My son-in-law's parents are coming to the States for a few weeks
holiday and are hoping to go up to Maine for a week of golf and
flyfishing. Neither my husband or I do either of these activities and
are therefore clueless when it comes to recommending someplace for them
to go.
Help! They are coming the end of the month and I am certain
that we need to get reservations for them as soon as possible.
Please respond to this note or give me a call at DTN 244-6613.

Sugarloaf G.C. near Rangeley (I think...) is supposed to be a fantastic
golf course, and undoubtedly has some package deals. There is good fly
fishing all around the area. I'd call the Rangeley Chamber of Commerce,
or perhaps Kingfield C. of C. If in doubt, call any Ski Shop - they can
tell you where Sugarloaf is, and may even have brochures that include
info on golf, fishing etc. at Sugarloaf. In fact, I'd start with the
Ski shops.

Just to clarify a bit. Sugarloaf is nearer Kingsfield vice Rangley.
There is an 18 hole course in Rangley as well, called Mingo Springs. The
two courses are night and day between them. Mingo is an old Links type
course, very forgiving etc. (Actually two individually owned 9 holers at
one time.) Sugarloaf is a new Robert Trent Jones Jr. Design cut through the
woods of mountain range. Sugarloaf is the best spot for the golf
purist. Rangley is for the fishing purist and some absolutely fabulous
views. Samoset is a great spot for the whole family as shopping and sites
are plentiful and the golf is very good though the fishing is very
slow... though the seafish 8^) is the best you'll ever get! (I'm biased
as I grew up in area 8^) Good golfing can be had a Sable Oaks in S.
Portland but I can't speak to the fishing though the Sebago lakes area is a
hot spot...

If they will be staying in the Portland area Sable Oaks is a must.
Off exit 7 of the turnpike, it is associated with the Marriott.
