169.0. "Cruise from Miami to Bahamas???" by NSKILL::DOIRON () Mon Nov 06 1989 08:33

I have heard that there is a ship that goes out of Miami to the Bahamas
for around $89. Has anybody heard about this? We are going to Florida
in the Spring and thought we might take a few days and go to the Bahamas.
Has anyone done this? Any info, ie, cost, can you stay a few days and
still be able to cruise back, etc., would be appreciated.

Thanks,

    Loraine

    Yes, Gary Hart was on this boat "Monkey Business" a while back and
    loved it. Gave it high ratings.

169.2You want a bus, not a cruise shipVINO::FLEMMINGNo reason, just policyTue Nov 07 1989 03:536
    Cruise lines are primarly in the business of cruising, i.e., you
    don't normally consider them as providing transportation from point
    A to point B. However, I'm sure there must be ferries (much like the
    ferries to Martha's Vineyard) which travel between Miami and the
    Bahamas.

169.3Sea Escape to FreeportNSKILL::DOIRONTue Nov 07 1989 09:578
    I just spoke to Crimson Travel and they said the the "Sea Escape"
    is the name of the ship that cruises out of Miami to Freeport.
    The Sea Escape costs around $105 round trip. They also have packages
    which he is going to send me info on. He is also going to send
    me info on the Carnival line because it might be more feasible to
    go on a mini cruise and stay on the ship.

    sea escape sure is the one...i took it a few years ago..took about 5
    hours to get there and you did get one meal...can get some deal on it
    by looking around the newspapers once you get down there..for something
    like $99 (might have been $199 but i really don't think so) you get
    the cruis over and two nights lodging on freeport...the cruise itself
    was nice..the ship was kinda small and parts of it actually 'smelled'
    ..getting off the ship took well over and hour due to customs..then
    we took a taxi to our hotel inland and after waiting in line for no
    LESS than 2 hours the slower-than-death receptionist told us that
    they had no more rooms and they set us up in another hotel around the
    corner...neither place was anything to write home about...i WOULDN'T
    do it again...if you can get a deal where you stay on the ship
    (carnival) i'd go for that one!....oh ya...same routine trying to leave
    the island also! hours to check out...port charges that nobody had told
    us about..customs again..fun,fun,fun...!

    Thanks for the info, I am having second thoughts. I still haven't
    received the info yet from Crimson. I will let you'all know the
    outcome if we go. Thanks again.
