953.0. "DEClaser 3500 does not answer anymore" by VAXRIO::MIRIAM (Unix Group - CSC/Brazil) Mon Jun 02 1997 21:24

    Hi,

I'm facing a strange printing problem.

The customer has three DEClaser 3500 connected via NIC. They can
print successfully on the three printers but, if no job is send to
them for more than 3 hours, the printers do not answer anymore. No job
is printed and ping get no answer.
The only way to solve the problem is reseting the printers.
The customer has 3 different printers and the problem happens with all
of them. There are ten Digital UNIX systems printing on them using nic
filter. One of these systems is a Pathworks server and has a service
defined for each printer. The printer affected by this problem are:
       il001air (laser1 for Pathworks)
       il002air (laser2 for Pathworks)
       il003air (laser3 for Pathworks)
The status shown in the printer display is "IDLE"

     Here is the customer's printcap:
       #
       il001air|lp|NICprinter1|il001air:\
               :if=/usr/nic/infilter:\

               :sd=/usr/net/servers/lanman/spool/laser3:

      Any ideas?

      Thanks in advance,
