1910.1 | BB FOR SALE! | STOWOA::ODIAZ | Octavio, Dev. Suppt. Svcs - MCS/SPS | Thu Jun 23 1994 14:36 | 18 |
| Re: <<< Note 1910.0 by WMOIS::STCYR_T >>>
War Bird refers to a little redign of the club sole, not to one
specific club. I believe that all/most Big Berthas now come with a
War Bird sole.
Most people who have the right BB love them, I am sure if you look a
little in this conference you'll find such comments. Me, I have an
BB driver without the War Bird that I bought used from an ad here.
The seller's reason for giving it up was he could hit it, well,
neither can I. It's the wrong shaft and loft for my swing. So, my
personal feedback is that you better make sure you pick up not only a
club with good recommendations but one that suits your swing/game.
Tavo
P.S. Anyone interested in a lefthanded BB driver, stiff shaft, 9
loft? good price!

| I have 3 BB Warbirds. 9 deg. driver, 3-wood, and Heaven wood. They
are easy to hit and forgiving. The WB sole plate allows for cleaner
hit from the rough, etc. They also have a slightly lower trajectory
than the previous BB's due to the center being moved up.
Get a stiffer flex than you would normally. All that being, said, I
think they are over priced, but I'm worth it.

| Oh yeah, prices. I found some of the best and worst prices at country
clubs. Prices varied as much as $35 per club. Where are you located?
If So. N.H., Pat's Ti-Tech Golf in Manchester has the best prices on
everything. Candia Woods has good prices. Amherst C.C. has some of
the worst.

1910.6 | Not for me | PEKING::ANTELLJ | | Fri Jun 24 1994 05:12 | 14 |
| I had a 10 degree BB with a regular shaft for a year it went straight
bet went so high i lost yards on previous drivers, i am very suprised
that lots of the pros use them but they do so there must be something,
It was also very easy to hit off the fairway which is unusual for a
driver so even though its 10 degrees i believe its designed for getting
the ball up in the air.
The Warbird is meant to hit it lower and i am told the shaft has been
changed.
I tried the BB and it aint for me but most people love em

Yes, the 10 degree older model goes very high and I personally
lost a surprising amount of distance.
I picked up the new War Bird 9 degree and it's much better for
me. From what I've heard tho, most of that is because of the
new RCH 90 shaft.
Has anyone played in a foursome where at least one person didn't
have a Callaway driver??

1910.9 | Try Multiple Brands Before Buying | HARBOR::COPELAND | | Fri Jun 24 1994 11:17 | 18 |
| I got my Warbird this spring and love it. It added 15 yards to my
drives. I have the stiff graphite shaft. The shaft has a mid to low
kick point so tends to give a fairly high shot. You should try both 9
and 10 degree clubs.
I tried the clubs out at Whirlaway in Methuen. They had 9,10 and 11
degree, regular and stiff shafts for hitting. They also have Cobra,
Taylor Made etc. for testing.
I thought I was going to get the Taylor Made before I hit all of them.
For my swing, the BB was the best.
So, my suggestion, try several brands multiple times before deciding.
Then, get the best price you can.
Enjoy.

1910.12 | Power Ups from Golfsmith are simular... | DNEAST::FREEMAN_KEVI | Go UMaine Hockey Black Bears! | Thu Jun 30 1994 13:32 | 11 |
| I've just built a set similar in style to the War birds, from Golfsmith. The
Driver is for sale ($65). It is 10 degree's, aldila low torque series 2.9 reg.
w/ victory 2000 grips. I like the way the ball comes off the head of the
5 wood off the rough and fairway... but the driver seems harder for me to
control, though I'm convinced it's due to my club head speed warrants a much
stiffer shaft. The heads are named Power UP's...

Beats me how they can justify their prices, but it's a Callaway.
You're going to pay for the name on this one. If, however, time proves
that this putter will cut strokes off your game, they'll sell a million
on 'em. Until then, the jury's out.
I love my Ping, but it's not always reciprocal...

look the part.

If I remember the add it wasn't the 'Warbird Putter' it was called
the 'Tuttle Putter' and I can't imagine it going for $200, that must
be a mistake? This was a Hosleless design and it had a similar face
design to the driver 'kinda oval faced' ?

