1991.1 | Groton Country Club, review | PCASTN::CARRELL | | Thu Feb 23 1995 15:52 | 17 |
| I've played Groton Country Club several times.
It is a pretty standard 9 hole, executive course.
o Short
o 2 short trick par-4s, maybe 3, depending on you definition of trick
o Small greens
o Very little sand
o Trees line most fairways on one side
o Tee boxes are usually scruffy (Not nearly enough area)
o Par 35, 2 par-3s 1 par-5.
o Mat driving range. (200 yrd w/ tall fence at the end)
o Accuracy and short game at a premium
I enjoy playing there, but I wouldn't make it a home course.

I played Apple only once and don't plan on going back. I was not
impressed w/ condition of course or layout. I remember quite a
bit of blind shots and tightness. OB abounds and turtlebacked greens.
Its local and cheap for good points...I can't think of any others
though. Did you check into Tyngsboro CC?

1991.3 | I've played Groton | CTHQ::SCARBER | | Mon Feb 27 1995 13:04 | 8 |
| I've played Groton and remember it to be a fairly good course, nothing
special. I live in Chelmsford where Apple Country Club is and from the
negative things I've heard about it have never even attempted to play
there. That's just heresay though.
If you do start a league will you post it here. Given that either
course is close by to me I'd be interested in joining if it's an open
membership.

1991.4 | Thumbs down on Apple; Groton, okay. | RANGER::GORCZYCA | So, what's ya point? | Tue Feb 28 1995 13:19 | 19 |
| Apple CC
I live a couple of miles away and would have troubles bringing myself
to play there even if it were free. The layout of this course is poor,
you need to watch out for large rocks just under the surface (and above
the surface) on many fairways, and the drainage is very poor on a couple
of holes so you end up with plugged balls and wet feet on nice days.
Though I've played my share of ugly courses, this one ranks in the
top 2.
Groton CC
I've played this course quite a bit. It's short and nothing special,
but you won't ruin you club hitting off the fairways and I feel it's
worth the greens fee (~$10 for 9 holes).
Just my opinions,
John
