259.0. "NCL SEAWARD 3/3/91 - HELP!!" by GRANPA::DCOMBER () Fri Feb 08 1991 11:48

    Hi all...

Is anyone planning on cruising the NCL SEAWARD on 3/3? Or, better
still, has anyone sailed on this ship before?

My husband just surprised me with this cruise (I still can't believe
it). I've cruised before, but never on NCL.

I'm looking for helpful hints about the Seaward and the western
    Carribbean. Thanks!!

My wife and I went to the western carribean last winder and found that
if you don't like the water, you might not like the cruise. The
western carribean cruises are better known for the water sports than
anything else. We found that Ohco Rio to be very dirty and the people
always begging on you to by something...street venders. The Dunes
River Falls very the best thing on the island. (I heard that the local
police give $100 to the locals to turn in drug trafficers. There have
been reports that they will slip a packet on cocaine in your pocket
    just to get the money.)

The best part on the cruise was Grand Caymen Island. The town was very
friendly and the shopping was good. As far as the prices were concern,
you can get better prices in St. Thomas.

In all, the western carribean was not all that the eastern carribean
is...but when your away from the phones and work, who cares.

    Have fun...

    I agree.

I thought the best part was the private island. If only the cruise
stopped there twice, at the beginning and end of the cruise.

I sailed the Seaward this past December. The ship is beautiful. It
has 2 dining rooms. The four Seasons and the Seven Seas. The Seven
Seas is a prettier room however, very noisy. We had our room switched
to the 4Seasons. Which was a quieter, smoother dinner.

Ocho Rios: The best thing to do is the falls. Climbing it was a trip.
An experience not to be missed.

As mentioned in a previous note, the drug situation is pretty bad
there. What we were told happens is someone will sell you drugs, then
go find a police officer and turn you in for having the stuff. The
    dealer makes money all around!

Cozumel was fantastic. Shopping, snorkeling and all. You're due on
the ship at 11:30 p.m. so PARTY! If you're into a really wild fun
time do not miss visiting Carlos N Charlies. A truly nutty, fun place.

    Pleasure Island was fun.

All in all though I think I would prefer to do the Eastern Car. again.
    MORE SHOPPING, BETTER PRICES!!

You will enjoy it though, especially if you are into water sports.

    Keep us posted.

We will be doing Dunns River Falls next week. Can you take a camera
with you or do you get too wet?

The guides (folks who walk up the falls with you) will carry your
camera, take pictures of you (and/or whatever you want) and keep
    your cameras dry.

    Enjoy

Kodak has got a camera called the Weekender that is waterproof!!! We
took it with us up the falls and the pictures came out great.

Have a good time and count the t-shirt shops that they take you around
to get to the falls...what a marketing technic!!!

As mentioned, the guides will take your camera and take pictures for
you, however, do not carry anything with you that you do not want to
get wet. Because, YOU WILL GET WET, and love every minute of it. Make
sure you wear sneakers or something with rubber soles. This helps your
traction. Have a great time. Gee, I wish I were going!!

Also remember to bring along tip money. The guides will carry your
camera and take pictures. They also expect compensation at the end of
    the climb.
