268.0. "Song of America - RCCL" by REGENT::PITTS () Tue Mar 12 1991 11:26

Does anyone have any recent experiences on the Song of America?

I checked dir/tit, but the most recent entry on this ship is from
    1989.

We just put a deposit on a Jan. 92 sailing to the Western Carribean.

    Some questions are:

How is the size of the ship compared to other RCCL ships?
    How is the service, lately?
Is there a health center on board?

Any comments or information on any aspect of this cruise would
be appreciated. Also, how are the shore excursions on the Western
    Route?

    Thanks,

    LeeAnne

    LeeAnne,

Song of America was their newest ship before Sovereign. I've always
heard good things about it, besides I don't think you can go wrong with
RCCL. I've sailed to the Western Carribean twice and it has some of
my favorite port of calls (Cozumel and Grand Caymen).

    Enjoy,

I was on the Song of America last year and my parents were on it a
couple of months ago. She is smaller than the Sovereign of the Seas
but she is a large ship. She was able to pull into all the ports except
Labadee and Grand Cayman where she had tenders go back and forth
picking up passengers (no docking facilities at either place).
She was very clean and there were lots of places to relax on deck
where there were only a few other passengers. For the most part then
crew was friendly and anticipated everything. (We did have a rude
waiter in the dining room the first couple of meals but that changed
quickly enough.) I would sail her again. The only other line I have
sailed recently was Cunard (not the QE II)and there was no comparison -
    RCCL gets my vote.

LeeAnne, I am booked on the Song of America leaving port April 21,
1991. (26 days) This is my husband's and my 4 cruise, we always
cruised on the Carnival line - 1st cruise was the Mardi Gras, 2nd &
3rd were on the Celebration. I loved the Carnival line, but we
decided for a change for comparison for our next cruises.

I'll fill you in when we return. We should have a good time, 18 of our
relatives and friends are joining us on this trip.
