundry which opens onto the pool.
We also had a Deluxe pool/lakeside room. We got both, right next to the
pool, on the lake, in the Jamaica village, and the noise was minimal.
To get to Port Royale, with the restaurants and shops, most villages have
to take a bus. There is a bridge across the lake, though, and it was just
a short walk across the bridge from Jamaica. The other village with easy
access to the bridge is Aruba. If I were going back tomorrow I would \
request the same room that we had.
One thing to keep in mind: there are no balconies to sit on outside the
rooms. In CBR that is the walkway ("hall") from one room to another.

| We spent two weeks at the CBR. When we had made our
reservations, only the deluxe view rooms were available. We
were hoping for the cheaper room, but ended up being really
impressed. We had a great room and feel that it is definitely
worth the extra $10 over the garden view. Whether it is worth
an extra $25 over the standard view is a tougher choice.
I had requested a first floor room in Martinique based on
recommendations. I arrived early to check in and get a nice
room. Before going in, I was talking to the Bell Captain and
asked if Martinique was a nice area. He said it was one of
the best because it was close to Old Port Royale. Then he
asked what class of room I would be getting. When I told him
a deluxe, he said his favorite was in the Aruba 5200 building
because of the view. He said to request a corner room because
it has windows on two walls instead of one and offered a nicer
view. He also said to request a second floor room. Then he
got out a CBR map and showed me his favorite room (5257). I
went in to register and requested that particular room hoping
it was available that day. I was in luck.
The view was great. The promenade was directly in front of
the room and we had a panoramic view of the lake with Old Port
Royale directly across. It was really nice to eat breakfast
in our room watching the sunrise through the fog rising off
the lake.
The bridge across the lake to OPR was close to our room so
getting there was convenient. We really only ate there a few
times. We also ordered pizzas a couple of times, which they
delivered to the room. I followed the advice of someone else
in this file, and bought a styrofoam cooler which we used to
keep milk, juice boxes, beer, mineral water, pudding snacks,
shrimp cocktails etc. We also bought individual cereal boxes
and ate breakfast in our room most mornings. It seems that
almost everyone had a cooler in their room. The ice machines
were almost always empty late at night (because of all the
coolers) so I would usually load up the cooler with ice each
morning after breakfast.
We used most of the recreational facilities at CBR. We rented
the tubies once ($9.00/half hr) which was fun, but they do not
go as fast as the water sprites they have at some of the other
resorts. We also rented bikes one day. My oldest daughter
and I rode a tandem ($4.00/hr), my wife and the other two
rented regular bikes ($3.00/hr), with training wheels for the
kids. The bikes are not high performance machines (just
sidewalk bikes), but fun nonetheless for a family ride around
the lake a few times. They have bells to warn pedestrians that
you are coming. The kids used the playground area a couple of
times. It is located on the island on the way to OPR. We
spent some time at the main pool at OPR because it had a
slide, whirlpool spa, and was well themed as a Caribbean
castle. We used the pool near our room for short swims or for
midnight dips.
We had 5 of us in our room even though you could "legally"
only have 4. The kids (ages 4, 6, 8) took turns using the
sleeping bag and pillow we brought along (they do this at home
all the time anyway just for fun). We noticed several other
families with 3 kids so this is not uncommon. Except for
checking in as a party of 4, we didn't attempt to hide the
fact that there were 5 of us. The maids definitely knew there
were 5 of us and left extra towels. We also asked for an
additional set of towels for swimming. After that they would
leave extra towels each day.
For the price, we definitely thought the CBR was a great place.

| Bob,
For my money there is no better family resort in The World than the
CBR. First off you are no more than 10 minutes away from Epcot, MGM,
Typhoon Lagoon, Pleasure Island, and The Shopping Village.
Secondly it is very economical for an on-the-property resort.
Thirdly, it has everything you need...busses to everywhere, a laundry
room, pools, food court, activities, a store, etc.
Last July I stayed at The Contemporary and later at the CBR and I found
the CBR more enjoyable.
As for the negative aspects well....some people may think it's too far
from TMK. Also, I've heard complaints that the rooms are too small. I
think that is a matter of opinion.
I've also heard complaints about the card keys to the rooms. Some
people like to add a key to their key chain and feel the card keys are
easy to lose.
One thing I noticed is that we came back from one of the theme parks
one day around 1:30 and wanted to take a short afternoon nap before
going back to the park (it was hot that day). Our room wasn't serviced
until right after we left.
Also, some people don't like the bus service. Depending upon where you
catch the bus at the CBR you may not like the idea of standing on a bus
or waiting 20 minutes to get to your destination because the bus has
made stops all around the CBR.
Everyone should have a car handy in case you want a little
independence.
To sum it up the CBR is probably the best deal for a family resort in
WDW and I'm looking forward to my return...my family voted the CBR
tops.

Well Bob first off we like to see a not-so-high bill at the end of our
stay. The CBR is the best on the property deal.
If you are into water sports the CBR offers many water activities
including paddle boats and other amphibian delights.
Also you can rent a bike and bike around the lagoon, visit the video
room and play some games, stop in at the loungr for a pop or two, or
just enjoy the sights and sounds of the pool near your room.
DOn't forget, you also get the Disney channel in your room so you can
still rest and wallow in Walt's influence when you're resting.
It's a great place.

| Something else for the "big kids" to do at the CBR, and the little ones too, if
they want, is to take a walk around the promenade. To me, it appeared so calm
and quite taking a leisurely stroll around the lagoon. Also, just looking
around at the buildings, with their different colors, and the exceptionally
well kept landscaping adds to the walk.
If you happen to be there with someone special, an evening (or early morning)
stroll could put all your troubles behind you. My wife and I took many evening
walks and just sat on a bench along the way and gazed off into space. The walk
also helps work off some of the food that one partakes of!

