311.1 | Pace Yourself
| REGENT::PITTS | | Mon Sep 09 1991 12:35 | 13 |

It really depends on your priorities. On our last cruise, my husband and I
had first seating and we found the pace a little rushed. For our next cruise
in January on the Song of America, we chose 2nd seating. I think this will
give us a little more time to relax after tours and such.
Also, even though we had first seating on the last cruise, we never had
the hunger OR the energy to make it to the Midnight buffet. We forced ourselves
the last night, just so we could take pictures.
Have Fun,

311.2 | Midnight? Who knows??? | LUNER::DOIRON | | Mon Sep 09 1991 13:29 | 10 |
| Gosh, we opted for the first seating also thinking that we'd have an
appetite for the midnight buffet. Sensibly thinking about it though, I
have to wonder how many we'll be awake for.
Sailing Saturday for Bermuda, can't wait as this is our first cruise.
I am concerned about that new hurricane (Danny) forming? Any thoughts
folks?

311.3 | Fan of the 2nd seating... | KOALA::FAMULARO | Joe MS:ZKO3-2/X07 DTN381-2565 | Mon Sep 09 1991 13:54 | 16 |
| Second seating is my choice. We enjoy the brief time when all the
first seating passengers are down in their cabins getting ready for
dinner and all the public areas on the ship, especially the pool, are
much less crowded and quite. Nice time of the day to enjoy a cocktail.
Also, enjoy later seating breakfast and lunch. We're not big eaters
at the midnight buffets. Usually a sweet, piece of fruit and a cup of
coffee is it.
On the Crystal Harmony they did something I wish all ships would do.
Instead of having the Grand Buffet at midnight they had it at lunch
time. This way everybody could enjoy it. People were hungry, awake,
not in the casino...etc. Every other passenger I spoke with liked the
way they did this also. The other nights they had the buffet at
midnight.

311.4 | check port times | NODEX::BERNSTEIN | | Mon Sep 09 1991 14:12 | 13 |
| Hi,
Check the times you leave the ports. On our Caribbean cruise we were
in port till 5 or 6 each night, so took the late seating so we wouldn't
be rushed. In Alaska, we left port by 4 each day, so we did the early
seating - no problem with being rushed. The early breakfast (6 AM on
the last day!) was tough though. Both ways worked out fine. I
managed to make, and EAT, at the midnight buffets no matter which
dinner seating we had.
Have fun,
Sharon

311.5 | Fisrt vs. Second | BOOVX2::B_ALLEN | | Mon Sep 09 1991 14:54 | 8 |
| The first seating has advantages, the first being you eat breakfast
earler in the morning which allows you to start your tours and go
ashore earler.
Since I am a morning person anyway I perfer the first seating.
I did find a solution to the first vs. second seating, that being
sailing on cruise ships that have only a single seating.

311.6 | One Vote for Late, -jer | CAPITN::VASQUEZ_JE | ripple in still waters... | Mon Sep 09 1991 16:15 | 7 |
| We always opt for the late seating in an attempt to avoid children and
the very, VERY elderly. The one drawback for us is that by the time we
finish dinner, 10:30 or so, and see the late show, we almost never are
up in time to see the sunrise. (We have taken to setting the alarm on
one or two mornings, followed by a nap on deck, just so we can enjoy
the beauty of the early morning!

311.7 | Early vs. Late ??? | USPMLO::NOLAN | | Mon Sep 09 1991 17:07 | 10 |
| We have been on 2 cruises and have chosen the late seating for both.
I think that next time we go we will go to the earlier seating because
you are just not hungry to go to the midnight buffet and you get out of
dinner so late to rush to the shows. I would think that if you come
back from port and put yourself on somewhat of a schedule that you will
be able to make the early seating and then have something to eat at
midnight. I have never seen the midnight buffet. My husband saw it on
the last cruise simply to take pictures. To each their own I guess.

311.8 | A vote for early seating. | BSS::J_DAVID | | Fri Sep 13 1991 12:31 | 12 |
| We always take the early seating for 2 main reasons:
1. We are hungry by 6:00 P.M. and wouldn't want to wai till 8:00 or
8:30 P.M.
2. It enables us to go to the early show and still leaves us plenty of
time for evening activities like casino, bars, and other
entertainement.
As far as breakfast, they always serve breakfast and lunch on the deck
for many hours. We use the dining room just for dinner. Breakfast on
the deck is fast and lets you hit the beach as soon as possible.

311.9 | Late seating | SWSEIS::WHALEN | | Mon Sep 16 1991 17:44 | 8 |
| I'm for the late seating myself. I like having time from
5-7ish to relax, shower, and have a few cocktails with
my husband. We were almost always too full for the midnight
buffet, but we'd stuff food down anyway (hey, you're on vacation,
right)!!

311.10 | late night | ODIXIE::RHARRIS | only one shot, please! | Thu Sep 19 1991 14:22 | 11 |
| If you're the family type, early seating. If you are the early to bed,
early to rise type, early seating. If you are like me, party, stay up
until 4 am, don't care about sunrises, casino, dance, lido deck
partying and watch the moon sink in the caribbean, i say late night.
With late night, you are not rushed after hanging by the pool, etc
prior to dinner. You can have your own cocktail hour on the lido deck
etc. Just whatever your preference is. I do like the late night
though.
