Wachusetts Country Club
=======================
(508)835-4453
Take 290 to the 140 North (W. Boylston) exit (23B, I think...)
Continue on 140 past the first signal (Route 70) and the
Wachusett Reservoir and continue into the town of
	West Boylston.
Take a left on Franklin Street (after the turn for the
Industrial Area). If you get to the second
light at the intersection of 140 and 12 you have
gone about one block too far.
Continue on Franklin Street, across Route 12, until it
dead-ends on Prospect Street. Turn left on Prospect
and WCC is about a half mile on the left.

There is at least a half a dozen public courses within 20 minutes
    of Shrewsbury.

Juniper Hills in Northboro Ma. has two courses called Riverside and
        Lakeside.

Stow Acres in Stow Ma. has two courses called North and South.
Stow is probably the most expensive.

Butternut in Stow Ma. is for walkers only no carts available.

Saddle Hill in Hopkinton Ma. is pretty easy to get to from
    	Framingham.

There are also a few courses in Worcester Ma. and somebody
already mentioned Wachusett CC. I know how to get to all of these
courses but don't know street signs and such for accurate directions.

Don't forget the 9-hole course Indian Meadows right off route 9 in
Westboro, it is probably the closest to SHR. It is wide open and in
reasonable shape for what I remember to be a reasonable price.
Coming from Framingham it is about 2-3 miles on the left side, there
    is a big sign.

Closer to Framingham there is Sandy Burr and Wayland CC both on route
27 in Wayland, and a couple of little courses, the wierd 14-hole
course Millwood Farms (difficult to give directions to) and the 9
hole Saint Mark's in Southboro between Rt 30 and 9, which I would
only play if I can't find any other place.

You need to be aware that most of the public courses have leagues
during week days, so it is difficult to play on them after work, and
that it is very busy on weekends so you need to know how far in
advance they take tee times and call them then.

I just re-read .0 and realize that you'll be here for 5 weeks. If
you read this conference you'll realize that there are plenty of
courses within one hour or so of Framingham/Shrewsbury. Both South
and North. Besides the ones already mentioned, you could try to play
some course in Cape Cod: New Seabury (If it is still open to public),
Captains, Ocen Edge, Hyannis are some that come to mind. North you
could try Sky Meadow in Nashua, New Hampshire (probably the most
expensive semi-private course around, about $65) Shaker Hills
($40-45) in Harvard, or for real treat go west to Cumping Fox or
further North to Shattuck Inn. As I said, plenty of good courses.
Most of them with green fees between $20 to $40.

| | Maybe the best thing to do is go to Nevada Bob's buy a Mass. golf map
which gives a brief description of the clubs(phone, street, town, cost, etc)
    and have at it!

| 2012.6 | Sterling CC is another possibility. | PASTA::GEWIRTZ |  | Fri May 12 1995 13:43 | 9 |
| | Most of the courses mentioned so far are pretty good. For good
golfers I would recommend Wachusset, and if you're willing to make
the trip it doesn't get much better that Crumpin-Fox. If you're
interested, I can take you out to Sterling CC which is a nice private
course about 15-20 minutes from Shrewsbury. In my opinion its much
nicer that any of the others (except maybe C-Fox). Let me know if you
    are interested.
