423.0. "Crown Princess - recent voyages" by DNEAST::MCLAUGHLIN_P () Thu Feb 04 1993 10:34

Has anyone been on the Crown Princess recently? My husband
and I are booked for the Western Caribbean April 10th and
would enjoy hearing any comments regarding your impressions
of the ship, crew, dress, and islands. I read note 264 and
a few others but did not see any notes on the Crown Princess
recently. We enjoy cruises where people dress elegantly during
the evening. Also, I have always wanted to visit the Mayan ruins
and would like any information on Tulum in Cozamel.

        Thank you,
        Patty

Patty,

<< the evening. Also, I have always wanted to visit the Mayan ruins
<< and would like any information on Tulum in Cozamel.

Tulum is on the main land, not on the island of Cozumel. The ships
usually will offer a tour to Tulum though. If you take the tour
(which I highly recommend), the ship will drop anchor very early in
the morning off the coast and those going on the Tulum tour will take
a tender to shore; the ship then proceeds to Cozumel.

The bus tour to Tulum is a long one and includes a stop at a lagoon
nearby to swim. For me, climbing the pyramid at Tulum will always be
a highlight of my travels.

At the end of the tour, transportation by high speed boat is provided
to Cozumel. Where you can either go back to the ship or shop awhile
in town.

I agree that Tulum is well worth the visit. It really is beautiful.
I was there twice. The first year we went the place was packed, so
we returned the following year. This time it was practically empty
but several of the buildings were roped off, so you couldn't climb up
the pyramid. It looked like they were doing some restoration work so
maybe that was the reason. Regardless, I'm sure you will enjoy it.

	re: .1 and .2

Thank you both. We have a guide of the tours that will be
available and Tulum was the one that we picked over the
shorter tours because I want the experience to last as long
as possible. I am excited about seeing a pyramid and really
appreciate hearing it was a positive experience for you.
I called the Maine State Library this morning and was told
they have about 40 books I can read on the Mayan ruins.