12.85 | which buildings are best... | ASABET::C_AQUILIA | | Thu Mar 21 1991 11:05 | 18 |

We are headed to WDW in a few weeks and have made reservations for a
week at the CBR. We will have the opportunity to choose which building
we want to stay in, dependent on availability, once we arrive (which
will be around 1:00ish hopefully). From what we've read it looks like
staying in one of the buildings close to Port Royal is best for
convenience to the Restaurants etc. and more importantly, could possibly
cut down on waiting time for shuttles to the theme parks.
What we don't know is which of the buildings offer these conveniences,
or for that matter, whether this is really a valid concern. We have a
garden view.
Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks in advance,

12.87 | Martinique first bus stop | WDWLD::KARAM | | Fri Mar 22 1991 15:05 | 26 |

Martinique is the first stop for the shuttle buses (it was in Nov,
'89). This means it is first in the morning (you should at least
get a seat) and drives around to the other stops (while you wait
in the air-conditioning). In the evening, being the first stop,
you get off first.
The stops after Martinique are Old Port Royale, Trinidad I, Trinidad
II, Jamaica, Aruba and Barbados.
Across the lake from OPR are the Jamaica and Aruba buildings. Almost
in the middle of the buildings is a bridge that crosses the lake,
passing through the Parrot Cay Island (which houses some Parrots
and some childrens play areas). If you are in a room close to the
bridge, that would be almost as convenient as being in the middle
of the Martinique complex. I'm going from recollection and a small
map which I have in front of me.
We stayed in Barbados and walked to/from the bus stop in Martinique.
It was a stroll over to OPR.
If you get there early, drive by the custom house and look around
at the layout. If you have time, take a walk around the (I think)
1.4 mile promenade and check the different buildings out.

12.93 | In-room refrigerators available | AIMHI::HUTCHINSON | | Fri Apr 12 1991 16:27 | 37 |
| Returned last night from a week at CBR. It's still there. Like living
in a coloring book - hear a birdsong and look around for the hidden
speaker. We especially enjoyed Cranium Command, Animations, Star
Tours, Mr Toad's Wild Ride (daughters are 7 & 9) and Thunder Mountain.
Do *NOT* go to Fort Liberty except to drink liquid pewter, though the
trick roper is incredible & native-american dance very good. Great
dancing opportunities at Pleasure Island. Kids were very impressed
with Top of the World Broadway Show.
Reason for this reply is that I learned that if you want a refrigerator
in your room in CBR, just "touch" 11, and ask for one. An alternative
to cooler and ice in the room.
Last week the theme parks were open lake, but this week MK was 9:00 -
8:00. It was not crowded. Plenty of empty rooms in CBR. Weather was
beautiful - 85, nice for swimming.
The touring plans of the Unofficial Guide were very effective keeping
us out of lines. We recommend them.
Went over to the coast to witness the shuttle launch - watched from
Patrick AFB which was too far away. We should have driven further
north. (We used a plan inspired by Norman S. - wide swing to south from
WDW to avoid heavy traffic going directly east from Orlando - so started
north on 1A from Melbourne. Apparently we executed mor like McLellan
(sp?))
We did get a good look at the fiery trail across the sky into & out of
broken clouds, but none of the thunderous effect of being in earshot.
Beach there was pretty badly polluted with tar - got on our feet and
clothes as we played in the sand.
We are finished with Disney now, will not go back. It was okay to do
once.

in our room for our use. We just had a few things which we did fit into
the mini-bar - so we didn't get one. I brought back the info 'cause I
thought it might be valuable to someone via this conference. There
appear to be a number unpublicized features in WDW. If you ask, you
receive. But if you don't know to ask, or don't take the initiative,
then they trust you're happy with what you have - creates a culture of
the insider, and enables them to keep even relatively demanding guests
satisfied.
I don't know about the other resorts, but I'd certainly ask for
anything that would make my stay there more comfortable/convenient/
enjoyable. They seem determined to meet or exceed your expectations -
so why not make those expectations a real challenge for them - I would
not bet against Mickey's team delivering.

The question is twofold. First, have you stayed in both a corner room

Did you find the corner room to be more enjoyable than the non-corner

Because as part of their 20th anniversary, WDW is supposed to actively

If you just use the room as a base, then I think you would
be OK. The rooms have enough space for four people to wash (Twin
washbasins outside the bathroom) and dress without getting in each
others way. The clothing storage is just about adequate for two
adults and two boys (Although our friend's two 14yr old girls
neeeded a room to themselves for their clothing!). If the boys
start to get boisterous, the CBR is safe enough for you to throw
them outside for a while. There are plenty of pools, beaches and
paths, and feed them a handful of quarters and they will disappear
into the arcade at OPR for hours at a time. The only danger is
crazy English tourists wobbling around on rental bikes (But I'll
let you know when we next visiting!).
If your group are friendly/close enough, you could get two
interconnected rooms and even out the space/storage!

| John,
Use the busses. They will save you time. Study this scenario.
From CBR to TMK using bus:
Take a bus to the front of TMK - 15-20 minutes from getting onto bus to
hitting the turnstiles.
From CBR to TMK using car:
Drive to TMK...about 10-15 minutes.
Pass through toll plaza.
Park in parking lot or hotel lot.
If in parking lot:
Wait and take tram to TTC 10-15 minutes.
Wait and take monorail to TMK another 5-10 minutes.
Total time from CBR to TMK turnstiles 25-40 minutes.
If in hotel lot:
Enter hotel and wait/take monorail to TMK 10-15 minutes.
Total time from CBR to TMK turnstiles 25-35 minutes.
You don't have to pay $4 to park.

CBR. Depending on when you're going, the lines for parking may or may
not be small. And, unlike MK, you can easily walk to the MGM entrance
from almost anywhere in the parking lot, and somewhat less easily for
Epcot, depending on where you park. If you prefer, the trams run

But if you're planning on consuming alcohol at all at Pleasure Island,

| $99 is one of the base rates for rooms at CBR, PO, and DL. Steep Florida
room taxes makes it $108. The lower base rate of $85 is typically sold
out for months ahead, but they have a lot of rooms available now. All
the hotels seem to have rooms available. There's even signs posted around
the roads to lure you in!

No, you must bring your own hair dryer for any of the lower priced
resorts.
Also, we stayed in Jamaica and liked it because it was only a short
walk to the bridge to Port Royal. We didn't have to take the bus to
get breakfast in the morning.

