1823.0. "Golf Shop in Marlboro,MA Area" by PAVONE::ARGENTO (The Long And Winding Road ....) Tue Jan 18 1994 06:38

Hello,

I am Augusto Argento and I work for Digital at an Engineering facility
in Italy. I will be in the States near Marlboro, MA the first week of February
and I want to seize this opportunity to buy a new set of golf clubs (my set
of Spalding Executive is dying of old age: I have already broken four shafts
while playing this year...).

My question is very simple: could someone suggest me the name of a good golf
shop near Marlboro ? A colleague told me about Nevada Bob: how good is it ?

Thanks in advance

	Augusto

Hi Augusto, yes indeed there is a Neveda Bob's in Westboro, MA. It is
a very short ride from the Marlboro facilities. I work part-time for
one of their other stores during the golf season. I was just at the
Westboro store last week. They (by looking around) did well for the
    Christmas sesaon.

I guess alot depends on what kind of clubs (set) you are looking for.

They carry a large selection ranging in price from a "starter" set all
the way up to the very expensive sets like Callaway irons/woods,
Cleveland Classics (big $$$) and so forth. Again, depending on your
ability. frequency of play should determine the amount you want to
    spend.

Clubs like the Spalding Executives can be purchased at (the world
famous) Spag's store. This too is only about a 20 minute ride
from the Marlboro area. If memory serves me correctly the Execs.
have changed somewhat and the price is about $219.00 for the irons.

Good luck...and with all the snow we had recently don't plan on
playing around while your here. Even most of the Cape Cod courses
are closed due to the poor weather as of late.

    Bob
1823.2Thanks, I will need some help on pricesPAVONE::ARGENTOThe Long And Winding Road ....Tue Jan 18 1994 09:3211
I have really no idea about the price ranges today for clubs: I have
bought my set 5 years ago.

I am 26 HCP and I tend to play (with the gracious permission of my kids ...)
20-30 rounds per year. Will a price range of 500/600 USD 'fit my
requirements' or anything good is above this price (I need 3-PW and
    1-3-5 metal woods) ?

    Thanks

            Augusto

Assuming you are right handed, you would have an excellent
selection of clubs under $500 US in the area. In addition
to the forementioned Nevada Bob's, there is also an excellent
golf shop at the Wayland CC in Wayland, Ma (about a 20 minute
drive from Marlboro) and several commericial stores (Herman's,
MVP Sports, etc.) They often have Spalding Executive or like
sets including bags under $500 US. Many stores also sell Ping
copies with excellent shafts for under $400 per set. If you
have a contact in Marlboro you might ask them to save the 4Sale
flyers from the newspaper for your perusal.

Stow Acres CC in Stow Ma is having their annual winter sale fest
on February 5th and 6th. They often have very good deals there
with personnel on hand to help fit you including an area set aside
for trying the clubs indoor. Many manufacturer reps are present.

    	Have fun shopping,
    	Walt
