A few golf news tidbits.
Payne Stewart, as many of you may have already heard, has switched
spnsors from Wilson to Spauling. HIs five year deal with Spaulding
calls for him to use Top-Flite Tour clubs and balls and to carry a
Spauling bag. Wilson had offered him a five year deal for 1.5 million
per year...! SO, you can guess at what Spaulding is paying him!
Larry Nelson, remember him! He has won the US Open and the PGA
championship. He has been using Merit clubs since 1990 and he liked
them so much that he bought the company!
Michael Jordan, the newly formed Michael Jordan Golf Company ahs
announced plans to open its first golf center in 1995 in the Chicago
area. The centers will focus on attracting new golfers at a reasonable
cost. PGA of America members will run each center. Jordan will serve
on the board of directors, but is not a principal owner.