We stayed the first 4 nights at the CBR.
Martinique on the second floor seems to be the best location.
That's where we were (thanks to the recomendations here).
I did not think much of the food hall though, we had coffee there the night
we arrived and took one look at the lines for breakfast the next morning
and decided to skip it.
I'll be doing a trip report when I've got lots of time!
Barbados might be a good second to Martinique - you could still walk to
the Martinique bus stop in the mornings!
In fact I think we were closer to the Barbados pool than the Martinique pool.

| I stayed at the Yacht & Beach Club when it first opened. I walked
through the Dolphin and agree that it is not very friendly looking.
However, you are within walking distance of EPCOT and there is a
boat ferry that takes you to MGM. They also have a bus stop for
transportation to anywhere. At the Y&B Club they have all kinds
of restaurants and a neat soda shop. You are also right near
stormalong bay for swimming. Dolphin is just behind the Y&B Club.
I think one consideration would be which parks you are planning to
frequent. If you are primarily interested in MK perhaps it would be
worth the extra to stay at CBR.
But with the Disney transportation network being what it is I would
be tempted to stay at the Dolphin for $85.00 and spend the extra
money on souvenirs etc.
Just my opinion.

Sorry about be so obtuse. We were shocked at the size (SMALL) of this
room for the price they charge. We have a week at Vistana outside WDW
and we're spoiled. We now go down early and stay somewhere until we can
get into the condo on Sunday. This past year we decided to try an
on-premise resort. We stayed at the Radission outside Lake Buena Vista
last year and had 2 KING size beds plus a room twice the size of the
CRB room for only $69 plus tax.
The only benefit if we had know about it was that being a guest allows
you to rent the boats in the lagoon for all day for a flat rate. We
didn't take full advantage of this.
We were also extremely disappointed at the breakfasts offered in the
CRB "mall". The food quality vs. the price was outrageous. Again,
off-premise restaurants offer better value for breakfast and dinner.
It looks like they are going for the profits on this one.

| It's true that the CBR rooms are small. The idea here is to give young
families an affordable on-site hotel and for the pre-school or
pre-teen family of 4 or less the CBR is a good deal.
For those who have never been to the CBR, PO, or DL don't expect to
stay in the "lap of luxury" when booking in these three hotels.
Some of you will find the CBR to be more than what you expected and
others will expect more for the price.
The majority of those who stay come back smiling.
The food court offers variety and my kids loved it. The atmosphere is
very family-like and the food is pretty good.
Remember that the CBR/PO/DL trio of hotels are to make WDW affordable.
The price of the rooms offers young families not only the chance to
visit WDW but to visit for a pretty good stay.

Yes, CBR, PO, and DL all have some rooms with king sized beds. The
rooms are exactly the same size, but it feels like more space to move
around with the one bed set further into the room. There aren't very
many, though, so specify your request on your reservation.

RE: last couple (king size bed)
I stayed at the CBR Nov. '91 and was asked when I made the reservation
if I wanted to request a King size bed. I may be remembering wrong
but as I remember the rooms come with 2 queen size beds and the
reservation person suggested requesting the king cuz then there's
only 1 king (vs. 2 queens) so there's more space since the rooms
are the same size ... ? At least, that's what I understood. So do
call back and ask. You can also request smoking or non-smoking rooms.

| The rooms at the CBR come in two configurations:
1) 2 Double beds.
2) 1 King Bed.
The two room types are the same size and therefore the rooms with a
king bed have more free space.
The double beds are x-long and have an extra 6" in length (same as a
queen/king), but they have the same width as a double. If my wife and
I were staying there alone, then we would definitely get the room with
a king bed. The doubles are barely adequate (however, I am pretty big
and feel that my king at home is too small).

On-site, maybe, but affordable? We have been to DW 9 times, 8 in a row,
and we found that even thought these were on-site, the value for the
dollars was poor.
Why would you want to spend money for such a poor on-site room?
Yes, the food court has variety, but again, the value for the money was
poor.
However, please remember we are EXTREMELY jaded about poor value hotel
rooms because of our excellent timesharing investment at VISTANA. We
don't go there for the hotel experience, we go there for the
amusements.

Ah, have you looked at comparable AAA rated hotels lately within a 10
mile radius?
All if not most of the 3 diamond rated hotels (CBR is rated 3 diamonds)
in the route 192 Kissimee area are at the $80-100 range if not more
(minus a few exceptions). Now if you want to stay at a Budget 6 with
no pool/restaurant fine, but the majority of the better motels/hotels
in the area cost are near, and don't even offer the same ammenities.
Note that Port Orleans and Dixie Landings also have a sit-down
restaurant.
I have spent more money to stay in socalled luxury hotels at Toronto,
Montreal, Niagra Falls Canada etc. and though the rooms were slightly
larger, they didn't even come close to the lush lanscaping/theme and
other amenities found at Port Orleans.
Why would I stay on-site versus a room on 192?
because of the convinience and the fact I don't have to contents with
the traffic/lights/nosies/tour group found off-site.
> Yes, the food court has variety, but again, the value for the money was
> poor.
What are you camparing this too? a high class restaurant? the food at
the food courts of Port Orleans and Dixie Landings were as I would have
expected based on any other food court I have eaten at other Amusement
parks or Malls. No I didn't eat at CBR but would expect the food to be
about the same quality etc.

Ah so the truth comes out and heres the rub, Your basing your
feelings on the CBR based on timeshare ownership.
Your trying to compare Apples to Oranges. Trying to compare a
Timeshare Condo to a hotel, will always make the condo come out ahead.
Since with a timeshare you have basicly and apartment (several
rooms/baths, kitchen, free laundry etc.) versus a room with to sleep.
You should be comparing your Vistana timeshare ownership to Disney's
Vacation Club and not the CBR, chances are they be about the same once
Disney's vacation CLub is finished.

