1707.0. "Is $150 for Cobra woods a good deal?" by LAIDBK::MATTHEWS_TI () Thu May 27 1993 21:02

I saw a set of Greg Norman Cobra persimmon woods (1-3-5) at a golf shop for
$150. The clubs have never been used but are three years old. Any opinions
on if this is a good deal or not?

    --Only if you can hit 'em... $150 is cheap for even 2 persimmon woods,
    but Cobra has no "rep" as a persimmon manufacturer, hence there
    probably was no demand. Sounds like they're trying to cut their losses.
    What brand, model and flex are the shafts ?

    You can also go to a used club shop and get wooden woods in very good
    condition for a lot less than $150. Metal and graphite woods are now
    the rage at most golf shops hence wooden woods can be bought fairly
    inexpensively. Persimmon is the prefered wood used by most pros that
    hit a wood wood. Shop around some more and also consider what types of
    shaft is on the club. If its graphite the $150 is a good price but
    make sure the flex is what you need for your individual swing.

    Ping is now pushing an oversized wooden 1 and 3 featuring Zing seamless
    metal shaft.

    Anyone have any luck with this - $115 at Green Meadow pro shop.

    myself, I cannot hit metal or graphite shaft; I think I'll take the
    advice of the used wooden driver.
