2117.0. "Courses open in early 1997" by 26031::16.124.40.202::Diaz (Octavio) Wed Feb 19 1997 13:26

It's that time of the year when we (in the GMA) start travelling a
south to find open courses. Hopefully, with this kind of weather
(yesterday and today in the 50's) many courses will open for the
weekend.

So lets start listing the ones that are:

I played Poquoy Brook two weeks ago and was open this past weekend. I
will expect it to be open for this weekend.

Any other ones?

2117.1Early season golf at Lakeville CC.STRATA::SZEWCZYKWed Feb 19 1997 23:5411
    If Poqouy Brook is open,,,,i bet Lakeville CC is too
    I'm pretty sure they're both off the same exit off Rte 495 south
    I'm going to call tomorrow afternoon and check it out.

    If you never played there #16 is about a 140yd par three hitting to a
    Island green..... #17 and 18 have water come into play too...

    It's my favorite early season spot......check it out..

    	Lakeville is open but all the greens were rock hard. When we
    	played Poquoy, the greens were soft but very bumpy and hard
    	to putt.

    	The best course so far has been Ballymeade with most greens
    	accpeting shots. Very good winter conditions.

    	Blissful is also open with 3 temps.

2117.3No luck with other coursesogodhcp-124-96-171.ogo.dec.com::DiazOctavioFri Feb 21 1997 17:197
I called a couple of courses:

Maplegate: no answer
New England CC: maybe this weekend but with mostly temps
Stow Acres: don't know when they'll open. TW, they are having their little
golf fair this weekend.

2117.4Easton CC LUDWIG::SZEWCZYKSun Feb 23 1997 23:1211

     I played Easton CC last friday with a friend of mine.
     It's off rte 495 south on rte 126. About 50 minutes from Worcester.

     None of the greens were open yet but it was only 10 dollars for 18
     holes. It was a real good day too...

     I guess they're going to try and get the greens open this week if it
     doesn't get real cold again.

     Boy oh boy it felt good to get out again!!!!!!!

    re: Easton CC

    It's off Rt 138 in Easton on Purchase St. It's near Rt 123, not 126.

    Yes thats it.....

    It's on Purchase st....you can get there from the rte 138 or rte 123
    exits off 495... Either Route goes right by Purchase St.

    I think i'm going to try it agin this Thurs....if it heats up a bit..
2117.7Bay Pointe (Wareham, MA) still open...POWDML::JAYMALONEYTue Mar 11 1997 15:249
    Bay Pointe CC in Wareham (Onset Beach) has been open all year...

    No snow and the ground is soft.... the greens are a bit bumpy .

    Dress for windy conditions on most days...

Jay,

Good to hear again from the Cape Code scout.

From your note, I'm assuming that the Cape didn't get any snow
yesterday. Right assumption?
2117.9Rain/snow mix - GONE !POWDML::JAYMALONEYWed Mar 12 1997 10:0314
    Re: .8

    Tavo, we had very little snow and it's gone now.... The rain/snow
    weather has been typical for the Cape.. unlike the past few winters !

    Right now it's 45 degrees, under sunny,blue skies .

    No snow on the lower Cape either, so I am sure the courses will be busy
    this weekend...

    All tee shots stop where they land... no "winter" roll...!!

2117.10Blizzard '97 - put the clubs away...POWDML::JAYMALONEYWed Apr 02 1997 10:4312

    Well, don't ya just love New England...!

    At least 12-14 inches of snow is on the ground here in Wareham, MA...
    The golf courses will be out of commission for a while now...

    Don't bother with any trips to the Cape for golf... I'll sign in again
    	when I can see the "turf"..!

2117.12Snow is gone (again).. play resumes...POWDML::JAYMALONEYMon Apr 07 1997 11:1812

    Well, the meltdown happened very quickly... I played yesterday here
    in Wareham, MA and other than soggy ground, all fairways and greens
    were clear of snow and drying out...

    I do know that courses down in Falmouth, MA were open as well over the
    weekend.

    Bring extra towels for cleaning clubs...
