Played Castlegregory on county Kerry last Saturday. The course is controversial as conservationists complained when it was built that it would disturb the breeding of Natterjack toads :-) Well they built a big water hazard in front of the 9th hole and natterjack toads have started breeding in it, so the conservationists were wrong. It was full of water, so there was no good my going in there with my white shoes again :-) In fact the golf course is good for conservation as it preseves the dunes from the criminal bulldozing of the sand dunes by irresponsible farmers going on further down the beech. This note is really only an excuse to tell you how I got on with the toads. I hit a 5-iron to two feet from the pin :-) ..Kevin..

Kevin, Sounds like a nice place ;-). And a nice shot! Probably the toads are not as bothersome as the canadian geese we have in most courses in New England. Where is county Kerry in Ireland? Care for a longer description of Castlegregory?

Will get back to you with more details, but Kerry is in the far south west of Ireland and Castlegregory is on the Bearna Peninsula, just along from where Saint Brendan sailed to America some 1500 years ago. The course is on a Sand spit between a freshwater lake and the Atlantic. The course is new, 9-hole and quite tight, but not too long. ..Kevin..

Have a look at http://ppc.rtc-tralee.ie/Castlegregory/overview.html#moretodo to get the full story of this beutiful place. BTW it is called the Dingle peninsula, I was getting mixed up. ..Kevin.. |
