Hi Dan,
I believe that besides personal preferences, most answers will point
you to go to a reputable golf shop that has a wide selection of clubs
but most important is that they have knowledgeble staff to take a
look at your skills, stance, swing and recommend a 2-3 different
brands and then let you try them for you to make the choice based on
your feel of the clubs.
In the GMA if your looking for brand names, and $400 will get you
that, I would try Wayland Pro Shop on Rt 27. Good prices, selection
and staff. Many people feel that knock-offs are better value. There
are some names of people who build them in this notesfile.
As for name brands, if you read some of the notes here, you'll see
mentioned many brands that different players like:
Ping Zings
Cleveland VAS
Tommy Armour 845/855 (which I have and like)
Titleist DCI
Callaway
Hope this helps

I agree that you ought to visit Wayland CC and get an idea from the
pros there on your next steps. If you happen to want the Top Flight
Tour edition clubs (which I've played with for the past 2 yrs.) contact
Golf Day in Chelsea. They are selling new 1992/1993 models for $300 for
a complete set of irons, 3 through the sand wedge.
These irons are super!!
This reply is coming late but I thought I'd send it anyway. How'd
things work out for you?

I know the kind of golfer that you are, so I would recommend that you
go to yard sales and as a last resort try hitting from the other
side or pick up a junior set from TOYS R US

| 1963.4 | Consider MASTER GRIP | NOTAPC::MILLER | Fri Jan 20 1995 17:50 | 14 | |
An value you might want to look into is the set that is offered
by the mail order MASTERGRIP company. They sell a set of GRAPHITE
shafted (True Temper Black Gold, about 2.5 degrees torque) for
$199 for a 3-PW. SW is about $30 extra. Set of three metal head
woods with matching shafts is $149. UPS delivery is about $5.
AND, they offer a 30 day money back guarantee. I know several
golfers who tried them and have loved them. The iron heads are a
modified PING EYE2 copy (perimeter weighted). Unless your in a
hurry for something right now, you might want to wait until spring
when you can take advantage of the 30 day money back guarantee.