| We have never stayed at Vistana, but everything that I heard
is very positive. I'm sure it is one of the best time-share
condos in the area.
Comparing it to CBR though is not an equal comparison since
renting a unit at Vistana costs about twice as much as a room
at the CBR. Last time we checked, Vistana was over
$200/night, compared to less than $100 for the CBR. Owning a
unit might change the nightly cost.
We have rented condos in the WDW area in the past, and will
continue to do so when we have extra people with us and need
the space. For example, we usually invite grandparents to
join us, and I usually pay the tab. Since I can't afford to
pay for 2 rooms, we rent a condo off property for about the
same price as a room within WDW (less than $100). However,
when the folks leave, my family moves into a room in WDW for
the rest of our vacation. We would prefer to stay within WDW
than to have the extra space of a condo.
We prefer to stay at WDW's nicer resorts (Y&BC is our favorite
so far), but only do so when we can snag a special rate.
Otherwise, we stay at one of the economy resorts. From what
we have seen, (CBR and PO) the CBR is our favorite.
I agree with Claude that the CBR's atmosphere is very nice
compared to most resorts. The rooms are small, but the
overall atmosphere more than compensates. I think that it is
about the best value in the area.
We do not care for the food at the CBR at all. I think I only
ate there once. When we go to WDW, we usually eat most of our
lunch and dinner meals at full service restaurants, almost
completely within WDW.
Last summer we spent 2 weeks at the Y&BC. We ate our meals
throughout WDW in the finest restaurants. We spent less
money, including lodging and meals, at WDW than we would have
spent for lodging alone at Vistana.
|
12.134 | | KYOA::KOCH | It never hurts to ask... | Sun May 17 1992 00:57 | 13 |
| Yes, as I said, I am extremely jaded. We go for 9 days and usually only
spend 4 days at WDW. Last year our daughter took part in one of the
children's programs for $75, the best investment we could make.
Since we now own our timeshare, it only costs us $55/day (maintenance
fee). Given that we have the timeshare, hotel rooms for THIS vacation
is always a let down.
We also eat out a alot. We have eaten in many a Disney restaurant from
Victoria & Albert to that seafood & chicken place by the haunted house.
We feel that we get a lot of value from the World Showcase restaurants
and the lunch style places. However, unless they make some changes, CBR
cafeteria is not on our list...

| If you are staying at the CBR for any length of time, you might
want to take advantage of the 'Family Plan' for the boats.
We were in the CBR for two weeks, and got into the pattern of
leaving the parks late morning, and doing some pool time before
returning late afternoon or early evening (See, we do practice
what we preach!!). Some friends, also with two kids, came over to
visit, and we decided to rent some 'toobies' for the kids (and for
the Dads!). I spotted the bottom line on the Rental Price board -
Family Plan $35. For $35 you can rent any boats (to a maximum of 5
at a time) as many times as you want for the duration of your
stay. You are still bound by the half hour at a time rule, but at
the end of the half hour, you can go by the desk and get another
slip for the next batch of rentals.
That first afternoon I rented 5 toobies at one go, then 2 then 3.
That was 50 bucks worth in one afternoon, followed by a rental
almost every other day of the next to largest Flote Boat ($17.5
per half hour) and a tooby. I think we covered the cost 5 or 6
times over. At no time did anyone check whether all the users were
from the same family!
Check it out if you have a big "family"!

| She would probably be allowed on the tooby with you...if you can
find a lifevest small enough to fit her! Anyone older than 10 can
take one out, and you can take 1 passenger. But the cast members
are hot on lifevests for the smaller boats..toobies, three seat
canoes and small sailboats. I saw them block a tooby with the
lifeguard's power boat until the 14/15 yr old boy put his back on.
(No, you can't hire the power boat, before anyone asks!)
If your daughter is the crawly/fidgety type (like mine was at that
age) and won't sit still for long, I wouldn't recommend the tooby,
or the bikes with baby seats that are also available for hire.
If she can swim well, then she can use the slide in the pool at
OPR, but she can't go down wearing any flotation device, and you
will not be allowed to stay at the bottom to catch her, they keep
that area clear. The water is over 6 feet at that point BTW.
If she's a water baby, take her to River Country or Typhoon Lagoon
where there are small slides and tube rides specifically for the
kiddies, and you can stand around to catch them.

Very manoeverable, not particularly fast, but safe and good fun at

Thanks for your help.

| There are grocery stores in the area, although you can buy some items
inside at the stores, but he prices inside are expensive. The closest
store to CBR (and probably the rest) is Goodings at Crossroads.
Goodings is also a little expensive, but less than the on-property
stores.
A cooler will do fine. I know there is a note somewhere in here that
told of someone who requested a 'fridge and they got one! With Disney,
you usually only have to ask and what does it hurt to ask since the
only thing they can say is "No" and then you are in the same position
as you were before. I'd say, get the cooler, but call guest svcs after
you checkin and ask about a "cube style" fridge. Goodings also sells
those cheap foam coolers that you could use for the week and trash when
you are done.
Your request is one of the many reasons I usually stay at FW in a
Trailer. They have full kitchen facilites w/Diswasher and Microwave.
Good luck,
John

| I'll second John's comments. The last time that we stayed at the CBR
(which was in Martinique, on the second floor, 2400 building...) we
found that the best combination of cost/convenience was to buy a low
cost styromfoam cooler and groceries at Goodings in The Crossroads.
You can get things closer (in Old Port Royale at CBR, at MUCH higher
prices), and can probably find lower prices (at MUCH further distances).
Cheers,

12.157 | Ordering your Refrigerator | CUPMK::SCOPA | | Thu Feb 25 1993 15:36 | 16 |
| Diane,
You can request a refrigerator for your room. I would call up and make
that request NOW. It's best to have this request put on your
reservation information ASAP. That way you have a better chance of
having your fridge waiting for you when you check in.
I believe they'll put your fridge directly on top of the mini-bar.
There is a store in the Old Port Royale Food Court. This store will be
supplied with all kinds of things to munch and sip on and the prices,
althought not the greatest in the world, may be close to what you pay
at Goodings these days.

12.158 | CBR questions | NAPIER::HAGEN | Please send truffles! | Fri Feb 26 1993 09:04 | 23 |
| Some CBR questions since I plan on staying there on my next trip down.
What is the best section to request a room in?
After reading these notes, most people seem to think Martinique, 2nd floor,
corner room, is best. Why is that? It's proximity to Old Port Royal???
Another advantage seems to be it's the first bus stop, but I don't plan on
using WDW busses to get to and fro.
In a note way back by Jim Pappas, I believe, he said that the bell captain
(or some other cast member) said his favorite room section was in Aruba, bldg.
5200, corner room. He even said room 5257 was best. What is so great about
this room? I believe Jim said he was able to get this room. How much of a
walk is it to OPR from here? (how big is Parrot Cay Island?)
After looking at the CBR map, the distance to OPR from Aruba looks about the
same as from Martinique.
Are there any other advantages to Martinique?
Why are corner rooms better?
I assume 2nd floor rooms are better because there is less traffic by your
door.
Isn't there a playground of some sort on Parrot Cay Island?

