15.1 | How much of a cost cut? | STAR::APPELLOF | Kathy Appellof | Thu Aug 18 1988 09:50 | 9 |
| For clarafication purposes...did your brother-in-law pay $1200 total
for all three people who went, or was it $1200 each? I belong to
one of those $40/year vacation clubs and just got a quote for the
Song of Norway for $1158/per person on a $1500 room. But, that
was not for a short notice cruise.
Thanks.

15.2 | DISCOUNT CRUISES | BPOV06::TORTORELLI | | Thu Aug 18 1988 09:51 | 31 |
| I have the names of two travel clubs that handle on discount cruises.
There is no membership fee,so you could write to them or call them.
They are: South Florida Cruises
2069 N. University Drive
Fort Lauderdale, FL 33323
Tel. 800-327-SHIP
Spur of the Moment Cruises
10780 Jefferson Boulevard
Culver City, CA 90203
Tel. 800-343-1991
I have heard of Carnival's discount program. You book and pay for
a cruise at a much lesser price and a specific week. They let you
know which ship you will be going on shortly before the cruise.
Does anyone else know anything about this?
When we were in Florida this spring the Sunday papers were loaded
with cruises at unbelievable prices and on all the big name lines.
We have been on two cruises, The Rotterdam/Holland American and
the Festival/Carnival line. It seems alot of people have been on
those two lines. The Rotterdam is luxury and the Carnival is fun
and more informal. The food is much better on the Rotterdam and
the ship is huge.
Have fun whatever you do. Let us know if you find out anything
about the discount cruises.

15.3 | Early booking discount on RCCL | GEMINI::GIBSON | | Thu Aug 18 1988 15:00 | 13 |
| If you prefer to be able to plan in advance, RCCL offers discounts
of between 5 and 20% on cruises if you book at least 6 months in
advance. The amount of discount depends on the season -- popular
vacation time or not. The one cruise I have taken was on their Song
of America at 20% discount. It was great! My husband, who didn't
really want to go on a cruise, admitted he had a good time, too!
I'm ready to go on another one, but he wants to wait a while longer.
He said he would go again, but "not next week".
By the way, I had booked an inside cabin on the 5xxx deck (they
run 2xxx to 7xxx) and, one month before sailing, was offered a free
upgrade to an outside cabin on the 6xxx deck! Of course I accepted.
So we really saved a lot of money.

15.4 | RCCL cruise only | GEMINI::GIBSON | | Thu Aug 18 1988 16:35 | 4 |
| Oh, I forgot! Regardless of the discount you get or the price you
pay for your cabin on RCCL, $250 per person is air fare. You can
purchase "cruise only", use your own free flight tickets, and save
money. We did that and it worked out well.

That was $1200 for all three. See what I mean! but he gets six
weeks vacation! We poor folks with three have to PLAN more carefully.

I recently received a 17% discount from CRUISES, INC., 1-800-854-0500
on a March 10,1990 cruise on the SOVEREIGN OF THE SEA. This was
by far the best price I could find for this ship during the month
of March... Until I started reading this file I would have taken
the cost that my travel agent would have quoted me, I would have
not realized that calling a discount agents would result in this
kind of savings.
Thanks Joe for starting this GREAT FILE.

15.8 | Recommendation | RAVEN1::BLOUGH | | Tue Oct 03 1989 11:21 | 6 |
| I highly recommend South Florida Cruises (800)327-SHIP. We received
a 25% discount on a October 7, 1989 sailing on the SS NORWAY. Before
you call them, go to your local travel agent to pick up brochures
from the various cruise lines and decide which ones you would like
to check on. Then call South Florida Cruises, and they will give
you their prices--quite a savings!!!
