1649.0. "Fuzzy in shades?" by CHRLIE::HUSTON () Mon Mar 15 1993 08:42

    What's wrong with Fuzzy Zoeller's eyes??

    I haven't read/watched much about golf lately (to depressing when
    there are several feet of snow in your yard). I watched yesterday
    and Fuzzy was wearing sunglasses. Johnny Miller made a comment about
    his $400 glasses. I also recall some type of "lose and your done"
    tourney (12 of them play together, one falls out on each hole, last
    one left wins). Fuzzy played and mentioned that he can't take the
    glasses off.

    Does he have a problem?? or does he just like wearing glasses?

    Could it be the dreaded JMS (Jim McMahon Syndrone). It must have struck
    Robt Gamez as well. He looks to goofy wearing those cycling glasses.

1649.2Think Fuzzy's reason is medicalCHRLIE::HUSTONMon Mar 15 1993 12:1910

    I got the impression Fuzzy's reason was medical, hence the note.

    Gamez I think has a contract with Oakley. Why? Did you notice he
    switched glasses during the playoff. He went from sun glasses to a
    orange tint that will help with the low light. The commentators even
    made comments about it getting to dark for the glasses.

    Did Gamez switch glasses, or have photochromatic lenses? A contract
    with Oakley might have prevented him from taking them off. Maybe it was
    the combination of sunglasses and setting sun which caused him to hit
    those two fat approach shots during the playoff. I've heard that some
    volleyball players are sponsored by sunglass companies and wear their
    glasses during interviews, but not during a game, and instead wear an
    armband with the company's name.

    I don't know why more pros don't wear some sort of eye protection.
    They're out in the sun for long amounts of time, and prolonged exposure
    to UV rays has been linked to eye problems.
1649.4Even cricket is affected.WOTVAX::MORRISONTue Mar 16 1993 07:3018
Hi,

(The clocks go back in two weeks time, and we'll soon be playing
golf again over here.)

Several professional cricketers here in the U.K. are wearing
Oakley sunglasses during full test matches. It may well do their
eyes a lot of good, but they also get an awful lot of money to
wear them during a game.

I don't have Oakley's, but I have played a few rounds in my
Varuanet ski glasses. They certainly give me a far sharper view
of the course. But its not the done thing, playing golf in
shades. Or am I just old fashioned ?

1649.5UV Protection ??CGOOA::DURNINJim - Unum Cum Virtuitous Multorum Thu Mar 18 1993 15:0120
    Hi,

    I think Gamez switched glass or lenses as well. I noticed on the
    18th (second playoff hole) that the lenses were yellow and you could
    see his eyes which you couldn't do before.

    I know of others who were the yellow lenses when light is dim or during
    white out ski conditions.

    Anyone have any further info on UV light and your eyes. I currently
    wear Photo-chromatic lenses that change color, but I don't believe the
    cut out UV radiation.

    Are there glasses available to do this and how much are they approx.

    Thanks in Advance,

    Jim

    I wear prescription glasses with Photo-Gray Extra lenses. They claim
    to filter out 98% of UV radiation.