12.159 | A little info... | MAYES::GIBSON | | Fri Feb 26 1993 09:44 | 18 |
| Just some thoughts from having stayed there twice:
We stayed in Martinique (on the far side from Old Port Royal in the
2100 building) and in Jamaica (room very near the pool overlooking
the beach in the 4200 building). Jamaica was a a shorter walk to Olde
Port Royal using the path through Parrot Cay and across the lake.
Aruba is probably the same distance from the other side of the
bridge.
The only place I would absolutely NOT stay is Trinidad 2 (3300-3900
buildings). They are off the beaten track to everything.
Corner rooms have two windows instead of one and an occupied room on
only one side.
Mike probably has more detailed reasons for his preferences.

12.162 | Martinique at the CBR | CUPMK::SCOPA | | Fri Feb 26 1993 11:18 | 30 |
| I like Martinique because it's close to the Custom House and close to
OPR. It's the first stop for the busses and that may not as important
in the morning as it is at night.
I like the bright roof colors of Martinique. As far as a corner room or
second floor goes, well traffic is lighter upstairs but I really don't
notice traffic that much because when I'm in my room I'm either
sleeping or in the shower getting ready to leave.
Martinique is close enough to allow for a nice stroll to the Custom
House to cash a Traveler's Cheque or a short walk to OPR to the Food
Court.
The CBR offers water activities that PO and DL doesn't. If you check
some of Mike Batty's notes from 1992 you'll notice the great deal he
got for his two weeks there...something like $35 for family use of all
water vehicles for the length of his stay....made out like a bandit.
Parrot Cay is a distance from Martinique but the grounds are so
beautiful you really won't mind the walk.
If you stay at Martinique and use your car then in no time you're out
of the property on your way to your destination. With a car you are
5-10 minutes from MGM/EC/TL and PI. YOu are 10-15 minutes from TMK.
I had a choice of DL/PO/CBR for my last trip and my wife and I talked
about splitting up the stay in all three but decided in the end to do
it all at the CBR because of the atmosphere...very laid back.

| Re: 12.158
We liked Martinique because:
- Close to Old Port Royale
- First stop on the bus route
- Closest to the Pleasure Island evening bus route stop
(the ONLY bus stop for PI at night is at the south entrance
to OPR)
- It backs on to undeveloped land, rather than Buena Vista Drive
Second floor because:
- Less traffic
- No noise over your head
Re: 12.160
- I don't believe that any of the on-site transportation goes to
The Crossroads, you would need a car.
- The Crossroads is located directly across the street (route 535?)
from the north entrance to the road that runs through the hotels
of the Disney Village (Hilton, Pickett Suites, etc.) It is about
as close as you can get to being on the Disney property without
actually being on the Disney property, North of WDW, just West of I4.
From I4, if you took the WDW Shopping Village exit, headed on the
public road (I535?) toward the WDW Shopping Village and hotels,
but instead of turning left into the WDW property turned RIGHT,
you are in The Crossroads.

12.164 | Deluxe Water View | DWOMV2::JOHNSON | | Wed Mar 03 1993 12:21 | 12 |
| I just booked my reservations at CBR and have reserved a deluxe water

the best view ( ie. Martinique, Barbados, etc.). And whether a pool
view or a lake view is nicer. We have a 2 yr. old with us, but would
also like some quiet time while we are in our room. Any sugestions are
much appreciated.
Also, is this money for the upgraded view worth while.

12.165 | We liked it | MAYES::GIBSON | | Wed Mar 03 1993 12:42 | 16 |
| We have stayed in a deluxe water view room in Jamaica. Any water view
room will be able to see the lake; the pool view will be able to see
both. The pool tends to be noisier; not that many people use the beach.
We had a room one down from the corner on the seocnd floor (#4246) with
two double beds and liked it. It was a very short walk to the pool, but
we couldn't see it and weren't bothered by the noise. There was a peaceful
view of the beach and lake. The stairs were beside the room next door,
and the path around the lake was only a few feet from the bottom of the
stairs.
If you are planning to spend more time in your room than showering and
sleeping it is probably worth it for the extra money. We found it more
relaxing than a parking lot or garden view room.

| From reading the previous replys on this note, it seems that the place
to get is in Martinique on the second floor and a corner room. Would
this give me a good view of the lake and is it near the beach. I cannot
seem to get a good feel of the layout from .117 to tell which bldg
would give me the best view yet still put me in a good position for the
bus stop and Port Royale. If someone could explain how the grounds are
layed out and better describe where the beach and lake lie and how the
bldgs surround the water I would appreciate it.
Perhaps a recommendation of bldg and room if anyone has had the
same accommodations that I am booking . I appreciate .165 ! Does anyone
else have any personal experience??

| Sigh, this is my first day back to work after going on the Big Red Boat
and then 3 days at Disneyworld. We stayed at the CBR in Martinique on
the second floor (room 2261) - it was a corner room. We just had a garden
view, but the lake was right around the corner. They had a portion roped
off that you could swim in. They also had a jungle gym for the kids to
play on. In our building it was closer to go to the pool for Barbados than
for Martinique. At the center of the hotel they also had a big pool with a
castle and water slide in it, and in the middle of the lake they had an
island with fun stuff to do on it. To be honest with you, we weren't
ever around the hotel long enough to go on the little island though.
It was also pretty cold, so we didn't go in the pool (while it was the
blizzard of the century up in the northeast and all, we had tornadoes
in Florida!!).
Another good thing to keep in mind - you can use your Magic Kingdom
Club card at the store there!
Sigh - wish I was still there!

- There is a $12.00 charge for each third and fourth adult in the same

rate.
- There is no charge for children 17 and under if they occupy the same
room with their parents.
- I'm sure everyone knows that these three resorts allow a maximum of
four in a room. All other hotels have a 5-person limit.

