1901.0. "Looking for Mtn area courses" by CONSLT::CHAMBERLAIN () Tue May 24 1994 08:59

    Hello,

I will be camping in West Campton, NH, this weekend (same exit as
Waterville Valley) and being my 2nd year golfing, I don't really know
where to go golfing up there.

I do know of the Jack-o-lantern.. that's it though.

I would like to go somewhere casual, where PROPER dress is not
mandated, also somewhere where my step mother can play (she has never
held a club) without people getting upset.

    Any suggestions where to go?

    tahnx

Lisa,

There is a course up at Waterville Valley, but I don't know how
fussy they are about dress and beginners.

There is also White Mountain Golf Course in Ashland (right off
exit 24 of I-93). This course is owned and operated by the
same people who run Green Meadow, so I believe that they will
be accommodating to everyone. You should probably call first
and definitely get directions, its a little hard to find.

There is probably one or two more in the Plymouth, NH area. I
would stop and check a phone book when you get up there.

	Hope this helps.

    Lisa,

Waterville Valley, if they allow players that are not staying in the
resort, is OK for what you are looking for. It a very informal nine
hole course that was layed up without moving the ground too much, so
there is no big design there. The fairways are somewhat shabby and
greens were made in some unusual places, e.g. in two holes the road
crosses right in from of the green, one green is up-hill and the
    other one below the road.

I was staying there with my family and my kids (about 9 and 11 at
that time) had a ball, not by playing but by riding the cart all over
    the place.
