1634.0. "The Golf Card" by STAR::DANIELE () Thu Feb 18 1993 08:47

I've just received an application for "The Golf Card". The company is in
Salt Lake City.

You pay $75 for single membership or $120 for double membership, and THEN
receive a list of 2100 courses in the US that are affiliated.

At affiliated courses, you pay for an electric cart, but not for greens fees.
You may play twice a year at any of the courses.

This sounds like a pretty good deal to me, especially the double membership.
(Two people split a cart and off you go...) Also, they claim that at any time
during the year, you may cancel and your membership fee will be refunded,
regardless of how many rounds you've played. (!)

I was wondering if anyone among the readership has had any experience with this?

Thanks,
Mike

(PS, I searched for "card" and found a note on "the green card", but I think
this is a different package.)

If the golf card is the Credit card with some playing priveleges, like
a frequent golfer card, no I have not tried it. If the golf card is
the discount golf card sold by charities then yes I have one and it is
very good, as long as the restrictions for use (time of play, cart fees
    etc.) don't upset you.

This seemed too good to be true, and it is.

I was able to get the list of affiliated courses in NH and MA. Of the
17 NH courses I was able to get information about, 10 are 9 holes, and none
are private.

MA faired slightly better, having several private 18 hole courses listed.
Most of them are in the general Worcester area.

I'm gonna pass. If any of you get invited to join, I recommend you find out
first where you'll be able to play.
