I'm looking for a good amplifying stethoscope, preferably one that
works from design, not batteries. I've found one by a major
manufacturer ($85...manufacturers name starts with an S??), but I'm open
to all suggestions. Any of you EMT's/Paramagic's have a favourite?
thanks,
jim
p.s. - I already have a sprague/rappoport type. My hearings not so good
I guess. Breath sounds in anything but the quietest room are almost
impossible.

I personnally like the Littman Cardiology series -- I own a Littman
Cardiology II. The standard "Sprague-Rappoport style" stethescopes
do not compare particularly favorably to the Littman stethescopes.
The Littman scopes use a nested double-tube for sound transmission
without picking up environmental noise, not to be confused with the
parallel double-tube design used by most of the "Sprague-Rappoport
style" stethescopes. The Littman stethescopes do not require batteries.
The Littman Cardiology II has far better sensitivity and selectivity
than the standard "Sprague-Rappoport style" scopes I've used -- it picks
up sounds, but blocks out noise. I've been able to clearly hear lung
sounds while bouncing around over some of the local back roads.
I keep several of the circa $20 "Sprague-Rappoport style stethescopes
around (ones I regularly used prior to the Littman) -- just for those
times when somebody asks to borrow my 'scope. :-)
I'd expect to pay $100+ for one of the upper-end Littman stethescopes.
