| I went on a Caribbean cruise during Christmas, 1989 on the New Shoreham
II based out of Warren, Rhode Island. It holds only 100 passengers so
it is a family type atmosphere. Dining tables are family style and
seats are not assigned so you can table hop and get to know everyone.
During the Christmas vacation we had people of all ages from 12 years
up to 85 years old. Ordinarily, I think they cater mostly to upper
middle aged people.
They have a wonderful invention/patent called a bow landing. The ship
can go right up onto a deserted beach area and put down a ramp and the
passengers can walk right out onto the beach! You don't need a water
taxi.
You don't need to buy any new clothes because it is a very casual
atmosphere. Course the food was just wonderful!
Perhaps this is not what you are looking for in a cruise but it may be
of some interest to others. From May through Oct. this company has a
2 ships that cruise up the East Coast, stopping at points of interest
along the way; then through the Saint Lawrence Seaway,
stopping at Montreal and Quebec; and then they go back to the VI's and
the other ship goes to Berleze.

I'm very much interested in having more information about the New
Shoreham II. We would be going the last week in February (1991).
What is its itinerary? Do you book through regular travel agents
or is there a direct address to write to for information?
We are always looking for something a little different than the usual
Caribbean cruises and this sounds interesting.
Thanks for any info you can provide. (If you prefer, you can send me
mail at TLE::BENTLEY.)

For those that are interested the American-Canadian Lines (New Shoreham
II) has an 800 number--800 556-7450. My daughter used to be the cruise
director, so tell them Jennifer sent you.
Happy sailing!
