I don't normally read this conference, but I'm starting to look for information for a cruise my brother and I will be sending our folks on for their 40th anniversary in 1993. We'd like to send them to Alaska. I've read all the notes in here and the ALASKA conference and gotten some good info. BUt I have a couple of specific questions. Does anyone know how I would go about finding any type of special discount offered to AARP members and if I could get the discount if the trip was for them since I'm not retired yet but they are? Also, they live in Phoenix so the trip will have to originate from there. Can travel agents in Mass. do anything about booking a trip from Phoenix, or should I work with an agent from there? One last question, I know that early bookings can mean some good dsicounts. How early can I book for an August 1993 cruise? Thanks for any help. Debbie

>Does anyone know how I would go about finding any type of special discount >offered to AARP members and if I could get the discount if the trip was for >them since I'm not retired yet but they are? You may want to call AARP but I'd also call other discount cruise agents and check with other travel agents on prices. >Also, they live in Phoenix so the trip will have to originate from there. Can >travel agents in Mass. do anything about booking a trip from Phoenix, or should >I work with an agent from there? The location of the travel agent is only of concern if you'd like to be able to walk in and see the agent face to face. Although living in New Hampshire, agents in Florida, California, Missouri, and Mass have booked cruises for us and in all cases everything has gone quite smoothly. You do want to make sure you are dealing with a reputable agent. You can request of any agent, a letter of recommendation by the cruise line you are booking with as well as information from the Better Business Bureau. All of the agents I've dealt with were happy to supply any information I needed. >One last question, I know that early bookings can mean some good dsicounts. >How early can I book for an August 1993 cruise? 15 months to 1 year in advance. It really depends when the lines have their itineraries and prices solidified. | |||||
