My brothers and I are heading for Virginia Beach in October for 4-5
days of golf. Can anyone recommend good courses in the area and the
towns they are located in so we can try and get tee-times as early as
possible. Also I assume the weather will still be OK?
Thanks,
Rick

You can try and play at Kingsmill on the James River. The PGA tour
stops there. I believer there is a course called Golden Horseshoe down
there too. Both are in the Williamsburg area, about 1 hr or so from VB.

I just came back from Williamsburg VA. I played at two courses at
Colonial Williamsgurg. The main or clubhouse name to call is the
Golden Horseshoe. They have 2 18 hole courses and 1 9 hole course.
The two 18 hole courses are beautiful. Mention that you saw an ad on
the resort channel and you get a special rate of 55 which includes
green fees and a cart. These courses are the Gold course and the Green
course. Both very nice.
Another course in the area tops the previous ones I mentioned. You
must play Ford's Colony. This is a private club but I get a time by
calling them and explaining that I was from out of town and heard many
things about them. Ford's Colony is a 36 hole course that requires a
cart simply because its a hike between the holes. You can't see
anything except the course you are playing. Marriott Hotels are
getting into the timeshare business at Ford's Colony. Maybe if you
called them and seemed interested in a timeshare tour, you could play
for free.
Have fun.

Well I'm back. Played three courses and I recommend two of them.
Best is Hell's Point. Very tough and interesting. Highly recommended.
Other was The Hampton's. This was interesting. Has three nines. You
must play the Woods course as the first 9. Then you choose either the
Links or the Lakes course for the back 9. Nice setup, you obviuosly
choose the back 9 that plays to your partners weakness!

Hells Point, Red Wing, Owls Creek, Stumpy Lake, Bumble Bee.
Hells Point is the best. Bumble Bees is excellent, Stumpy lake is
great, Red Wing isn't bad (greens could use some work). Owl Creek
is called an Excutive coarse it has some long par 5's and a 68 yrd
par 3 (if that!) but you can by a six pack from the lounge with a
bag of ice to go. Forgot Bow Creek it's pretty good. I haven't
tried Cyprus or a couple of others but I'm hoping too.
