I am currently working on a problem with the following config:
Unix Host (8200 Alpha) ------------/| /------------- Jet Direct Ex + 3
------------- 3 separate prtrs
|/
Frame Relay
Intermittently, the Jet Direct will return an <FF> at the lpd level to a
"Receive a printer job" lpd command ( <02>raw<0A> ) from the Unix host. HP
support tells me this is an lpd "reset". I cannot find this in RFC 1179, but
the RFC does state that anything other than <00> returned to the "Receive a
printer job" is a negative ack at the lpd level.
The Jet Direct is not doing anything at the time so I cannot figure out why
this might be happening.
Once the Unix gets the <FF>, it tears the TCP connection back down and
restarts another.
It will sometimes continue this behavior for quite some time, indefinately or
it will take right off upon retrying.
Has anyone seen this behavior, or have any suggestions on an approach I might
take? The Print Server is across the country, so a trace out there is not to
easily obtained. But, I have traces from the Unix host side.
Any suggestions or help welcome...
Best Regards,
John Malott
