Hi Pete,
I know what your problem is.
Anyone who hits a driver "on a line" time and time again, year in
year out... right where he's aiming.... has got to get bored!
Do what I do, hook one, slice one... then aim left for a slice, and
pull hook it , and aim right for the draw, and push slice it. Hell
my heart is always pumping WITH TERROR.
try it,
Walta

| Check with Norman, maybe his 7-year plan will work for you, too. Of
course, he's not telling anyone what the plan actually is, at this
time.

| Pete, I'm kind of there myself. I've hit a few balls, and I love being
around the game - helping folks, talking golf, watching my pals, etc.
But the old urge isn't there. Perhaps by later this summer, when my
annual golf vacation comes due, I'll feel different. I still look
forward to playing new courses, but the spark isn't there. Could be
work, could be having stuff to do in a new/old house (and no $$), but I
hope it changes. If not, it's provided me with most of my great
memories...

Hey Walta great idea. I'll try it tonight in my match. Even if my
partner starts to aim for my temple off the tee box I'll explain I'm
doing the right thing for the long term. I'm starting to get excited
already. I can see myself now. I know I can hit a low cutting draw
under than limb over that pond that 225yds out with my one iron from
this down hill lie. I just am not sure if I can get this thing to bite.
Wally Golf. I love it.

| I've had the same feelings from time to time. With me, if I feel that
I can't lose the stress of the situation/issue/whatever when I'm
playing, then it's not worth playing. I mean, if I should be thinking
of which club should I hit and how I should hit it, and my mind is
back on whether I'll have a job next week, then I get upset with myself
for not being able to leave it at work or at home and I think "what's
the point in being out here if I can't have fun?".
Some people can play through it, and some people need to just stay away
for a while until the stress becomes manageable. Only you can
determine what's right.
Hang in there!

I had the problem for the last 1 1/2 years, but with racquetball.
I basically took the time off. I had other things to do anyway,
play with the kids, finish my degree etc etc.
I went to a tournament to help out recently and decided I missed it.
I played in one two weeks ago, was the first time I touched my
racquet in 1+ years. God did I stink :-) Had fun though. Seems my
attitude has changed, now I just watn to have fun.
Take soem time off, see what happens.

You guys kill me. Get a grip, get a stance, get a swing....
How can you possibly fall out of love with this wondrous game ?
What would all the poorly paid golf professionals do if we all
gave it up ? Think about staff in the pro shop, the green staff,
the catering staff at your club. You owe it to them to keep at
it. How will your beloved America ever get out of the recession
if you stop spending your hard earned dosh on golf ? Golf is far
too important. What would you rather do, give pay $25 for a
round of golf lasting 3-4 hours, or pay $250 to your analyst for
half an hour while you try to figure out what is wrong ?
I'm afraid, I can't relate similar stories with my golf. The
closest I've come is with sex - (oh God if only I could make it
last 3-4 hours, and only cost $25). If you live with the same
person for a long time, you get stale. I decided to inject new
life into my life. I took up golf and have never looked back.
And as my dear friend Alan Ramsay says, " Sex. I'd rather hit a
good three iron. It stays up longer, and doesn't come back for
an argument afterwards".
Listen, its just turning to Spring here in the U.K. The first
growth is coming through on the greens. The waterproofs are
thrown in the garage. The sun is shining. I have a slight draw
on my drives and a slight fade on my irons.
Life is wonderful. Every day is a blessing. Don't worry, be
happy.

Pete,
I had the same problem and I spent most of the summer at home with the
ball and chain doing DIY .................
I know play every minute I can and most of the time when I should be
doing other things.
It was hell but I pulled through, you may not be so lucky so start
enjoying.
Nothing beats it don't try looking.

I have been feeling the same way for the last 3 seasons. However,
I started this out due to an injured shoulder...surgery, play golf
and it still hurts. Next season, back problems due to the original
shoulder/back injury. That was last year and I could'nt even walk
9 holes....This year, I've played 18, 18, and nine that't all so far...
My redemption factor now is working in a golf store and getting my swing
back every second possible at the store. I still can't get all pumped
up yet as the pain in the back, the day to day stress are really
getting to me.
Good god, I hope this goes away cause I sure miss be out there three
or four times aweek.

| Pete,
No wonder I haven't seen you around much. I started the year with
great enthusiasm, then hit a few of those funny things to the right.
All of a sudden I'm digging up the garden, cleaning the yard and NOT
golfing. I usually go through this in August or September for 3 or 4
weeks, not this early. I quess the new bedroom suite upstairs will get
some overdue attention and I'll just knock some balls around the yard
until I feel better.
JT
P.S. I haven't even been watching the pros since the Masters.

Well sounds like it's just one of things. I think what I'm going to do
for now is to beat balls for a while and see what happens. I guess the
worse thing to do is loose the swing then it will be real easy to just
say to hell with it. Taking time off from the game seems like such a
drastic step. I have already made an obligation to play in a league so
I hate to bail out. Maybe I'll go out this week and shoot a 71 nad get
all fired up. Maybe I'll go out and shoot 91, through my clubs in
the drink and take up flower arranging. I would probably be a very
bitter flower arranger. " Was that a carnation you wanted shoved up
your a** or a rose"?
Say Die

| The economy, the fear of losing jobs, lousy spring weather, courses not
open and not in shape and the rising cost of every thing, I am sure,
has someting to do with the lack of enthusiasm. I am spending
additional time just practicing and looking forward to the challenge of
transitioning the shots from the range to the course.

Yes. The cost of Golf and the time it takes to play the game are
clearly becoming a huge factor. It seems likea catch 22. Due to the
cost of purchasing and running a course the fees have got to cover the
expence. Yet due to the expence the courses are forcing some plyers to
other means of entertaining themselves. And the time it takes to play.
It's not getting any better as far as I can see. My first league match
was a three hour marathon. Well I shouldn't start bithching. There was
a time I could spend the hole day on the course to play 18 holes and
enjoyed every second of it. Oh my God!!!!!! Am I becoming one of those
ex smoker types. Ya know one of those old farts out on the course with
that I hate all other golfers look on his face and no one knows what
the game is all about but me. Oh boy.
about but me.