Mike,
The rates that are quoted for the CBR, PO and DL, are they person or
per room, with two adults. Following your advice, I'm trying to list
my costs, if purchased separately or using a package deal to see what
is best. I thought using the Family Fun Package was the best deal of
the packages for our purpose, but I want to compare it to getting the
hotel separately and buying a 5 day super duper pass. Any insight??
Thanks for the other suggestions, I have been up and down this file,

12.172 | Insights | WREATH::SCOPA | | Wed Aug 18 1993 19:07 | 36 |
| Alan,
First decide on how long you want to stay.
Use whatever literature you have to figure out what that will cost you
on the Family Fun Package.
List line by line what that package gives you.
Call the CRO and find out what your rates would be for the same amount
of time. I'm gonna stick my neck out and say that you can expect to
pay around $90-95 (before taxes) per night at the CBR, PO, or DL
resort.
I think the packages include a "Be Our Guest" Pass which you may not
find very convenient since you usually end up having one more day left
on the ticket because it's a travel day (Book early flights into
Orlando and late flights out of Orlando.).
Also, be wary of special things like "Fun 'N' Sun" specials which may
require you to do some activities (golf, tennis, boating) that you're
really not interested in nor want to spend $$$$ on.
Keep this in mind as you do your comparison...when you book a room in
a la carte mode you know how much you are paying per night. When the
room comes with a package you REALLY DON'T KNOW how much the room is
costing you.
Another tidbit of information, this conference has been around for
about four years and we are seeing less and less people use these
vacation plans....so check them over carefully.
I hope others can provide some insight along with me 'cause it helps to
have more than one opinion in here for Alan.

12.173 | World vacation package | NODEX::MMCKENNA | | Thu Aug 19 1993 09:41 | 46 |
| Alan,
I prefer the world vacation package. I'm the type of person who
likes to pay for everything up front and know what it's going to
cost me. The big thing for me is that I feel very relaxed and "special"
when I go on the package. I never have to worry about what I order
for meals and I never have to say "we can't afford it". Especially
with three teenage kids who love the water activities. I can honestly
say that we USE the "Extra's" like the boats and the "Wonders of Walt
Disney World" learning programs. My kids have really enjoyed these
programs. My husband takes advantage of the fishing excursions.
Here's an example: My husband called down to make our Victoria and
Albert's reservations. The reservationist said, "Do you know how
expensive it is to eat here?" my husband, "Do you still take the
GOLD Key Card?" reservationist, "Yes sir" My husband, "Then I don't
care what it costs."
In the past, there were separate gates to enter the park if you had a
GOld Key card. (usually a lot less crowded.) The way we do it is to get
an extra night the day before our package begins and the day after.
Before we go off the package we get tickets for typhoon lagoon, and use
them relaxing in the sun our last non-package day and fly out that
night. This gives us even more bang for the buck.
I know people say the package isn't worth it if you don't use the
activities. I just know it makes my vacation a truely relaxing time.
FYI - We have saved up all the slips from the meals and activities
and room rate and have broken even. (not including admission media!)
So, as you can see, it really is a very personal choice. I just can't
say enough good about it. Last year when we went, we went with some
other DEC employees. It took some convincing on our part for them to
try the package. Now that they have, they say they would not go any other
way. Also, I tried to take my son to WDW last year, but not on the
package. He stated he would rather wait until we could afford the package
so that he doesn't have to feel guilty/worry about the money when we're
down there.
So, we're leaving TODAY at 2:30 for the airport! I am Sooooooo
excited!
If you need any other info about the WOrld vacation package, I would be
more than happy to help.

| > Would you be willing to share with us what the World Vacation Package
> cost you for the number of days (and don't forget how many people)
> spent in Orlando?
Sure, no problem. We're taking an 8 day, 7 night World Vacation Package
at the Beach Club Resort. For the 3 adults, we're paying $1284 each, and
for the 2 teenagers (juniors) we're paying $735 each. So for all of us, it's
$5322 for the package.
Then we've got an extra night on each end (still at the Beach Club)
for $213 per night. We decided to do this instead of moving to the
CBR, PO, or DL because we would have needed two rooms at those places
(maximum of 4 per room). It won't be any more expensive to stay at the
Beach Club, and there is no hassle of having to move.
Since you can buy tickets for Typhoon Lagoon, Discovery Island, and River
Country in advance, we are planning to do that while we're still on the
package, and then use the tickets on our last day (which is after the
package ends). So, we're really getting 9 days use of The World for our
package price.
So far we've got reservations for the Hoop Dee Doo Review, Victoria and
Albert's, a fishing expedition (for the boys), Broadway at the Top, and
a Wonders of the World Learning Program for the kids. We also have all
of our restaurants mapped out -- Flaglers, Narcoosees, Portabello,
Ariel's (for lobster!), the Yachtman's Steakhouse, etcetera, etcetera,
etcetera! And lots of R&R activities -- water sprites, toobies, boats,
water skiing, bicycles... So, we plan on getting our money's worth!
Can you tell we're getting excited?? Only 3 hours and 15 minutes until
we hit the road!

Airfare is not part of the package. We were going to drive down, but we

I thought that vacation packages offerred "Be Our Guest" passes.
By the way, if you stay on the property you won't be denied Typhoon

to Typhoon Lagoon. "Where are you going?" she asked.
I came across some castmembers, flashed my resort card and they pointed

12.179 | Another World Plan Example | FPTWS1::ABRAMS | Dr. Frankenclinton and algore | Thu Aug 19 1993 17:35 | 30 |
|
Hey Mike, move this note with the rest...
Here's the analysis I did of the World Plan (from my Trip Report of 9/92):
|WORLD PLAN COSTS: Going on the World Plan was fun and self-indulgent.
|Here's a synopsis of our spending on meals. For comparison, the
|vacation Kingdom plan, with hotel and admission but only a couple of
|meals would have been $1294. The World Plan was $1816, a difference
|of $522. So what did we use our Gold Key card for, and what did we
|spend that actually cost us $522? Here it is:
|
| Breakfast 29.14 16.43 29.14 29.14 29.14
| Lunch 42.80 163.84! 74.82 51.38 37.48
| Dinner 85.55 41.00 120.44 173.28!
| Pleasure Is. 21.90
| Typhoon Lag. 41.34
| Boats 44.00
|
| Total: $1810.82, which cost us $522, Bonus: $508.
We liked the plan for the pay ahead, don't care about costs results, which
is a lot like going to an all-inclusive resort in the Caribbean (another
favorite of ours.) Our conclusion was that you have to make an effort to
get your money's worth, and keep eating big meals at the expensive
restaurants. If you slack off and grab a coffee and danish for breakfast,
or skip a dinner to get a Wendy's fix, you might only break even!