The Tuttle putter is $99 at Nevada Bobs. The War Bird putter,
from the picture I saw, looks very much like a miniature
driver. Didn't Johnny Miller win at Pebble with the
Tuttle model??

| A slight digression...
Speaking of putters, I noticed that Nick Price has changed again.
Looks to me like he's using a Plop, or something resembling a Plop.
Last I checked he was using a Ping and, of course, that famous Zebra
before then. Maybe he'll try a Callaway next.
Must be the putter...

1910.20 | Putters drugs and scandal | PEKING::ANTELLJ | | Fri Jul 08 1994 09:03 | 14 |
| Peter baker the chap that putted like a god in the Ryder Cup has
switched to a Zebra, he used a B60 Ping for years now he changed.
John Daly is at it again he has given an interview to the Sun newspaper
a well known scandal rag in Britain(Alleged)
He says many tour players are on drugs and beta blockers, i have heard
a whisper that a Euro player has been on Coke for a while but this is
from a caddy on thhe tour.
Daly is doing very well wowing the crowds with his long driving
Joe

1910.21 | Daly, etc. | KOALA::DEFELICE | | Mon Jul 11 1994 10:45 | 8 |
| I get the impression that U.S. golf fans are very tolerant of Daly,
regardless of his 'antics'. The guy can only screw it up for himself.
Can't say I'm one of his fans.
Putters: Callaway's Big Bertha WB putter lists for $250 graphite and
$145 steel shaft. Geez, I can remember paying $60 for my Ping Pal 2
and thought that was a bit steep. Graphite shaft on a putter? Does it
REALLY matter?
|
1910.22 | the name is expensive | ASDG::TREMBLAY | | Mon Jul 11 1994 11:56 | 8 |
| Over $100 extra for the graphite shaft might be due to the 'S'
curve near the head. Still, it's an outrageous price. $145 for the
steel-shafted version isn't much better.
$25 for the head
$20 for the shaft and grip
$100 for the name

| Any heel and toe putter will do you , its a question of hitting the
ball on the up and square.
A Carbon shaft is used on drivers to combat torque but on a putter how
much torque can there bee.
As you guys say pay for the name,
MAx Faulkner won the Open in the 50s using a drift wood as a putter
that is a fact i saw an interview with him.
The Ping Anser has won more majors than any other putter.

I use irons that are 1inch longer than standard, and the clubs take
longer to get from a supplier if lengthened at the factory... the
IGO.com people are saying that they can "plug them" themselevs...
what does this mean and what does it do to the shaft behaviour? anyone
know?

| I think it means they add a "plug" at the grip side of shaft. This is an extension to
the shaft. I would guess the plug has an end that fits inside the shaft and then it is
glued. And because it is under the grip, you are not supposed to notice any difference.
I have never heard of anyone using this contraption. I hope someone has that can give
you actual feedback. But in principle if I am going to pay "mucho dinero" for a set of
clubs like the BB's, then I would like to have an integral shaft. I understand that you
can't wait until Calloway ships a custom set.
RE: Snow. I am hoping that most of it will melt over the weekend. Today is close to 50
degrees (8-9 celsius) and tomorrow in the 60's (15-20 celsius).

| g'day,
thanks for the replies.. I did get a reply from the people at igo.com
(international golf outlet, who I am thinking of buying the clubs from)
and they said that the shaft would be a little more flexible than
normal... which they said would increase distance, but it will also
reduce control....
I think I would prefer to get a single shaft, given the amount of $$$
parting company....
regards,
Paul.

[Subj: Callaway -- Broken Shaft RCH90 and the new RCH96 Shafts]
As an FYI, I recently broke my Warbird 10 degree firm graphite
shaft driver just below the point where the shaft enters the clubhead.
Wayland Country Club replaced it no questions asked. But, just be
careful hitting these off a mat at the range. Apparently, the graphite
shafts have trouble with the impact of hitting of a mat. I never
hit the Warbird that well, but I got the new RCH96 firm shaft and
I've been hitting much better. The new graphite shafts are worth taking
a look at if you couldn't hit the RCH90 shafts that well.

| The RCH90 is the second generation in the RCHseries of shafts, and had a
composite graphite shaft with a boron reinforced tip. This was an extremely
popular shaft for us, and will continue to perform well for those individuals
who have that shaft in their Big Bertha Woods and Irons.
The RCH96 shaft is our newest shaft, and our most responsive ever. This
shaft was developed through assigning four different design teams to our four
different flexes (light, regular, firm, and strong) and instructing them to
design a shaft which performs best for that individual swing speed. We also
took the boron out of the tip, which has created a lightweight, durable shaft
with all the soft feel a graphite shaft can offer.
