    I'm going on a crusie in November and would like to know if anyone out
    there has some good tips on any of the following ports I'll be
    visiting.

    	- Barbados
    	- Trinidad
    	- Granada
    	- San Martin

    Thanks,
    Jim :)

391.1Barbados, St. MaartinVMSSG::KILLORANTue Aug 25 1992 10:1027

    We took a cruise April of 91. The ship stopped at
    Barbados and St. Maartin. I cannot tell you about
    Trinidad or Granada.

    In Barbados you can shop in Bridgeton. We found great buys
    on Crystal and China. There is also a party boat called
    the Jolly Roger that provides lots of rum drinks, music,
    dancing. They take you to a beach, or you can snorkle.
    There is a submarine (I forget the name) excursion
    also that looked very interesting, but about $60.00 US
    per person. Last but not least you could rent a Moke
    (Jeep) and drive around the island. The island is small
    enough that you could do it pretty easily.

    In St. Maartin has two sides French and Dutch. We signed up
    for a snorkling trip on the French side. We were disappointed
    because the water was murky and the fish were not very colorful.
    Not sure if this was caused by a storm out at sea. We have snorkled
    in St. Thomas and Mexico where the fish were incredible.

    You may want to check out the Holiday Travel notesfile for more
    information on the islands that you will be visiting.

    Enjoy your trip.

391.2BAJAN QUEEN IN BARBADOS!!!MSBCS::KELLYTue Aug 25 1992 12:578
    In Barbados, we went on the Bajan Queen party boat!! I'm telling you,
    this was one of the highlights of the whole week!! It was so much
    fun!! The only thing is is that I didn't get to see any of Barbados
    because the party boat is right next to the ship, and by the time I got
    off, well, that Rum Punch really did a number on me so I had to sleep
    it off!!! But it was well worth it!! We had a BLAST!!!!

    Have a great time!!!
391.3Grenada - Rum RunnerACESMK::HIGGINSTue Aug 25 1992 18:088
    In Grenada, we enjoyed the Rum Runner. It is a two-tiered boat that
    cruises in the harbor, serves a spiced rum drink all day, and docks for
    a few hours at a remote beach. They allow a few natives on the beach
    to sell spices. One carried a guitar and invented songs about the
    people on the beach (R-rated lyrics....) They had a steel drum band
    aboard and a limbo contest. We had a GREAT time!

391.4More on Rum RunnerABSISG::POIRIERWed Aug 26 1992 11:596
    Hey Kelly... yes we had a great time on the Rum Runner didn't we.
    Watch out for that rum punch though. It sneaks up on you. But I
    wouldn't know about that! And don't forget limbo contests can be
    dangerous to your health ;-)

391.5St. Martin/St. Maarten InfoJUPITR::TODDTue Sep 01 1992 12:2457
    	First St. Martin or St. Maarten [French & Dutch] ?

    	I would bet your coming into to Philipsburg, St. Maarten. When we
    	were there this past March for a week, this is where we saw most
    	of the cruise ships.

    	Second question, How long are you in port. 8am to 4 pm ?? or over
    	night ? It quite depends on how much you will be able to see.

    	Phillipsburg (Dutch) is the big town on the southeastern side of the
    	island, Marigot (French) is a big town on the northwestern side of
    	the island. It was part of the mystique and magic of this island
    	for us to wander between the two co-habitant cultures. We rented a
    	car the second day, and circled the island in a little over 2 hrs.
    	You can drive or be driven between Phillipsburg & Marigot in less
        than 30 minutes.

    	Things to do:

    	* Sail to St. Barts and back on a racing Catamaran. They schedule
    	  around cruise ship ports of call...You can pick one up in the
    	  marina on the way into Phillipsburg from the dock. This was
    	  truly GREAT !! Lots of Heineken (BUD to them) and Rum Punch.
    	  What a feeling of being on the water!! [$50 p/person]

    	* Go to the top of Point (sorry can't remember), but its the peak
    	  of the tallest mountain on the island. Its a really beautiful
    	  to ascend to the top and look out over the entire island.
    	  It takes 2 hrs to go see it and return to Phillipsburg. [$Free$]

    	* Visit the ruins of the fortress in Marigot. If you included it
    	  along with the Point "such'n'such" it would only add 1 hr.[$Free]

    	* Plenty of Party boats...You can do just about anything on these
    	  tour boats: [$10p/p to $50, you generally get what you pay for]

    			- Circle the Island, while drinking punch
    			- Land on Nearby Island, while drinking punch
    			- Go St. Barts, while drinking punch
    			- Go Fishing, while drinking punch
    			- Go Snorkeling, while drinking seltzer

    	* Zillions of shops in both Phillipsburg & Marigot.

    	Most of these things cost money...If I had just spent a bundle on
    	a cruise. I would get a small group together (2-3 couples) flag
    	down one of the mini-van taxi's in Phillipsburg. Negotiate a fare
    	to take you all to the Peak, and the Ruins in Marigot, then to the
    	center of Marigot let him go, walk around, have lunch, shop, til
    	you've seen enough. Hire a taxi to take you back to Phillipsburg
    	and spend the rest of the afternoon walking around Phillipsburg
    	shopping, sampling local exotic concoctions or the cheap Heinekens.
    	Hop back on the boat in the late afternoon.

    	Good Luck, have a good time,