12.180 | To plan or not to plan... | CSTEAM::STEINHARDT | | Thu Aug 19 1993 18:38 | 31 |
| As has been stated, whether or not you use a plan tends to come down to
some basic preferences and ability to use what they include. On each
of our last two family trips, I tried as hard as I could to justify
using a plan, and each time was NOT able to get as much for the $ as
going "a la carte". I believe that the primary reason for this was
that there are three children in our party, and when one factors in the
individual plan cost components for room (doesn't exist "a la carte"!,
the room cost is the room cost, within Disney room limit guidelines)
and meals, it was the children's portion of the plans where we wouldn't
get the value.
I do believe that if the party is all adults or mostly adults, the
plans tend to make more economic sense. While on each of our last two
trips we spent lots of bucks, and did not spare expense, the actual
expenses STILL came out less than what they would have been on the
fixed-cost plans. As an example of value, at the CBR we were able to
get the "family plan" for unlimited use of all watercraft and bicycles
for 11 days for a sum total of $39, usable by everyone in my family of
five AND my in-laws. There are very few differences between the
benefits of a plan and the benefits of merely staying on the property;
you still get early admission, guaranteed admission, transportation,
early meal reservations, free parking, etc., etc., etc.
If you want to pay in advance and not worry about cost while there, I'd
say that a plan makes sense. But the only way that I think that it
would make economic sense is if the party is mostly adult, and plans to
eat A LOT (which isn't such a bad idea at WDW!)
Cheers,
Ken

| I think that the consensus is that you don't necessarily get the
biggest bang for your buck when you opt for one of the plans unless
you really plan to visit several (expensive) restaurants everyday.
I think Bill's note pretty much says it all...it's convenience that
drives some people to use these plans.
Ken pretty much echos my thoughts on this.

I've been at WDW during early Dec and also late Dec. The weather varies
as already mentioned from low 80's during the day to low 60's. Toward
the end of the month you can get cold snaps that can end up with
weather in the 70's and 60's during the day to low 40's at nite. We
have had great weather there during the Xmas time of the month and we
have had bad freezing weather as well. The last two out of three times

12.195 | Use the mugs @ CBR | MKOTS3::BEALS | | Thu Jun 02 1994 10:08 | 17 |
| Just back from CBR, trip report will be a few weeks... I need to catch
up on work first, but......
on the firt day there, we ask the woman who came into our room to restock
the minini bar about the mugs (there great, I just drove to work with my
coffee in the mug this morning!). She assured us that it was OK to take
them to OPR for fill-ups. She told us they were looking at raising the
price of drinks at OPR to cover the cost of everyone using the mugs, but
have not determined how much to raise the prices too. Upon hearing that we
asked for three more mugs (So we would each have one) and used them for
morning coffee and afternoon drinks by the pool. Great idea!
I was baffled by some people asking where we got the mugs. I would have
assumed they would be in everyone's room. Maybe these people were just
visiting?

12.197 | Reserve Barbados? | MAIL2::BLACKMAN | As always..High on Life! | Thu Dec 15 1994 17:14 | 11 |
| Hi,
I notices that some people had said they made special requests to be in
a designated island building. When we asked that the person on the
other end of the phone said we would be lucky if we could get
non-smoking and a king bed. Is it possable he was wrong, should we
call back and insist on Barbados etc...
thanks

12.198 | Worth noting on the reservation | MAGEE::GIBSON | | Fri Dec 16 1994 09:00 | 18 |
| The more requests that you make the less likely the hotel will be able
to satisfy them all. King-size bed rooms now command the highest room
rate, regardless of view, because they are scarce and popular with
couples. We always request one of them. You can request Barbados and
have it noted on your reservation, but you have to decide what is most
important to you, the king-size bed, non-smoking, or the location?
Personally, I would compromise more on the location than the size of
the bed. If it is an especially busy time of the year none of your
requests may be able to be satisfied.
It's worth having the preference on file, but don't be too disappointed
if you have to take a different village. We were initially disappointed
to be assigned to Jamaica on one of our trips, but decided we liked it
after exploring the possibilites.
Regardless, you'll have a great time.

| We were there during the second of January, besides being cold, it
was satisfactory. The only negative thing was the cash refrigator that
not only sold soda but things like frisbees, scandals, etc. It just
rub me the wrong way, out for the buck type of scenario.
The had a problem with the shower, no hot water and we discover
that after we did the marathon, but they fixed it within a couple
of hours.
The beach area was nice to walk around, we didn't do any of the
boating things, but other people were. Again too cold for
us.
Bottom line, the rooms are comfortable, the bed relaxing, the TV works
and surroundings (beach, walkways, pools, etc) well taken care.
So it is your choice between Dixie Landings, CBR or New Orleans for
the same amount of money.

12.201 | Won't stay there again | MROA::CUDAK | Thel | Mon Mar 25 1996 08:50 | 18 |
| We were there last June. I guess I'm spoiled, I didn't like it....too
far from anything. We usually stay in one of the hotels on the monorail
line and missed the convenience. Also, our room was quite a distance
from anything in the complex, we walked almost a mile back and forth
for buses and to the food court. After walking all day and evening at
the parks, an almost mile walk to your room from the bus is something
no one really wants to do. Of course, the length of your walk totally
depends on your room assignment but getting a room close to the bus
stop is the luck of the draw.
The sit-down restaurant was excellent, the pool area near our room was
clean and not too crowded, and the girls had fun using the boats along the
waterway. Our room was comfortable and clean, however, I also didn't
care for the amount of stuff left in the room for sale. Our
housekeeper had lots of fun arranging out window with the girls'
stuffed animal purchases. Whenever we arrived back we always checked
out window before entering the room....my husband and I loved it, but
the girls' didn't like the idea of someone touching their stuff.

12.202 | Why I like the CBR | WREATH::SCOPA | | Mon Mar 25 1996 15:54 | 22 |
| It's all a matter of taste I guess. My wife loves the CBR for the
following reasons:
- Security
- Colorful
- Pools and laundry close by
- Varieties in the Food Court
- Save time to and from the car
- Comfy beds
- Good price
If you have stayed on a monorail hotel then you've been spoiled and
probably will miss the convenience of the monorail. The CBR is no more
than 10 minutes (MAX) from any theme or water park or the Marketplace.
Over the last 6 years I've spent more than 40 days at the CBR and
enjoyed every day.
I've also stayed at the Wilderness Lodge and although I liked it I
prefer the CBR because of most of the points made previously in my
reply.

| I admit I'm spoiled :-) We don't rent cars when we head to DW as we
never leave it during our stays. I found your comment about 10
minutes to the various theme parks interesting, was that by car or bus?
The buses we took didn't arrive at any of the parks in less than 20
minutes.

