509.0. "Disabled persons on cruise ship info" by 29922::BOOTH () Fri Sep 23 1994 09:42

I have been asked by someone on the internet rec.travel.cruises
news group to post within DEC if anyone has ANY information or articles
on handicapped people going on cruises. I remember reading an article in
some magazine about this but I cannot find it.

	Thanks,

	Steve,

In a past issue of Cruise Travel Magazine they listed ships
and the cabins and services available to people with disabilities.
If it would be helpful, I could check to see which month/yr it
was in and maybe sent you a copy of the article.

I also get cruise travel and looked in all my issues but could not
find it. I remember a picture of a bunch of people in wheelchairs and that's
what I was looking for. Maybe that picture was in some other mag and I should
look for an article instead. Do you remember a picture like that ?

	Thanks,

509.3Rating ChartDNEAST::MCLAUGHLIN_PFri Sep 23 1994 13:5914
        Steve,

No, I don't remember a picture. This was a chart listing several
different cruise lines and their ships that offer special cabins
for the disabled. The chart also listed wheelchair access to
parts of the ship such as observation deck, width of doorways,
shower size, and rated the ships. I remember the chart being
two pages. I'll check my magazines over the weekend and see
what the month/yr was. If you're like me, you keep all of the
        past issues.

I remember that RCCL Monarch has a schematic of each floor which shows
2 to 4 Handicap Access rooms on certain levels. You may want to check
around and ask the travel agents or cruise agencies. The Monarch
Handicap Access rooms were larger, typically near elevators and had
larger bathrooms/doorway accesses. <disclaimer - this is all from
memory so there may be more or less than claimed>

       Steve,

The article and chart are in the Feb. 93 issue of Cruise Travel
magazine and is entitled, "Cruise Guide for the Disabled". It
is on pages 65 though 72.
