1659.0. "Patriot's Day Expedition" by RANGER::GORCZYCA (PATHWORKS/NetWare Product Manager) Mon Mar 22 1993 12:59

YAVQ -

I'm trying to figure out if I can drive far enough south from Boston, in about
8-12 hours, around April 16th, to find some reasonable weather and conditions
to plan some golf.

Best as I can figure, I might be able to make to to Virginia Beach in about
12+ hours. So, I guess my questions are:

	a) Is it reasonable to expect 60-70 deg./F days in the Virginia Beach
	   area around April 16-18th?

	b) Is there a "Mecca" in that area for golf (somewhere where you can
find a good variety of courses open to the public that cost less
than one's "first born" to play...sort of like Myrtle-Beach-north)?

	c) Do I really need to drive that far south, or is Washington far
	   enough south?

	d) If you suggest a "location", could you suggest some courses in the
area...and how I might find them (literally...where to find a golf
course "map" for Virginia, for example...hmmm suppose I could call
if I had the name of a course and the town it was in)?

I know this is asking a lot, but, what the heck...I know you folks are good!

Thanks,
John

Not an answer to your question, but the SNH golf league is suppose
to start the week after that (22nd) so I hope you can find it
    around here!

John,

I've been to Myrtle Beach in March and had pretty good weather although the
early tee times were sometimes low 30's.

Also, most Cape Cod courses should be open... but, if you're serious about
60-70 temps, you'll have to pray to the golf gods.

Last year my wife and I drove down to Virginia Beach in early April
to play some golf. If we were to do it again, we'd go further south -
maybe Myrtle Beach or even Florida. The courses we played were in a
condition similar to what you'd expect in spring in New England -
some winter kill, brown grass, mud, etc. The weather was also "flakey"-
one day it even snowed (well ok, for about 15 minutes..). We also had
rain, and 2 days of sun and mid-50's temps.

real quick. I saw an article which talked about the Maryland shore
trying to become a Myrtle beach replacement for N.E.,N.Y.,N.J etc
golfers who cannot get that far easily.

I will try to find it but you could try (from a map) contacting by
phone some of the chambers of commerce - try ocean city maryland - for
    information
