266.0. "Communications to/from cruise ships" by CGHUB::JANEB (See it happen => Make it happen) Mon Mar 11 1991 13:55

How do you communicate with someone on a cruise ship, in an emergency
for example. I'd like to leave instructions for my family so that they
can reach me if they need to.

I'm going on Emerald Seas / Admiral Cruises, out of Miami to the Bahamas.

If I need to call home (NH), what is the best way?

Thanks for any info.

Along with my cruise documents came a little , 2 part card from AT&T
advertising AT&T High Seas Radiotelephone Service. One portion you
carry on board with you. All it tells you is that you can call from
the ship's radio room, and to be sure to ask the ship's radio officer
    for AT&T because it's cheaper.

The other side of the card is to leave at home with whoever would have
to call you in an emergency. I don't have that part with me; I already
gave it to a relative. There are spaces on the card to fill out your
ship's name, your cabin number, and something else (I can't remember
what). There are instructions as to how to reach you on board on the
    card.

Since we have elderly relatives, I feel better knowing I can be reached
    if anything unexpected happens.
