| My husband, sister and her husband are going to put our down-payment
on the Star Princess for next year. We received so many brochures
from the travel agent and we had quite a time deciding on whether to
take the Princess cruise or the Royal Caribean one. The deciding
factor was that the Princess has larger rooms (RC had 4 drawers & a
hanging space). This is our 1st cruise and though so many people had
said that the room did not mean all that much - it did make a deciding
difference. The difference in price was less than $100 - we went for
the gusto.
Has anyone else been on the Star - and if so, can you tell me something
about your experiences?
Thanks!
Jean

| I think you made a great choice!!
The Star is our favorite ship. We have sailed on NCL, RCCL and
Princess, and this ship (our first ;-)) remains our favorite. We did
the Southern Caribbean in November and found that the old girl has aged
extremely well.
The ship has an incredible amount of deck space and we never had
trouble finding deck chairs near the pool, in either sun or shade. On
the Sovereign of the Seas especially, the area around the pools is
alway packed in like sardines. Embarkation and disembarkation move
quickly and smoothly, shore excursion and tendering move along with
almost no waiting in lines.
If you have any specific questions, give me a call.

 -< Princess is so-so >-
My wife and I have taken 7 cruises and two of them were Princess
ships. We took the Star princess two years ago. The Princess ships had
the best rooms a large decks but that's it. The food (English cook based)
is so-so. The buffets were lousy. The entertainment was not as good as
the Royal Carribbean, Norwegean or Carnival lines. There was also no
entertainment Friday nights (night before final arrival) on either
Princess cruise. All the other cruises we took had great final evening
parties on the top deck. I will not take Princess again.
I've taken 8 cruises, and just returned from the Crown
Princess last week. I've been on Royal Carribbean three
times, and Princess three times. I like Princess, I would
never go on Royal Carribbean again. I'd rather have dental
surgery than let Royal Carribbean make air reservations for
me.
All the Princess cruises that I have been on had
entertainment on the last night.
But, I don't think this means Mr. Lampros is in any way
wrong. As far as I can tell, cruising is one of the most
subjective things you can do. What one person likes, the
next person will hate. What one person thinks is funny, the
next will think is crude. What one person thinks is
important, the next won't even notice.
Royal Carribben certainly had the best entertainment that
I've seen. But, that was on the SOS. With 2500 people to
amortize the cost, it should be good. Unfortunatly, at some
point those 2500 people will also be in front of you in some
line. Probably all of them. For some reason, when we were
on the SOS, every passenger had to appear before
immigration/customs. The line went the full length of the
ship, and halfway back. It was so slow that they made a
special line for old people, who couldn't stand that long.
It's not something I'm anxious to pay money to do again.
After customs, they let all 2500 people off the ship at the
same time. What a zoo.

My husband and I were on the Star Princess last Dec. and just loved it.
We left from San Juan and cruised to the Southern Carb. The food was
excellent and the shows we went to were enjoyable. We had an Outside Cabin
on the Fiesta Deck and just loved it. The cabin was quite large - about
140 sq feet, equipped with a safe, refrid. and queen size bed. There was
fresh fruit brought in everyday and our bed turned down at night with a mint
on the pillow every night. We made alot of good friends and I guess we were
spoiled with the Star. We are looking into another cruise for this coming
Dec. but haven't booked anything yet. Have a great time - we did.

| Thank you to everyone. We put our downpayment last night - now we
only have 50.5 weeks 'til we go. We are leaving from Ft. Lauderdale
and taking the advice of some of the noters, have made arrangements
to fly down the day before and stay at one of their hotels. This
promises to be a vacation to remember.
You are right on about different people liking different things,
when we went to Disneyworld, some people advised us to stay away
from Epcot - it was boring, etc. It is our favorite! Someday
we will go again and try the new Studio ??? they have opened in
the last couple of years.
Again - thanks for all the advice. You have been a great help!
I read the notes at lunch and print them out for my husband -
he doesn't have an account (he *is* an employee).
Best regards,
Jean & Ken