12.204 | My 2 cents | PCBUOA::RICCIOP | A takedown is worth 2 points! | Thu Mar 28 1996 12:02 | 12 |
| We've stayed at CBR twice, once in 1989 and then in 92. We liked it.
Our last trip, July 1994, we were upgraded from Port Orleans to
Wilderness Lodge. We LOVED it. This year we are looking at the Beach
Club Resort.
One of the things we always do is "pool hop". So far I think the WL has
one of the best pools. We haven't been to the Y&BC pools, so this will
be a new one for us.
Just to add to Mike's comments in .202. It's nice sometimes to get away
from the middle of everything. The hotels right on the monorail line do
not allow you to do that very easily.

It's hard to say if there's anything new, since I've never stayed there before.
I'm working on my trip report and it should be finished in a day or two.
We stayed at CBR for 5 nights and I wasn't very impressed with it. The room
seemed almost shabby - quite suprising considering the hotel isn't that old.
My biggest complaint was with housekeeping - they didn't show up to make up our
room until about 4:00 each day. We'd come back to our room around 3:00 for a
rest and our room wasn't done yet. One day they didn't even bother to empty
our wastebasket, which was almost overflowing at the time.
One thing new - they are renovating Martinique. While I was there, the Mar-
tinique pool & laundry area was closed. I peeked in and the pool looked
untouched, but the entire area around the pool was dug up. I've also seen
signs all around the Martinique area stating "Pardon our appearance while we
renovate this area for your future enjoyment". These weren't just posted
around the pool area, they were everywhere in Martinique, although I couldn't
really see any other renovation work being done. It may have gotten a fresh
coat of blue paint.
Also, in addition to being able to purchase CBR mugs for drink refills, you
may also purchase 25th Anniversary mugs, which look slightly larger, for the
same $6.95. One thing to note - you can buy these same mugs in MGM with a
drink for something like $3.95 and can probably still use them at CBR, although
that would be cheating a little. Also, next to the mugs in our room were
those Mickey Mouse rain panchos available for purchase at $5/each. Luckily
we never needed them.
One thing we were curious about - outside OPR there are these strings strung
up from the building to the lamp posts, criss-crossing. What are these
strings for? My husband and I guessed it was some sort of method to control
the birds to keep them away from people. (?)

12.221 | CBR charges up-front | WRKSYS::LHAGEN | Laissez les bons temps roulez! | Wed Apr 30 1997 11:21 | 11 |
| On this last trip, we spent 5 nights at CBR and 3 nights at WL.
One thing we noticed on our CBR bill - they charged us for all 5 nights
on the day we checked in. Boom - one big lump charge. Then, for each
day, the itemized bill showed only the charges me made using our resort
ID. This seemed kind of sneaky to us - if we wanted or had to check out
sooner than expected, we would have had to request a refund.
Our bill from the WL showed that they charged us one night at a time.

| They did that to me too. When I checked in they immediatly sent through a
charge for the length of stay passes and then another for the nights we
planned on being there. I figured all the WDW resorts did it. Interesting
that the more expensive ones don't...

| When you checked in, your CC was hit with a charge for the LOS, however, the
actual paperwork associated with the charge isn't forwarded to the bank until
checkout. At checkout you have 1 of 2 options: if nothing changed, then just
send in the paperwork. If something did change, then void the original
transaction and do a new transaction.
It's my impression that hotels can do some pretty sophisticated stuff with CC's,
beyond simply your single sale transaction - if they choose to do so. I'm going
to guess that FW took this approach - your CC had a charge on it for the LOS,
then as each day elapsed, that transaction was decremented by the price for that
day and then a new transaction was entered for that cost. This has a benefit to
the hotel in that they start getting their money sooner, rather than only after
you checkout.

| re .223
What you said is how you would think it worked, but, the fact of the matter is,
my charge account was hit for LOS and the room charges on the day I checked in.
It appeared on my statement (meaning it figured into my daily balance for
finance charge computations) on the day I checked in. On the day I checked out,
there was a third charge for everything I charged to the room (the biggest
charge ;^)).
The more I think about this, I don't like it. The LOS I understand, but I
shouldn't pay for the room until I use it.

| Check your posting and transaction dates on the item in question. If the
posting date is a few days after you checked out, then they probably did wait
until the end of your stay before sending the paperwork on to the bank. If the
posting date is just a few days after the transaction date then they didn't (or
you had a short stay). Hopefully your card company provides you with both dates
on your statement.
|
12.226 | | PATRLR::MCCUSKER | | Wed Apr 30 1997 18:31 | 12 |
| They provide both transact and post dates.
Transact date = post date = day I checked in for both the room charge (all days)
and LOS passes.
Transact date = post date = day I left for other items charged to my room.
I'd be glad to show you the statement.
I recognized what they were doing at the time I checked in. I questioned them
on it and while I can't quote the conversation, it was quite clear that they
want the money up front.

just as a data point to this discussion.
My last trip in January 1996, we stayed 3 nights at
the Contemporary. They charged the complete charge
once, at the end of the stay.
so far we have
CBR - all room charges up front
WL - 1 night charge at a time
Contemporary - all charges at checkout.
I have heard that every resort is managed seperately
in terms of discounts, room availability, etc, so I guess
they each have instituted their own charging methods.
Maybe the CBR had a high incidence of room charges rejected
at the end of the stay, so they decided to start charging
for the whole stay up front. Who really knows...
>>This seemed kind of sneaky to us - if we wanted or had to check out
>>sooner than expected, we would have had to request a refund.
If you had to check out sooner than your reservation listed aren't
you bound by the 1 night charge rule for lack of timely cancellation?
I'm not sure what their policy is on this, as I've never had to
cut a long reservation short at WDW.

I believe you. It's just that the data wasn't supplied, and it's a mistake I
used to make (not understanding the difference between transaction and posting).
Like you, I don't know if I like the approach CBR takes, but if a refund was
needed (and allowed) it doesn't seem like it wold be all that difficult to
process - I've had refunds given right back to the credit card and they show up
as a refund credit.
Ah well.
