1790.0. "Graphite Goof" by MSBCS::VARLEY () Tue Oct 12 1993 10:34
Some of us in this file do club work - for fun or profit. I've done it
off and on (for fun...) for quite some time, but always with metal
shafts. Recently I decided to conduct an experiment - I cut my Yonex
driver, which comes with a standard length of 45," to 44," thinking I
could control it a bit better and hit it on the "sweet spot more easily
and more often. BIG MISTAKE!! The thing is a mess - no "feel," and I
can't hit it at all. Now I have to put a graphite or plastic plug back
into it to get it back to 45," and hope for the best...
All of the club repair books I have are pretty much pre-graphite - they
have very little info on anything other than real basic stuff involving
graphite. Can anyone recommend a very recent book that is more complete
- like one of Maltby's ? A word to the wise - even if you've done club
work before, don't mess with new technology, unless you're SURE you
know what the results will be...
__Chastened,
Jack
