1768.0. "This Year's Trip" by MSBCS::VARLEY () Wed Aug 25 1993 10:43

     Here are the results and comments for this year's "Golf Vacation,"
    which my pal The Judge and I recently completed.

    Pleasant Valley - Beautiful land, good shape, pretty good design (in
    general...). We played # 16 & 17 from the tips - great holes. Number 15
    seems a LOT better than I remember - tough driving picture. Shot 79.

    Mount Pleasant (Boylston, Mass.) - Played it from the tips, at around
    6750 yards. Good shape, but not up to their usual standards. Greens, as
    usual, were fabulous. Holes # 7 & * are two of the goofiest I've EVER
    played. Shot 79.

    Essex County Club - First time I played Essex. Great course - two very
    different 9s - front is fairly long, but plays shorter, back is a LOT
    of local knowledge, with some very nice holes. I LOVE courses by dead
    architects! Terrific old New England club with grass tennis courts,
    etc. I think I like Myopia a little better, because of its great front
    9, but Essex is very nice indeed. Shot 79.

    Crumpin-Fox - Took us too long to play. Started out o.k., but the pace
    of play got to me on #7, and I limped in with a score of 82. Fairways
    are as good as I've seen all year. Greens were spikey, but held well.

    The International (Bolton, Mass.) - Absolutely unbelievable pro shop
    and locker room (newly renovated - $ 3 million). This place is
    Muirfield Village East. Played it from around 6550, and it was in
    wonderful shape, but not very tough. Number 8 is still my least
    favorite hole, and there are a few other weak ones. Unbelievable land,
    just beautiful. Shot 72.

    Concord (Mass.) Country Club - One of the best courses I've seen in
    several years - best one we saw. The back 9 rough is burned out, but
    greens and all but a couple fairways were real nice. The front nine has
    3 par 4s you could drop into Medinah #3, and Medinah would get tougher.
    #s 2-6 are as good as any holes you'll ever see! Had to carry our clubs
    on a real hot day. The hills got to me, but I managed to shoot 77
    (40-37).

    Tournament Players Club at River Highlands (Cromwell, Ct.) - We mixed
    middle and back tees (mostly middle). Great golf set up - perfect
    range, lots of targets, good balls - and real nice shape. Layout is
    pretty good, with soft fairways. Shot 79.

    Ed. Note - At The Judge's request, we visited 3 places of "Exotic
    Dancing" - "Electric Blue" (Tolland, CT.), "The Lamplighter"
    (Worcester), and "The Fuzzy Grape" (Webster, Mass). The Grape was
    unbelievable!!! Send me E-Mail off line and I'll give y'all directions,
    it's easy to find.

    Final thought - played The Fox Sunday, front 9 from the middle, back 9
    from the back. Shot 80, and hit it pretty good. Number 16 and 18 from
    the tips are about as much pain as I need.

What are TIPS ?

1768.2 7,000 yards and one inch!CTHQ::OCONNORThu Aug 26 1993 09:426
    The "tips" are the very back of the teeing area. The way Jack plays
    them his back foot is at the end of the tee and if it is elevated and
    he loses his balance, he's gone! However, we are in luck, he has a lot
    of balance and he is still here.

1768.3The golf trip commeth...TEAM01::TURCOTTEOh King eh? very nice...Fri Dec 01 1995 14:1322
	Were just a couple weeks away (actually a month) from our 5th annual
	"New Year Kickoff Classic" in Orlando, were playing 4 courses..

	Ridgewood Lakes
	Palisades
	Southern Dunes
	Kissimmee Bay

	I've played them all before except Palisades, a Joe Lee design near
	Lake Minneola, supposedly lots of elevation, and Joe Lee says its
	"the most spectacular piece of golf property if Florida".

	Anyways can anyone tell me anything more about Palisades? The annual
	trip is put together by a friend of mine who started "Tee Time Travel"
	outa Jupiter Florida, the deal is 3 nights lodgeing at the Quality
	Suites and 4 days of golf for 279.00, this includes prize money and
	some other incidentals too. I've been every year and its great fun
	and the golf is great too. We played Metro West last year, thats a
	nice track, and Southern Dunes is great.

Have you ever played the Orlando Marriott World Center, or some
permutation of those words. It's at Orlando Marriott hotel
obviously. Something lik 16 water holes, i don't quite remember.

My golf trip is coming up too, in about 79 days! ... and counting.
I'll be going on a 3 wk trip to Hawaii. Actually it will be mostly
sightseeing, etc, but I will throw in a half dozen rounds of golf in
there too, of course.

1768.5Merriot was verry nice...TEAM01::TURCOTTEOh King eh? very nice...Mon Dec 04 1995 11:017
	yea I have played the Merriot, a tough track, Its been a few years,
	but when I played we were treated royally, and the course was in
	great shape. All I really remember about the course was how tough the
	approach shots were.
