1989.0. "New Indoor Simulator" by ABACUS::LEARY (There's coffee in that nebula!) Wed Feb 22 1995 12:35
Just played a round and a half on a Full-Swing indoor simulator.
Pro explained to me that it is based off the Links386 software
courses...Pebble,Pinehurst,Torrey Pines...etc and plays very well.
Same style mat and screen deal...you are looking essentially at the
same screens you would on your PC.
Targeting is done via your shot instead of mouse crosshairs or
rotation...ie...if you pull or push it off the tee that is the path
the ball takes plus calculated sidespin and strength.
The screen is approx 12 feet from tee mat...therefore any putt w/in
4 grids (1 yard sq) is a gimme. And a putt over that length you have
to aim at the hole on the screen and judge distance past the screen
20 ft putt=8 feet past wall. Pretty touchy actually.
Chips and pitch shots were pretty realistic and you could even get
the ball to bite from the fairway. Easily the best simulator that
I've played yet. It should be...the unit is $40,000.00. I played
it for $20/hr and hustled through a sweaty 25 holes. Mauna Lea shot
92 and Pinehurst I was +1 through 7. Window on screen tells you
your distance of shot and distance to hole and lie. You have to use
a keyboard occaisionally to accept drops, etc. This one was located
in the clubhouse at the Samoset in Maine.
