2092.0. "Blissful Meadows, Uxbridge Ma." by PIET09::DESROCHERS (psdv.pko.dec.com/tomd/home.html) Mon Jul 01 1996 08:34
A few of us played Blissful Meadows on Saturday. This is a new
course in Uxbridge, Ma. The back 9 opened this Spring - I'm not
sure when the front opened but it's very new. Within the last
2 years I'd guess.
The course was designed Geoffrey Cornish and Brian Silva and, to
me, it's easily one of their best that I've played. Much more
fun than either of the Stow Acres courses.
This is one wonderful track! At 6,000+ yards from the white tees,
it's a bit short and you often don't hit driver. The par 3's are
all in the 140-155 range from the whites. I believe the blues are
about 6550 or so. On a few holes, it made a huge difference.
As soon as you get there, you know you're at a nice place (other
than the unpaved parking lots). The clubhouse area is nice and the
practice green is terrific! Fast, undulating greens - yes! The
scorecards have yardages from the tees to the trouble as well as
the depth of the greens.
The front is obviously in better shape. It was built on a rocky,
sandy type of soil so there are a few rough spots on the back. But
don't let that stop you from playing there!
Each shot seems to make you really think. While there are no real
forced carries like New England or Shattuck, it's similar in that
the course makes you concentrate and figure out each shot. Almost
all the holes brought out positive comments. Chips and putts were
always a challenge. Some putts broke 10 feet more than we read.
Approach shots often curled to the cup or ran far away. It was
great to watch someone else's shot, realize what it did, and then
play for it.
At $28 to walk on the weekend, I highly recommend it!
Anyone else play there? Comments?
Tom

| Played the course yesterday. Previous reply is pretty accurate with
the exception of the condition of the back nine. I believe they just
opened the back this spring. The greens are in pretty good shape but
the fairways are loaded with small stones. I don't think they used
loam or sand in the fairways. When I repaired ball marks on the green,
you could definitely make contact with small stones.
The layout is really nice. There are a couple par 3's on the back that
are really going to be picturesque.
I would certainly play it again (in about 5 years) once the back has
developed.
btw: They run a weekday special. $30 gets you greens fees, cart and
lunch. Call for specifics.
